I just found your exercises and I can't believe the relief I felt immediately--As a former gymnast whose favorite event was uneven bars, I was shocked when suddenly my left thumb hurt, went into spasm, and seems to be sore and painful over a couple of days.I had not warmed up my hands and wrists! I like to do my own work, so it's exercises for me. I wonder if these braces will be okay to wear when using light weights.

This surgery I believe very hurtful for a long time had surgery September 7,2021 still hurting every day since surgery I’ll never due it again.

I used to feel the same way. I had my trapeziectomy in April of 2012 on my left hand when I was 49. I complained for a long time that it didn't work and would never have it done to my right hand, even if it got painful. The last couple of years have been very painful on my right hand, which has made realize how much BETTER my left hand is now that it has been several years. Give it some time; it will improve.

Asking as an OT (not a CHT) is this a nice orthosis for a lady who has hypermobility in CMC joint but still wants to maintain function and improve opposition during ADLs?

It may not be enough for hypermobility but it could work for simple ADL's. However, I don't usually see a lot of hypermobility at the CMC, jt it's usually more at the MP. You may be able to add a small piece of thermoplastic material to prevent dorsal/radial translation. That is usually the direction of instability.

@@VirtualHandCare THANK YOU so much for your quick reply and guidance! you are right! 🙈 I viewed a picture of her holding a water bottle and I noticed it’s her MP joint like you said. She had a hard time with stability, opposition when holding water bottle and electrical toothbrush. I’m in HH and not a CHT and don’t have access to one who does house calls for my homebound lady. I don’t have access to thermomaterial. Do you have an off the shelf orthosis that you like instead with thermoplastic ? Thank you so much again for your help!

When should you actually wear this brace? Only with pain or is it something that can be worn while you sleep?

Typically it is only with activities that cause the pain. That way the thumb is supported and therefore less painful.

No, this brace is not for trigger thumb. It's for arthritis.

I fractured my wrist in October and wore a too tight cast for 5 weeks. I had to have the Dr. remove the cast because my fingers had turned purple. I had some arthritis in my thumb and I think because the cast was so tight it moved my thumb towards my palm and yes I'm now unable to stretch my thumb out and I lost some of that webbing you talked about. Would this cast help to move my thumb over to it's proper position?

Deborah- I am sorry to hear about your tight cast! I like this soft brace because it can gently stretch the web space without being too forceful. Make sure you do gentle exercises too. I have a video for gentle thumb exercises as well.

​@Dawn Hopkins I'm so sorry. That's too much arthritis for any person to deal with.,I only have Osteoarthritis but my daughter has Rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. It's all so painful. I hope something helps you

Wow…. I ordered the Cool Comfort brace, and it is a joke. Does not mobilize or restrict the CMC joint in any way. This isn't a splint and it doesn't do anything. $30 dollar rip-off… Do NOT buy it. Rite-Aid or Ace splints much better. 😡

The Comfort cool is not ment to immobilize the CMC joint if that is what you are looking for. It's a soft brace and there is no hard bar as shown in the video. With CMC arthritis it's not typically recommended to immobilize or it gets stiff and sore. I've used this brace for 20 years.

@@GregHalvorson It provides support and compression directly over the CMC joint and through the thumb web space with the strap. This prevents common joint shifting or 'collapsing' when you pinch. It is not meant to restrict. Without a brace you could be causing that 'collapsing' which leads to more load on the CMC joint. Lots more to it than that though!
