From my experiences with people having panic attacks - 1. If theyre squeezing their legs, scratching or pinching themselves, give them something to squeeze, like tissues or a plush toy. 2. If theres something worsening the attack, remove it, or them from your location. Example: someone yelling 3. Speak to them calmly, but firmly, don't speak too loudly. Tell them to look at you. 4. Start giving them instructions on breathing - say always breathe in, breathe out, say it slowly and make sure that theyre following. 5. Meanwhile youre doing all the previous and following steps, reassure them theyre safe, everything is okay, youre with them. 6. Now, physical contact may help, or cause damage. you may feel like hugging them but this might shock them - dont. Ask if they want your hand, place it so they see it but its not too close. If they take it, you may held it firmly, maybe stroke the back of their hand, but dont do anything without consent - best way to know is giving them the choice to touch you. 7. Give them water, only a bit and listen to them if they need to talk. Make sure theyre not unsupervised till calm, but being with too many people will overwhelm them. Thats my tips, and dont forget to help them seek a professional.

To everyone talking about the 911 thing, it's definitely not something you need to do _every_ time a panic attack comes on, BUT if the person has never had an attack before or you suspect it might be something else instead, that's when you should call an ambulance to make sure. Once they've had an assessment done and have been given the all clear physical health wise, you do not need to call an ambulance if a panic attack happens in the future.

Tell them to follow your breaths, breathe in and out slowly. Let them know you aren’t going anywhere and that you’re going to stay right beside them. Ya... that was such stupid advice! The very first thing you do is take them into a comfortable area. Outside works best for me, but not if its really hot. In that case just in an empty, quiet room. For me personally, I NEED to feel closed in. That helps me relax more than anything. I also need to feel cold when I'm having a panic attack. Being anxious makes me really hot, which makes me more anxious. Lowering the temperature helps a LOT. I think the most important thing is to talk to the person when they're not anxious and have them tell you what they need. 9 times outta 10, NO ONE wants an ambulance!

I had a panic attack at work 5 months ago, in a nursery. I remember I’d made a suggestion to take the children out and the supervisor started to have a go at me because I didn’t do enough (as an assistant who did exactly what I was told at every moment). even though it was 5 months ago I remember the whole thing so well. I was firstly angry that I was being talked to like this especially after I reexplained my intentions which was just turned away with rude remarks. This anger quickly turned to me crying and then I went into a panic attack and I just couldn’t stop. When the attack started the first thing said to me was “you need to stop crying, you are scaring the children” (they were there but they thought it was funny which didn’t phase me at all in the current state, definitely not scared) and didn’t offer any support whatsoever. I was crying and physically couldn’t breathe let alone talk. It wasn’t until another staff member came through and offered me a glass of water and took me to a separate room. It took me a full 10 minutes to stop hyperventilating and for my heart to calm down, I just physically couldn’t get it to stop. When the panic attack finished I just felt really low and couldn’t stop crying. I was sent out to the garden (after the whole situation about me suggesting todo this in the first place) and I kept being told to stop. I didn’t return after that day. I just remember how scared I felt, I couldn’t control my heart, my breathing, I couldn’t stop crying. I remember feeling like I’d reached rock bottom after the panic attack also. But I can’t remember anything that happened after that, until id left to call my dad. That feeling still hasn’t left me today and I’m scared that it will happen again

Ok, calling 911 every time someone has a panic attack is a waste of time! Especially if you KNOW that person has a panic disorder! Plus, that can cause even more stress for the panicked person. Instead, just sit there with them. Reassure them. Breathe with them. Talk to them. If symptoms do not improve within, I'd say about a half-hour THEN it'd probably be a good idea to call 911. Do NOT call before you have made some effort to try to calm to the victim first. I have clinically diagnosed panic disorder and it would make me panic more if I knew I was gonna be surrounded by strange people with medical equipment.

Though everyone is different, I find that making the person laugh by changing the subject is one of the best ways to handle it. I’ve done this when helping many people and it has always worked. As someone as well experiencing Panik attacks from time to time as knowing people who have them even more often, I have to say THIS WON'T ALWAYS WORK. In every case I've experienced so far it wouldn't have worked at all probably, depending on the trigger, the fierceness and some other points. So for example, often people might Dissociate, what means not being able to sense anything anymore, or they just might not be able to react anymore. In this case, talking to them won't have any use. Many people hate to be touched while experiencing a panic attack too. So, here is what you SHOULD DO, in case this video's advice isn't working: 1) The earlier react, the better. So as soon as you see the symptoms of a panic attac and as long as the other person is still able to react, do exercises for Mindfulness with them. For example let them tell you five things they hear, four they see, three they feel, two they smell and one they taste. 2.) If they don't react anymore, you need to find something that pulls them out of it. It's hard to find that without being prepared. If you know someone tends to have panic attacks, carry amoniak with you. It's strong scent feels like a lightning in the nose and helps most people out of it. Once they can react again, go on with mindfulness. 3.) Get them out of the stressing situation and/ or distract them with talking about a topic they like for example. 3.) Ask the person what to do in such a case when they're calm enough again. Ask them for their triggers and the early sings of tension, so you are prepared next time. How to help releaseing stress before/ after a panic attac: -Many people tend to teeter with ther legs or scratch their arms/ hands. There it often helps to give them something in their hand (( therapy)putty, a coolpack, some part of cloth, ...) -Distraction - exercises for mindfulness (! If the person experienced something traumatic, make sure it's ALWAYS a exercise concentrate on the outside world, nothing where they have to close their eyes and/ or concentrate on the inside) I hope this added some helpful information to the video. And for everyone struggling out there: YOU CAN AND YOU WILL DO IT, I KNOW IT. You're a strong person, you won't fail in this fight. I love you

@@alittlebean.1284 It might... Try to ask slowly probably instead of going straight forward, and in a situation you're sure they're not stressed. Also, try not to mention the cause of a panic attack. Like, start with "Hey, I've seen you had a panic attack..." (for example), then look how they react. Ask in like... Pieces, so that you can stop the conversation any time. Also, try to look out for the "common" sings throughout the whole conversation, and know at least some probably working ways to help if you should trigger them still. It's different from person to person how they react, but this should be the safest way whatsoever... I hope I could help you

The best thing is to tell them long in advance that the body sends in certain chemicals throughout their body which causes this , keep telling them that the fear is the result of the chemicals not reality. Them knowing that going into the attack will help them . When it happens they think that the fear is real , the best thing to do is hold them and keep telling them that everything is ok and they are safe and the fear is just chemically induced panic attack. Keep reaping that it is not real , it is not real , it will go away soon .

So, basically do NOT follow this video! NEVER call 911 first! Also, do NOT ask them to tell you what's going on. If they bring it up, fine, listen. If not, bringing it up might make the panic worse. Encouraging deep breathing is really the only good advice this video gives. Stay with them. ASK them if it's okay to touch them if so, hold their hand or rub their back. If not, just keep calmly talking to them. Reassure them. If you are calm, they will be in a minute. The most important thing is to stay with them and let them know they'll be okay. Encourage them to breathe slowly. It's very important that they are breathing in through their nose into their stomach. For people with anxiety, they are chronic chest breathers, which makes the panic worse. It helps a lot to breathe with them, movements they can follow. Moving your arms up and down with each breath or having them lay on you and feeling your breaths. Just keep encouraging deep, slow nasal, diaphragmatic breathing.

Someone who has panic attacks here! Most panic attacks can be treated without calling 911, if the person can communicate with you. We can tell when we're panicking, and will know if something is different or wrong. It's hard for us to hold still sometimes, so if getting someone to sit doesn't work just give them positive encouragement and talk with them when they come to you. Sometimes people having panic attacks need a moment to themselves, and want to talk when they're ready to bring themselves down from the panic. Physical sensations are also really helpful, any sort of rubbing, petting or otherwise light and calming physical sensations can be a big help. If someone needs to leave for a moment, don't chase them! It will most likely make them feel worse. Panic attacks can last upwards of a couple hours, but usually only take 20-30 minutes. And something important to remember is to not say "Calm down" or "Relax", we can't help it and are trying! Panic attacks are almost an out of body experience, it feels like you're stuck inside someone freaking out and can't stop, even though you can still rationally think, you might not rationally act. It literally feels like you lose control of your body and actions sometimes, but we will try to cooperate! I hope this helps someone!

My panic attacks are back, and it just keeps getting worst, I don’t wanna tell my parents about it cause they always blame my phone about it, so I always try to find a way to calm it down by playing some stress/anxiety relieving games One time, when I had my first panic attack, my heart rate increased to 112 so I was rushed to the hospital, my doctor told me that it was because of anxiety, but my mom changed the subject to my phone (which gives me more comfort) thats all

One of my closest friends had a panic attack today during lunch and of course I was sitting with my other group of friends and didn't notice until I saw all of them standing up and decided to check out what was happening. He got taken to a side room off of our library where we eat and was full on sobbing/hyperventilating. That was so fricken scary because I've never seen someone have a panic attack before and I don't do well in situations like that: The loud sounds of like 200 other kids, my other friends stressed and crying, us not being able to see him, its overwhelming. I literally had to support him to help him walk to his other class because he could barely walk. That was so scary

A few days ago, I had a panic attack at lunch around my friends. But I couldn’t tell them what was wrong. I tried to talk, but I simply couldn’t. Eventually when I was able to talk J said I was feeling terrible all day and tried to go to the guidance counselor, but I couldn’t becuase she wasn’t there, and so one of my friends helped me get there, but when we got there and up to the reception desk, I couldn’t speak again. I had to point like a child and my friend told the receptionist something was wrong (he didn’t know it was a panic attack, and neither did I) I was able to them them which counselor I use. Luckily the counselor was effective, but ai can’t stop thinking about what happened. It really scared my friends. I told them it was a panic attack after and I was okay, and they were supportive, but I still feel bad that it happened. I went to sit with them knowing that I was not feeling okay, I should have walked to the counselors immediately

*calling an ambulance first thing every single time a person with frequent panic attacks is having one seems like an overkill, adds to the stress, and breaks the bank (for those in countries that charge for an ambulance/medical care). Be mindful of his please.*

My panic attacks are like I'm going crazy and feel like my brain is detached from reality. Tingling and numb like I'm outside my body and in a movie. My heart pounding and I shake and sweat. I get it now driving on the freeway especially if I have to cross a bridge. I can not cross the Bay Bridge from the East Bay to San Francisco... The most horrible, dreadful feeling..😢

absolutely do NOT call 911 as your go-to step one for a panic attack. is this a video for rich people?!? what if the dispatcher sends the cops too? terrible advice. if there is a particular reason why their symptoms are concerning, always ask the person first. talking and listening to the person having the panic attack should always be the first thing you do. i called 911 for only one out of the countless panic attacks i've experienced in my life because i had just started taking a new medication a few days earlier, my heart was beating extremely fast which is not one of my usual symptoms, and it was 4 in the morning and i was alone. this is the kind of situation where you might consider it - different symptoms than usual, a reason to believe it might be something more serious. but not for any old panic attack. the person will not want to be your friend anymore if you put them through that for no reason.

Just say.. You are brave enough to face this ..this attack and anxiety problem born from you, you aren't born from it ..so you are brave enough to handle it and you'll definitely beat it one day! But until that time stay calm hai, embrace yourself and don't worry, I am always with you, if you have anything on your mind you can share it to me. 🌸🌸

I'm having panic attacks from the last 4 months, I always feel like I'm going crazy and when I touch something it feels so weird and my feet also it's like I'm afraid of sensation, seriously, I've searched a lot about this, i also consult doctor and told them about panic attack but they always says what is panic attack , my dad help me when i was having one and when i go to outside for a walk people voice keep running in my head so loud and i can't focus in conversation but I always try to accept that I'm having a panic attack and its temporary so don't worry, it's a situation where you can fight or flight , when i have them i always lay down in bef for some times and stay calm and then watches something that makes me feel good like anime 😅. Just try to distract yourself and everything will be fine. 😊

Sometimes all you need is a glass of water, some deep breaths and a cool quiet environment (say your car, bathroom, or basement, if you can get there), work's for me everytime. Twice before I went to the ER and the bill's were staggering, only to find out, "oh, it's just a panick attack" (said by the triage nurse, as I rolled in "dying"). No thank's
@loganchavez69962 жыл бұрын
Honestly with all the panic attacks I've had, the police and ambulance would've made it 100x worse for me. But at the same time it would depend on how bad it is, some of the time I have trouble breathing from my panic attacks, and I usually have so bad of a panic attack I think I start becoming a little delusional. Kinda sad to say but if you have panic attacks please get them taken care of immediately, you don't need other health problems in the future due to stress, relax, remember you are not inferior, you're the only you so be the best one you can be, remember when having a panic attack that's it's just in your head, and don't be like me, tell someone you trust that you're having one because I try to make it the least obvious I can I'm having a panic attack, better safe than sorry😌.

I get panic attacks. I usually think I'm dying. I don't like big crowds so most people that witness my embarrassing episodes know what they are. When I was younger I would go through stages. 1.) Impending doom 2.) Think I'm having a heart attack 3.) Beg to be taken to the hospital 4.) Hate my friends and/or family for letting me die (they knew what was going on) 5.) Except death and wait to succumb (which could be anywhere from 20 minutes to 5 hours 6.) Tell the people around me to tell people how much i love them. I have since gotten better at recognizing them, but I still expect one or two episodes a year. I had a very embarrassing one recently at my bf freinds house that came out of nowhere (as they typically do) and he didn't know what to do. I told him when i get like that all you can really do is tell me that I'm okay and that I'm not going to die. Keep saying it until I believe it. People don't understand how scary panic attacks are. The brain is so powerful sometimes I even think a panic attack could kill me because I'm so afraid. What people don't understand is that I'm 99.9% sure it's a panic attack. It's the 0.01% that it might actually be something else.
