I'm glad I came across this video series. I'll be getting my motor rebuilt next year, I'm leaning towards the Hartech process with Slakker, and this series has been great to help me understand all the work that will go into it.

You pointed to the valve guide and said it was a valve seat. Sorry for picking you up on that Aron.. regards Bob Rose cosworth Northampton uk

Love what your do mate. I've been following you since the start. And I think your doing fantastic mate. I'm was an engine builder for cosworth and in F1 for ten years. Then had a chance for a few year went back to aviation but then in 2019 went back to cosworth and was building g the engine for Aston Martin valkyrie. Then the Gordon Murray T50 supercar engine. So sorry if I pick on any thing. No disrespect intended. Keep up the great work. Kind regards Bob Rose Northampton UK 🇬🇧

Havn't done my Porsche heads yet, but back when I did other engines I put a short piece of 1/4" rod in a drill, then put a 4" or so piece of hose over it and then slid the other end of the hose over the part of the valve stem that was sticking out. Left enough room you can move the valve off the seat. I used to spin it until the gray line of paste around the valve became continuous.

+Eggbert Farnsworth yes I saw a lot of people using that method when researching and 90% of the comments were not to ever do that, but 🤷‍♂️

I wondered about that. It was back around 1974 when I "invented" that method. Now with the internet, I realize I wasn't the first. LOL. Apparently it doesn't pay to overdo it as there is supposed to be an interference angle of about 1 degree between the valve face and seat. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, but carefully, especially in your case where the suction cups just won't hold. I will admit an automotive machinist once laughed at people who keep the valves organized to maintain their original location in the head as well as lapping them as he claimed if valves and heads are machined, there shouldn't be any need for lapping. One guys' opinion. Not sure if it's true.

Valve comes through the guide not seat. The seat is what you lap the Valve to.
