I watched the video and kept having to pause. When I went to comment it wouldn't let me! I guess you took it down at the same time!😂😀 It definitely made more sense the 2nd time around! I hope you gave Mike a well deserved off camera smack for that comment! Men!😂😀 Great video! I like how you kept it real. This is what farming is really like sometimes, especially when trying anything new! Take care, guys! Always a pleasure!😀

How funny that the cow forgot the sound of that milking machine so quickly, you haven't had her that long. Is you and she become more comfortable with using the machine things will go smoother and smoother every day. Great video by the way!

Really thought that the cow had you all whipped. Everyone's asleep here at my house but when you brought out the lawnmower, I could not help but laugh out loud. Well I'm in the doghouse now for waking everyone here, but you finally had success. Congratulations. It would be better if you added a neck lock, just for your own safety.

Mike you might want to add a catch to the head gate on your milking stall. It keeps her from backing out and it is a real simple deal. Al at "Lumna Acres" has made a nice and easy one. Also if she doesn't stand they also make a deal called "cow can't kick" that seems to work very well. Been a long time since I milked but a stanchion with a catch is just about a necessity. Good luck.

Hunnys forgive me if I am over stepping, 🙏 but it would be in my mind an unforgivable thing to say nothing. You need to get that cord off your baby's neck, God bless you guys, you're beautiful parents. I don't ever want to wake up to you posting a video explaining that your baby climbed up onto something, lost his footing, and the cord got caught on something on the way down and hung him. And you found him too late. This sort of thing happens too often, even to beautiful families like yours. God bless and I love you guys dearly ❤️

One thing....please please please wear real shoes or boots when working with the cow. Ask me how I know.....Yeah....sandles....cow stepped on my foot, took toenails off. Could be much worse if it were on top of the foot to break bones.
@MikeTheFitFarmer6 ай бұрын
I usually do wear boots but for whatever reason that day I wore sandals.
@birgitelisabeth96616 ай бұрын
If a cow steps on your foot only a steel toe could save your toes. Sorry this happened to you but if all you lost was your toenails you were actually lucky.

Congrats on the first time with the milk machine that worked! Prey animals of all sizes can be very skittish in new environments, so it's good that y'all didn't just try to force it on her. (That could have been disasterous!) I enjoy seeing y'all try this gentle approach that also helps you bond with your animals this way. The biggest plus to this isn't just that your animals are calmer and more likely to behave the way you want them to in these situations, but also your children see you modeling this behavior so they'll know the right way to do things when they run into a "roadblock" in their lives, too. Thank you for sharing!

@The Fit Farmer. Maybe try just a simple noise block. 4x8 plywood with slit cut wide enough to lay the hose about half way down the plywood. Have machine on opposite side of your cow. Out of site out of mind and with noise on other side of the plywood it would be as loud or as easily known where it was coming from. Just a suggestion but in my mind it seems it would help

Is it possible for you and Lacy both do a video on where you got the cow from but do a more in depth investigation of how his machine hooked up from to point to point were the cow is hooked up. But, I was thinking about putting a sound proofing box around the machine just like putting one on an air compressor to decrease the noise.

Colloidal silver might be good to use in cleaning the milk machine. I use it in my nebulizer and have never had any mold or bacteria in the hoses

Just a heads up, if you put the iodine on after you’re done milking you won’t end up getting it in your milk but the tiits still needs to be cleaned before milking.

Can you put a box or something over the motor with enough ventilation that it will work, but not be as loud?
@woodmanhugh6 ай бұрын
Great video you guys. Be careful when you run a really long small gauge extension cord to a piece of equipment that has bigger motor than the extension cord is rated for. You can damage the equipment or possibly start a fire by overheating the extension cord. There might be something about that in the instructions . Blessing to you and your family.

Would it help to make an open wooden box with sound foam on the inside to cover the motor on the milk machine to drown the noise level? Sort of like a mini open garage.

When i had goats, they were pygmy, they had never been milked and i had never hand milked until i tried on them. Well they had such small short nipples that it was a 2 finger job. I bought a portable milking machine and had to train them all to the stand and noisy milking machine. I put special feed, like an all stock something sweet and the head stock wouldn't work on some of mine because their horns were to big or wide or their heads. So i had collars on all and used a lead to tie them to the stand. If they kicked at me or the inflations, i gave them a shove on the hip or shoulder, don't know if that will work on a cow. If they gave me any trouble they didn't get a treat when they were cleaned up to leave. Soon they all wanted to come milk and didn't give me trouble. I also would leave the kids on them and let the baby does come when mom milked. Those girl's came to milking without any problems when they had their babies. I agree lock her head in. Also see if you can get a longer hose so you can get that noise maker as far away from her as possible. I had a long hose so i could set it back. Last i watched you were still handmilking with it running so she could get used to it.

@ohiosbestpeach7705 ай бұрын
Perhaps that milk machine manufacturer could figure out how to dampen the sound that the machine is making. To me, it resembles the sound of a rattle snake pit. The pump that my farmer uses (and I use when I help her milk the cows) is smaller and it’s quiet.

Im concerned about your cows health when they're so many flies swarming around her. It would be a good idea to purchase some fly spray or create your own salve that keeps the bugs off of May. Are yall still drinking goat milk too? What's the difference?

It depends on the type of goat. A Nigerian dwarf has very creamy milk and tastes very much like cows milk. While lamacha has very thin skim milk type milk but they make a lot more milk.

Cows are creatures of habit. If you will establish a routine and do it that way every time, milking will go more smoothly. Cows don't like full wavy clothing. I had a cow consider going after me when i had a skirt on. You need a head lock. Every failure is teaching your cow how to get the best of you.
