Henk learned how to use distortion on his voice especially for this song that he sang for Floor. Distortion is a big no-no in the opera world. Another great performance is Emma Heesters singing Floor's song "Strong" for her. Brought tears to everyone's eyes, including mine. Henk only practiced distortion two times before this show. He did it for Floor. Floor adores Henk from age 12 or something. She is his biggest fan. After Beste Zangers Henk was also a fan of Floor. That is why they now perform together sometimes.

This is being performed for Floor, chosen not because of Simon and Garfunkel but because metal band, Disturbed, covered the song. Disturbed's singer, David Draiman, known for his harsh vocals (though he's a trained singer, having been a cantor in his Jewish school) , sings The Sound of Silence in a similar way, building up to the powerful use of vocal fry as the songs builds toward its crescendo. So this is the connection Henk taps into in relation to Floor. Draiman is, like Henk, a baritone, giving both singers that effortlessly rich vocal tonality.

Floor was 9 years old when she heard Henk Poort sing in de musical the fantom of the opera. Since tthat day is Henk Poort Floors idol. So when this show invited Floor to come and she heatd Henk was coming to... She said yesssss

Henk was basically one of Floor's main idols and inspirations. She agreed to go on this "reality" show ONLY because Henk was on the show in 2019. The show did get her home country to become aware of her talent. TMK, this was the FIRST time Henk even sang with distortion. If you watch full episode he discusses this. He goes a little metal "for Floor". Its full mutual appreciate between them. Also, after this season much of the band worked with Floor and actual performed with her. The collaborations were so good she worked with them afterwards.

THE Great Henk Poort has especially for the episode of Floor Jansen and because floor likes the version of dissturpt the best and as a tribute to Floor's metal career Henk Poort learned how to sing with disstorcie in 24 hours especially and only for Her because if you in the opera sings like this you are immediately sent away . maybe I should explain a little bit who Henk Poort is for those who don't know him : Poort is a baritone. He followed a classical singing education at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He won the Cristina Deutekom Competition during his singing education. Poort sang at several European opera houses, such as in Ulm en Krefeld. He made guest appearances for, for example, the Dutch Opera, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Hessische Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, the National Reisopera, the VARA (Opera matinee in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw). Poort was a fellow jury member for the music program Una voce particolare. From September 2008 to the end of November 2008 he took part in a theater tour throughout the Netherlands with De 3 Baritones (Marco Bakker, Ernst Daniël Smid and himself). Poort made another theater tour throughout the Netherlands with De 3 Baritons from December 2009 to March 2010. In 2017 Poort was one of the participants of the eighteenth season of the RTL 5 program Expedition Robinson, he fell fourth and finished in 16th place. In 2019 Poort participated in Best Singers, where he took first place in the Dutch iTunes list with his version of “Sound of Silence”. At about 13 years old Floor's Mother took her to see Henk and Joke de Kruijf in the Dutch version of Phantom of the Opera. Floor was incredibly impressed by this song so when they asked her to go on Beste Zangers and told her Henk was going to be on the show she jumped at the chance to meet her childhood hero. Only 1 other of the singers had ever heard of Floor so when Floor opened the show by singing Vilja Lied for Henk they were all absolutely shocked and amazed. henk was not the first operasinger in the show. in 2017 TANIA KROSS was the first. the show alrays tries to make a mix of different kind of styles. should try tanya in MARGHERITA and get blown away by her duet with TOMMIE CHRISTIAAN singing BARCELONA. in 2018 operasinger MARIA FISELIER was on the show. try her in IL MONDO and get blown away by her singing/rapping LOSE YOURSELF (yes , a eminem cover)

You are actually on the right track here!! Floor won a prize in the Netherlands that year, mainly because of her ability to build bridges between the genres. Floor has, from the start of her career, been mixing and working with mixing the techniques from all styles and genres, to get the ultimate results. And her work or progress are very obvious to the listeners. And here, in a little intimate studio with only 6 professional singers, she affects others to blow their boundaries and jump into the deep end - to create the ultimate experience of each song. And here Henk got inspired by Floor in the previous 3 sessions of Beste Zangers - to really throw his professional comfort zone away - and go for something he had never tried/dared to do - using distortion - just to give Floor something back. The result are in my opinion, the greatest version of the song ever. All the others said, during the sessions - after Floor had done a cover of one of their songs - now we have to do it over!. Precisely the same happened in 'Sing meinen song' from this year 2022 - Floor performed some versions that really inspired the others. Comments like: 'This was how the song was supposed to be' - or 'ours are just karaoke versions'!! Floor brings confidence to into people - to jump into the creative track, and evolve. Henk is a brilliant example - Floor and him have done more songs together, because Henk wants to explore his 'rock side'

The whole series was fantastic . You dont need to react but watch each full episode. At the start Floor was unknown to Holland and all but one of the singers. Now Floor is a dutch superstar and in fact this weekend is singing the national anthem at the F1 race (Dutch Grand Prix)

Henk sings some opera but he is more known for the musicals. The Phantom of the Opera is actually a musical.

Around 20 operas and 11 musicals. I'd say he's an opera singer first and foremost, just better known to the masses for leading roles in The Phantom, Les Mis etc.

One of the highlights of this night when they were honoring Floor was Emma Heester’s version of Floor’s song Strong. It brought Floor to tears, as she (Floor) had written it about her mother who suffers from constant pain, yet perseveres. Probably the most touching moment in the entire show

I must say there are a few good versions of this great song out there. For me Disturbed’s version with lead singer David Draiman is probably the finest cover version of any song ever. In fact so good the original writer said this was David’s song from now on. Can’t get better than that and definitely worth a listen.
