Netflix deserves to get smacked in the face for this. Pay for a franchise, then run it with people who hate it. Like getting the franchise for a burger restaurant, then staffing it with vegans.

Can’t say I’m surprised Cavill left. He is by far the most passionate and professional one involved in this project and it really showed with Season 2. Honestly if I were caught in his situation where nobody considered my 2 cents about authenticity and frankly mocked the source material I loved.. then yeah I would be inclined to separate myself from it all. Really Henry is the ONLY saving grace this show had and it’s 💯 dead in the water now. Season 2 was the catalyst, Season 4 will undoubtedly be its demise. So sad man this show had worlds of potential, quite literally.

Honestly the biggest shame to me is that here and there, during the show, you see scenes and lines of dialogue where a truly good tv adaptation shines through. Usually, they're the scenes and lines that Cavill pushed for, and it really shows. Just such a shame he wasn't in charge, or at least given greater influence over the direction of the show. sad thing is, Henry said himself that he was commited to the 7 season plan on the condition that they would stick to the source material. and just last season he said that he was frustrated that he had to constantly keep pushing for a book accurate Geralt as the writers wanted to deviate from that. So it seems that him quiting isnt just that he's got the superman job back, but that he wasnt liking where the show is going and said screw this. which leaves me to assume season 3 will be even worse, not that it matters as its dead in the water without Cavill and Netflix will cancel likely after season 4.

His "hints" in interviews after Season 2 were blatantly obvious. He kept saying how HARD he had to fight for staying true to Geralt and how hard he had to fight for every tiny thing from the books. There were so many "slight jabs" at the show creators. When interviewers praised the story, he specifically said stuff like the story is great IN THE BOOKs etc...

Yeah..I wouldnt even call them "hints'...he was very vocal. I remember him saying in 10 different ways, that he wanted more focus on Geralt but since the showrunner is against that, he had to try and "accept" it, "make it work" "adapt" and see where it goes, over and over again while having an awkward apologetic smile. That is just a a polite "they are shafting Geralt's role in the show" version and he still was not happy with how he worded it and was trying to make his displeasure even more clear without being unprofessional about it. His decision to leave was easy to see.

They deliberately hire Lauren, who doesnt have a big name, doesnt care about the books and is more than happy to follow that vision and they/together with the upper management and PR department, create an unholly mess. Henry Cavill has been quietly dissatisfied with the show since season 1, when it became obvious the show-runner's vision was vastly different from the source material. For those who believe that Henry left the show purely due to Man of Steel, he said himself that he was committed to the 7-season plan, _"As long as we can keep telling great stories which honour Sapkowski's work."_ He was especially vocal about his feelings in his recent interview with PhilStar: _“The toughest part for me was finding that balance between the showrunner's vision and my love for the books, and trying to bring that Geralt to the showrunner’s vision."_ He's mentioned more than once that her vision was at odds with his own expectations and that he tried, to the best of his ability, to steer the show in a faithful direction. As a "psychopathic lore-loyalist" (Happy, Sad, Confused podcast 2020) and lover of all things Witcher, I think he felt it was time to depart as soon as he was contractually able. The return to Man of Steel came at exactly the right time for him to excuse himself from the continued desecration of the franchise, despite being nowhere near pre-production. Lauren can attest to the fact that Henry wanted this role more than anything and I truly believe that, had the show respected Sapkowski's world, Henry would have been more than willing to commit himself to the proposed 7-season plan, on top of any DC commitments.

Cavill has also said very little about Season 3. The only thing he said is the fight choreographer from Season 1 is back and they will have some cool fight scenes. I remember seeing an early interview with Henry where he talked about the bathtub scene and how most of the Netflix people didn''t even realize how iconic that was, but how he insisted he wanted it to have the right "flavour" despite the size of the tub being wrong, and how awkward that was for him physically. He did it because he knew Witcher fans would blow up over it. Netflix is really screwing the pooch here.

I firmly believe that he is leaving because of the differences. He loves Geralt, he was so proud to play him... why would he want to focus on other "big roles" when Geralt WAS supposed to be the big role? Also, when you talked about Roach's death, I just realized how forgettable the whole season was. I hardly remember any of it, because it didn't resonate with me at all - while I still sometimes get random flashbacks to the game (the Wild Hunt, that is) and literal heartache when I hear some of its music. I fear based on some of the design choices and themes in CP2077 that CDPR has gone down the preverbal rabbit hole and is becoming more and more pozzed amongst its creative teams. I noticed this not long after the W3 release, there was an excessive want for approval from the US media that distinguished itself from normal marketing elsewhere, as such, I suspect that W4 will be significantly more culturally aligned with the US and further alienate itself from the source material and Slavic culture from which it is derived. Unfortunately, this is just a reality of the current year, just be prepared for that and don’t set expectations so high.

There is an article back in dec 2021 by IGN, where Henry was hoping that season 3 would stay loyal to the source material. these are some of what he said, I quoted from that article: Talking about which character he would like to see developed further, Cavill highlighted Nenneke, an important character from the books described as part of Geralt's "chosen family." "To be true to the books, I think there's a chance to explore the Nenneke relationship a little further," Cavill says. "Of course, I would love to work with the Witchers some more, but it all depends on how much the story allows. I'm a huge fan of the books and staying loyal to them, and it's about making sure that story happens without too much in the way of diversions or side things going on to muddy the waters." - Henry Cavill So if he decided to leave after season 3, that could be strong indication that , the showrunners just didn't care about the source materials. good on Henry to leave, he was great as Geralt in my opinion. it is Netflix loss, not his, I mean he got his role back as Supes anyway, which is great for dc fans. I lean towards of the second one you pointed out which is the creative differences between Henry and the showrunners. I just dont buy it, if it's solely because of the Superman role, there are many actors who had taken more than one job, ( multiple roles)/job contratcts, it's still doable.

I think it's a little of Column A, and a little of Column B in this case. Like you've said, we've gotten some pretty significant hints that Henry and the writers haven't seen eye to eye on the direction the show is taking. I think he genuinely became disheartened as the show began to diverge even further from the books, then when he caught wind of the chance to return to Superman, another character that he has shown a good deal of love for, he took the opportunity, choosing to move on toward projects that he currently has more hope for.

That means that for Netflix the Witcher is just another "usual project in the list" and that's sad. I didn't like S2 but love some moments from him and S1 but the direction they go i think the it's not good way. And it seems S3 and 4 should be even worse and that's blow my mind ant getting me upset... I want this show to be good because i want people to love this franchise (games, books, shows, anime) as I am, but the writer's (some od them hate books, bruh) don't think that way...

The Witcher S1: (The Last Wish + Sword of Destiny) "The voice of reason"(Geralt recovering in Neneke's temple) narrated beetween the episodes until episode 5, maybe start of the 6. -Ep.1 _"The Witcher"_ (Strigga) "The seed of truth" (history of Nivellen and Mireena, this one could be skipped if series schedule needs to cut content, but would be a solid second episode) -Ep.2 "The lesser evil" (Blaviken) -Ep.3 "A matter of price" (Law of surprise) -Ep.4 "The edge of the world" (Jaskier and the elfs introduction) -Ep.5 "The Last Wish" (Geralt and Yennefer) -Ep.6 "The bounds of reason" (Borch Three Jackdaws story) -Ep.7 "A shard of ice" (Geralt and Yennefer break up) "Eternal fire" (Dudu and introduction to the Eternal fire, this one is hard to pass because i feel important to introduce the eternal fire, but outside of that if content must be cut this would be one of them) "A little sacrifice" (History of Essi and the siren, i feel like this one is the most skippable of all, is good but doesn't add much to the history and starts the Geralt love interests and fidelity dilema, tho he wasn't with Yennefer at this times.) -Ep.8 "Sword of Destiny" (Geralt in the Brokilon forest and first meeting with a very young Ciri) -Ep.9 "Something more" (Geralt searchs and finds Ciri during the invasion of Cintra and setting up for next season.) I would cast a different actress for Ciri in episode 8 and 9, letting ep.9 be Ciri's final choice for the actress. Let me know what you think about it!

You massively underestimate the importance of "A little sacrifice". Yennefer is among the most important characters in that story - even though she isn't even there. Her name is dropped once at most. @@xanxv1246 It's just that "The Eteral Fire" is pretty much the only short story that is not essential for the Geralt/Dandelion/Yen/Ciri character arc. Hissech probably dropped it because she thought it skipable as well (Not that I wanna compare you to her ofc). That short story is essentially two stories: The one on the surface and the story that is happening between the lines. The "little sacrifice" is not just what Sheenaz does for Angloval (Probably butchered the names), but also what Geralt and Yen have to do as well. Learn to sacrifice things for the other person. Surely they would have had time to cover the short stories and Blood of Elves in two seasons had they not bothered with all the added stuff. They wasted so much screen time and worthless filler material. But if we just look at the very first episode: They totally had enough time to handle the Renfri story (Granted they still messed up the core of the story, but that's beside the point) whilst also showing the fall of Cintra

Hi xLetails, interesting tidbit on Roach's life cycle. I see other videos discussing how the writers may not be passionate fans themselves. However, I'm wondering if there is some third possibility. The games and books are not exactly the same ( though arguably they tend to not deviate dramatically in terms of characters?), so I wonder if the writers did set out to do something different and didn't have a clear vision of what would be the same and what should be different in their own spin off

I stopped watching after the first season for the exact same reason, while the first couple of episodes are great the shows start to wonder off closer to the end of the first season and i just knew it would get worse from there. Didn't want to let the creators to ruin the world of the witcher for me, and i guess so did Henry. Once again, much respect!!!

Now that said, I thought most of the writing for Season 2 stunk, so it is not exactly as shocking as it would be had the writing been spectacular and more in line with the source material. Netflix has no idea how to write anything, even if it has established lore and characters, they still can't get it right. The writers at netflix only care about 1 aspect of writing; to make viewers feel grief. Whether it be killing off a much beloved character, or simply just destroying the story narrative for clicks. They will do it because they have not got a single ounce of a clue as to how to write a gripping story. Netflix has thrown the standard of movies and T.V series into the gutter. You never used to go intentionally watch a B movie. Now netflix *only* makes B movies and that standard has flooded into T.V series, where the standard was already low in comparison to movies, they have made it even lower.
