I think the side moral of this story was that his lie was unnecessary and in fact, it probably made him sound LESS interesting to her than if he'd just told the truth. Home security solutions sound's a lot more useful to most people than "I sell tractors" because tractors are a very niche market that few will ever need, only farmers, big landowners etc. If I was gonna lie to try and impress a lady like that and I had a choice between telling her I sell tractors or telling her I sell home security solutions, I would choose the latter. Many ladies, as well as people in general, will be especially interested in making their home more secure, so what better guy to have around than one that can advise them on the best security products? It's a no brainer!
