I love watching you break it down for learners! You always share important information and helpful solutions to real problems. People sometimes don’t think of it as ENGINEERING. But building a structurally sound, lasting, adhered nail IS engineering. It’s physics, math, chemistry, environmental elements, budget, and architecture. I mean yeah it’s not the Golden Gate Bridge lol, but it’s still a small scale engineering project. The enhanced nail is a bridge from cuticle to tip.

I was having so many issues with polygel myself too! Worth note: for me, I bought an Amazon kit that didn’t come with base coat or primer, and didn’t include it in their instructions, but it made ALL the difference for me! I think their polygel just didn’t have the best adherence tbh. But if I do an acid free primer and base gel first? Then I’ve got no problem! Stays on just fine. If anybody else is using cheap polygel, try out a full prep with dehydrator, acid free primer, and base gel, and see if it helps!

The 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rule is great! I heard it from you or someone else before I started doing my own. If I do good prep I can handle that length pretty well. I have a few nails on my dominant hand that are touchy. If I get a lift on them I usually end up with a greenie too. Then it’s everything off and regular nail polish until it’s all grown out! I tend to have super weak, thin, papery nails to start so I’ve really enjoyed wearing enhancements.

My nails are very similar to hers….short nail bed, very flat and thin natural nails. I keep mine short but MY biggest problem is I have very VERY deep sidewalls so it’s easy to flood those areas and that leads to too much filing to thin out and then my nails break. Suzie, great tutorial and encouragement. It is so good that you DO the mani steps for visual learners. One thing I would recommend to Makayla to do is to LOOK AT your examples and compare, as you did in the tutorial; she may be “doing” all the steps, but looking at the photos indicate that there is definitely still cuticle present. We all have to examine the nail to make sure we get it all. Good luck Makayla!!!! Suzie, show us her successes if she sends photos! OR post them here, Makayla!!

Some tips that worked for me that wasn't mentioned: 1) Whenever i do my nails with polygel i make sure i haven't showered or washed dishes for that day to ensure my nails are really dry. I have dry hands so i don't have an issue with sweaty hands. 2) don't flood the cuticles! I'd rather have a huge gap rather than try to get really close to the cuticle. 3) i only do overlay on top of natural nail. As it grows out I'll do fills. 🤷Might be overkill but my nails stay on until they grow out.

Hi Suzie! Thank you so much for this video, it came at the perfect time 😍 I've been struggling with my gel polish lifting at the free edge for a while now and I got really frustrated. Extra tip: a nail tech friend just recommended to try and do each nail individually (if like me you tend to do multiple at once, since it's a simple overlay on my natural nails). The reason is that some gels "retract" and so even if you cap the edge, by the time you cure it, it has moved away.

Hi! I was wondering what you know about nail allergies. I recently started doing my nails at home and I noticed that a few hours after I finished them, the cuticle started to become itchy and many tiny bumps started to form on it and also under my nails. It took a couple of weeks for this to heal, and my nails were lifting from the nailbed in the places where the bumps appeared. As the nails grew, everything healed, so there was no permanent damage. Could this allergy be corellated with low quality products? Or maybe I did not cure them enough? I'm really curious about this

These tips have really helped me, especially not washing my hands after doing cuticle care and buffing the nail plate. Now I just stick the brush bit onto my efile and use that to get the dust completely off, which satisfies my borderline ocd tendencies😅 One other thing that's helped my nails stay on is using a rubber base! I use the apres extend gel and put my hybrid gel right on top of that and haven't had a nail pop off since!

Do you have a similar video for biab nails, im using the mylee version and yes I do bite, and the sides will lift and then I can easily peel the whole thing off. So I know it's not only because I bite them, otherwise when I bite the product wouldn't come off in one go and it would hurt alot. I know it's a nasty habit and I usual have acyclic but they damage my nails and are expensive x

I guess so, but I have never really experienced that. And I’ve been around a long time and used a lot of old crap. I think my nails are popping off because my nail beds are so thin. Also because they're so thin that even just after a week the nail underneath is getting black because its holding onto water much more than a nail with all the layers. Possibility? I think yes. Edit; I was right. Just 2 minutes in and my nail is comprised as the same for the person in the photos.

Thank you. I've been a nail biter for 40 years and trying to get rid of this bad habit. Having beautiful fake nails help but there is a lot to learn.

The apex is why I don't do gel nails. I don't like how it looks. With regular nail polish on top of your long nails you don't have to do that for it to not pop off lol

How kind of you! You're always so extremely helpful, that's why you're one of my top 3 go-to's for when it comes to nails. All this time, and all these videos I see, never hearing of the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 rule! It definitely makes sense, and I'm super thankful this video came out because I'm going to be doing my brother's girlfriend's nails. Her nail beds are shorter than one's I'm used to working on, so this information was very much needed. Thank you so so much for the time you put into teaching us! So very grateful for you! 😇💕
