I have very fond memories of this band and Singapore because I learned to play guitar there. I had a few lessons from a wonderful player Called Vivien Nones. If anyone remembers him - he could play like god - Chet Atkins. The Quests once played with Keith Locke whom I also used talk to. They had a hit song with him Don't Play That Song For Me. - the other side was C'mon and Be My Girl . Sometimes they would play in Toby's Paradise bar. I was intrigued that despite the advent of new bands like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones they were still influenced by The Shadows even composing original material in the Shadow style. Although British I now live in Prague but still play in bands here. It was great to see this guy interviewed though he won't remember me. Although today's stuff is still relevant to rock and roll I agree with him about its digitilization especially what they do to the voices.

The Quests and their memorable hit, Shanty, no fan of the Quests will ever forget this song of theirs. Their story is truly amazing of how they started off as young teens casually playing music to a very successful music career! I also remember another favourite of the Quests wth Keith Locke, "Dont play that song.." we wld all sing along to this lyrics..." you lied, you lied, you lied, lied lied, lied lied". Brings back fond memories n makes us feel nostalgic. The Quests were superb and so successful!

During the 60s the Quest was one of the top band in Asia or maybe even in the world. My inspiration to learn the guitar comes from the icons like the Shadows, Quest and many such bands. Even now the Quest sound is evergreen.

Great to see Henry, the gifted brother still going strong in the Lord's work and blessing many through music. We enjoyed the jam sessions with James and Henry.

That was the time when we could only listen to their songs through radio and records and never know how they looked like. I like listening to their backing music of Rita Chao and Sakura.

Thank you for having Henry Chua on WWWY. I am writing to share with you that in November 2020, a UK record company, Bim Bam Records, has released a CD of instrumental selections from The Quests on their Stylus Music label. Unfortunately, the cover misinformed The Quests were from Indonesia, although they got it correct on the disc label as "Fender Stratocaster Singapore Style". Track 2, 3 & 4 were not the 1964 & 65 versions, but the 1968 re-recorded versions for Hong Kong market when they were contracted to perform at the colony's Mocambo Night Club. Notwithstanding the errors, it is still worth having the CD as in time to come it would be a rarity and sought-after item. Roxy Records & Trading at Excelsior Shopping Centre - Coleman Street has brought in copies for sales. The Quests have recorded 3 Henry Chua's compositions of which we are familiar with "Shanty" and "Tea Break". However, we seldom hear "Memories". It is a slow instrument with strings accompaniment, arranged by Rufino Soliano, and played by violinist Julai Tan and the strings section from Radio Television Orchestra. (Source - Henry Chua's book "Call It Shanty - The Story Of The Quests".)
