SUPERMAN AND HIS SIDEKICK TO THE RESCUE AGAIN (i know superman dosnt have a sidekick) but i couldnt think of anything else that would fit. Great work Izzy and Drew you really are both great people offering to help those that have suffered from those bad people who just take as much money as they can moving on to the next victim leaving behind a great mess to fix.

Hi Issy, we've just had builders try a repointing job on the house. Sadly they turned out to be cowboys. My query now is solely focused on what is the right mortar to mix, to finish the area not currently worked on at the back. Query, type of mortar and strength for property described below. I think an N-type (1 in 5, or 1 in 6 ratio). What ratio of sharp to building sand should be used on the property below please? For a period engineering brick house thats 90 years old. The mortar appears to be a light cream/ beige in colour with few small 2-6mm pebbles and white flect inclusions. As its an early 1930's property I'm assuming the white inclusions are hydrated lime or lime chippings, or chalk?. It fizzed when we put a bit in distilled vinegar, but not excessively. The mortar is rock hard and not disintegrating but has recessed (possibly due to weather or bad past inconsistent rake out. It has a few defects of brick adhesion loss and holes from old nails. I understand the colour is from the sand type used. So a portland cement, with hydrated lime or lime chippings(?). Light coloured sand, not red building sand. Based in Yorkshire so a bit far for you for such a little job to finish I assume. Not sure what to do about the front of the house as it was minimally raked out (inconsistently). They quickly covered it up with a shallow 4:1 grey cement. It's truly awful, but think it's best to tackle that next Spring due to seasonal weather.
@IzzytheBricky5 сағат бұрын
Hiya mate, alot to unpack there. Would you like to send me a few pictures over via email, and I can figure out a little more from that? Izzythebricky@hotmail.com If it's not too far. We can always have a look for you, spring time? Your correct having a weaker mix though, and just ant sharp sand will do. Send though some pictures on email or Instagram and we can have a chat/ give you some guidance
