Hello, I am making my dad a tincture of pain killers. I am making all of them separate, but going to mix them into one tincture. My mixture will be teasel root, ginger root, burdock, yucca, turmeric, & cloves. Do you see anything wrong with this mix? I want to kill the pain, not my dad. He is not allergic to anything & is not on blood thinners. I am stay away from devils claw & black cohosh. 🇺🇲😇

Oh, no! I'm so sorry. Here's a suggestion to research for your eye...I've used chamomile tea as a wash before, and it's done well. You can also combine with a stronger herb, like thyme (no oregano in your eye). Make a tea and rinse or use to dip a cloth in as a warm compress several times a day. Hi Heidi, I love your videos, and philosophies and you. I have been following you for a while now, and my question to you is about echinacea. I was "told" you should not use it for more than 3 weeks at a time. What are your thoughts, experiences with this herb. I have an extremely damaged spine and have been using your pain tincture for a while now. I have been able to get off of most of my pain meds now (still weening off others), so thank you very much. However, there is echinacea in it, so that concerns me a little. What are your thoughts, recommendations?
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 9 ай бұрын
If you are using echinacea for immune boosting, and a "fuller" amount such as a half teaspoon or so 2-3 times a day, then yes, you should take a break every three weeks or so. If it's part of a blend in a much smaller amount and for a different reason than immune boosting, you can use it for a longer period. However, I do recommend taking a break form all herbs every few weeks, even if they're very safe, just so the body doesn't completely acclimate/habituate.

I realized I made my oregano tincture with vodka and not oil. Will it still be okay to use? And do you use a full dropperful under tongue?
@HeidiVillegas

Absolutely! This is fine. You may need to dilute the tincture, depending on your preferences, though. Great job! :-)

What is a double infusion?
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
A double infusion is when you infuse the liquid twice, both times with fresh herbal matter. Then there's a dual extraction, which means combining one preparation method with another for a final product. Both of these are fine for usnea, and most herbalists have a favorite. Both are effective, although I think the dual extraction method is probably best.

@@HeidiVillegas Thank you so much! I was thinking my usnea tincture was very light colored. I’ll be sure to do it. 😃. I really appreciate your videos and teaching. I’m loving this!

My oregano has gone to seed. Can I still harvest it to use in a tincture or oil or would it be better to trim and wait for it to grow back
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 11 күн бұрын
You can still use it. The flavor will be different, but it will still be a good tincture.

We've got several protocols inside our student community! It depends on the stage it's in, the age of the person, and how it's presenting symptom-wise. In herbalism, we look at a number of factors because remedies aren't one-size-fits-all most of the time. Generally though....I handle most with a tincture of sage, goldenseal, red root, marshmallow; a saline spray that may include strong sage/thyme infusion; and then essential oils for inhalation that include 1,8-cineole, menthol, and camphor (again depending on the age of the person---these are too strong for children under 10).

What about oregano tincture taken internally?
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 9 ай бұрын
Oregano tincture in small amounts should be fine...and quite helpful when just coming down with a cold, too. It's considered a "food" herb, so as long as it's a gentle extract like a tincture it's probably fine for most.

What do we do to keep our dried herbs that are in jars viable? Do they need an oxygen absorber or anything?
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
Some people choose to use them, but honestly, if they're stored in a tightly closed jar in a cool, dry, dark area that's optimal. The fresher they are, the higher quality. Most aerial parts if dried properly will last a couple of years stored well.

What do you suggest for vaginal bacterial infections? And is it safe to douch with some of these herbs?
@HeidiVillegas
@HeidiVillegas 9 ай бұрын
First, let me say I'm not a doctor, and this is definitely not any kind of diagnosis, cure, treatment, or anything medical. These are informational comments only, and in no way are medical advice. Here are my thoughts, and without knowing all I would need to know: I personally would not douche with herbal teas, or with anything tbh, as the vagina is a beautifully made organ and self-cleans, but perhaps an herbal sitz bath with aromatic herbs may be helpful. Vaginal suppositories are another alternative, so do a lot of research and work with a skilled herbalist or aromatherapist trained clinically in your area for these, as this is considered internal use (do not try these on your own). You can also work with a drop of essential oil on a panty liner. The vapors help, and the essential oil is soaked in, so isn't in direct contact with the skin. I like tea tree....just a drop. BUT if it's very bad or if it smells, or if it's just not going away, or if it's very uncomfortable, please be sure to go see a doctor, and don't wait! **And I'll add to also support your immune system, and eat raw fermented foods for the probiotics in the case it's candida-or fungal related.
