Even though I can rake in some 4-5 clean neutral pull ups, I struggle with wide pull ups, hardly 2-3 clean ones. Why this difference? Does these two engage different muscles?
@userunknown157818 күн бұрын
Jackknife pull-ups are the most underrated pull-up progression... Everyone is always jumping straight to negatives despite having horrible scapular strength/control.

Not that simple but almost. Focus on sticking your chest out and focusing on that area in the green and it'll help

Also focus on initiating the movement from your lats not just trying to pull the bar down
@canuke18 күн бұрын
Pay close attention to the dude changing his shoulder position (right after the young woman). See how he pulls his lats down and rolls his shoulders back, getting himself into external rotation? That’s the critical part of your start position. It sets you up for the proper pulling technique that will automatically get your chest leading the way up. Don’t have good external shoulder rotation? Watch more clips from this channel to improve shoulder mobility and strengthen the smaller muscles in that area and everything will work more smoothly. You’ve got this!👊

I actually couldnt do a single pull up my entire life until I was like 28 years old , then I went to a Crossfit gym where the coach taught me that same thing to "pull the bar towards you". I thought I had to pull myself up with my arms the entire time. It took me a while to understand but now I can do like 14-15 pull ups.

Crosshit? Do flop around while doing those 14-15 pull ups? Cus those don't count. 😂😂😂
@Darkmagician845 күн бұрын
@@gzus1482 you mean butterfly pullups? I cant do any of those, it's actually a lot harder than you think. Strict pullups though, all the way chin over bar and then back all the way down with arms locked out and without moving my legs or hips I can only do about 14-15. Butterfly pullups are almost never trained, it's mostly for competitions.

I'm a fan of using resistance bands for progression because even though it reduces the difficulty of the stretched position, it trains full ROM and translates better to the actual movement. I do like that regression for practicing chest to bar technique though.

I've been seeing an exercise physiologist for about 4.5 months. I've never had visible muscles anywhere on my body, and have had chronic upper middle back pain for about 15 years. He's had me working out my back muscles with good form, as well as many other exercises over this time. Today was the first day that I took a video of my back muscles when flexing, and damn, I was impressed with the muscles. My daughter taped the video for me and was so happy to see me smile at the footage. I recently also beat my 2 gym junkie siblings and my dad in arm wrestling which I thought would never happen because they're jacked compared to me. Back muscles are really important.

Is there an equivalent intention for push ups?
@jehorigby877814 күн бұрын
Yes and no Slow, strict form, military style, no bouncing. Two seconds down, pause, one second up, grab a ticking clock to check speed. You want to get comfortable in the bottom position where gains are most noticeable Learn to control your shoulder blades, moving them up and down your back, then close and far from your spine. With *stable lats* your palms feel FAR stronger, with better balance
@Champion290117 күн бұрын
Even for that you need some strength and I don't even have that😂

Unless I'm still getting it wrong, and I don't think I was, I still can't do a pull up :'(
@cryptonic79918 күн бұрын
Lose weight, and work on negatives; step up into a pull-up and lower yourself very controlled and slowly. Once you can lower yourself slowly 8-12 times, you can probably do 1 pull-up. Then do as many pull-ups as you can (might be 1) then focus on the negatives again. After a while, you’ll be doing pull-ups. If youre having issues with forearms or scapula instead, then work in some dead hangs and scapula pull-ups (pull-ups were you just focus on bringing your rotator cuff/scapula into position for pull-up)
@cryptonic79918 күн бұрын
Either way, just keep trying to do pull-ups and you’ll get it eventually 😊 dont give up
