I just found out that she is Latina Mexican American. I always thought this was a black singer. We used to slow dance to this song and cruise in our lowriders. I just looked it up and I thought that she died in her sleep. If that's true I'm very sorry. May she rest in peace

"Angel Baby" was a 1960 single by Rosie and the Originals. The song was recorded independently on a two-track machine in the small farming community of San Marcos CA when lead singer Rosie Hamlin was only 15 years old. Initially unable to find a label willing to distribute the song because of its unpolished sound, the group convinced a San Diego department store to pipe their master through the listening booths in the record department. The response from listeners prompted Highland Records to sign the band and promote the single. Since its release the song has become an oldies standard." Rosie wrote the lyrics for "Angel Baby" as a poem for her very first boyfriend when she was 14 years old, She was not even given credit for writing it on the 45. Its "unpolished sound" was/is part of its appeal in an era when most pop recordings were over produced by record producers . BTW, back then record stores usually had "listening booths" where you could listen to a "45" before purchasing it .

She was the first Latina artist to appear on American Bandstand and was the first Latina inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. She was never able to duplicate the success that she had with "Angel Baby" and, sadly, died at the age of 71 in 2017 due to advanced fibromyalgia.

Yes, you’ve heard that chord progression so many times in so many songs. Blue Moon and Heart and Soul as well as Stand By Me. There’s a song from Grease called “Magic Changes” that is about the sound from the era. Love you guys! Thanks for loving this music. So glad! I used to take so much guff for liking 50s music, and you’ve vindicated me! I knew it was good back in the 70s and it’s STILL good. I used to sing this song in a doo Wop group. John Lennon said it was his fav song and he covered it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I cannot begin to tell you how much this song affects me. The emotion of it. Love Rosie Hamlin's voice. I believe she was only 15 when they recorded this. And I believe she passed away about 4 or 5 years ago. R.I.P. Rosie. A lot of songs of this nature used similar chord progressions just like most pop songs today use the exact same chord progressions. So I'm sure you have heard similar sounding songs. Thanks again and God Bless.

My grandma said I ran to my aunt and sat there looking around, I was too young to really remember, I just know what my grandma and my aunt told me.

Hello I’m from Poland so I have 2 sugesttions for U First is Vader -i am who feasts upon your soul Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Vader went through several lineup changes over the years, with Wiwczarek as the only constant member. Since 2011, the band has comprised Wiwczarek on guitars and vocals, guitarist Marek "Spider" Pająk, bassist Tomasz "Hal" Halicki, and British drummer James Stewart. Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. It would not be until nine years after forming that they managed to release their debut album The Ultimate Incantation (1992); Vader has released eleven more studio albums since then. The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series. Lyrical themes include stories by H. P. Lovecraft, World War II, and horror. According to Billboard magazine, by 2002 Vader sold approximately 500,000 releases around the world. Second is Acid Drinkers - blues beat down Acid Drinkers are a Polish thrash metal band formed in September 1986 in Poznań. Acid Drinkers were formed on 21 September 1986 consisting of Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki (vocals, bass) and Robert "Litza" Friedrich (guitar, vocals). The band's style is thrash metal, with influences of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Acid Drinkers are rated as one of the most important bands in the Polish thrash and heavy metal world. All the best !!! Listen and Enjoy 🤘🏼

Always love this song! Could you react to The Look Of Love and Fool On The Hill by Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66, also the singer and song writer Neil Sedaka? Thank you so much! 🙏
