I hate to hear that older car so called experts "crucify" Doug when they disagree with him. Prime example of the few ruining it for the rest of us. I LOVE the older car videos and hope Doug will still do them from time to time. His enjoyment while filming cars he has loved since childhood is so enjoyable to watch and enjoy.

Yes! I’d totally let Doug come review my car and I’d make it super easy for him since I have don’t a lot of research on my car from sheer interest and would be more than happy to write a simplified compilation of all the information I have on it. I would also have no problem with making a follow up video featuring all the things he missed if any with the intent to add to the review.

Okay much along the same line or phrasing as I told another individual minute ago. I would? I would thank him. But again what he considers quirky about a lot of cars especially the ones from 20 30 years ago they just want that quirky. He gets so excited and as he put it animated about the most mundane things that aren't that exciting. He's actually informative sure he's a smart guy he seems to know a thing or to about cars but he just needs to learn to tone it down and chill out a little. I don't think the problem is people correcting him, I think it's how they do it. I've seen people be as petty as to call Doug an idiot because he said the infotainment screen takes 2 seconds (picked a random number because I can't remember the actual number) to respond. There people like "if he took 2 secs to go into settings he'd know you could reduce that time". Just being rude over something that small.

@@randomcharacter6501 to be fair there are times when he deducts points off of cars for things that are available as an option or even already in the car but he didn't find them - on those occasions I find it important to state the error, so people using Dougs videos as consumer advice get the full picture. For example I remember he has consistently talked about the Audi Touchscreens needing to be pressed hard and not just a tap like other screens. This can be turned off in the settings, as well as the haptic feedback, which he has also talked about negatively before.

Old car reviews are way more interesting to me than the latest joebloggsmobile. I recently saw a _JayEmm on Cars_ review of an old school musclecar (either a charger or mustang) in which a began with the disclaimer that everyone clicking on the video probably knew much more about that specific car than him. Hopefully getting in a premptive mea culpa made the responses to the video more constructive.

It's worth mentioning that his version of 'filming' is extremely laid back compared to that of his peers (other channels with similar/1mil+ sub counts). He usually films alone, so no one is barking orders at him to change this or that. He uses an iPhone to film (or has he finally upgraded to a camcorder?), so it's not like he has dozens of settings to fiddle with, lighting tools, gyroscopes, drones, etc. to keep track of, set-up and operate. No one else is even involved in deciding how to edit together the clips he's filmed, and he doesn't do any editing effects whatsoever, not even color/lighting adjustments. No scripts to remember/act out in a believable way... so the only reason his job is time consuming is because of his insistence on uploading twice a week. He does do some voiceover stuff, and splices in a couple clips here and there, but compared to other multi million sub creators that manage their channels solo (like TheRussianBadger, for example, who literally bought a $30k motion capture suit so that he could go from using still images to fully rendering sequences via the Source engine, just for the comedic bits that take up about 1/3-1/2 of the content in his average video), it just seems a bit cringe to me for him to make a video like this. Not saying Doug should change things, just that by comparison, the amount of time he spends on this job is self-imposed since he is more than wealthy enough to live the rest of his life in relative comfort even if he never uploaded again. He can reduce the amount of content he uploads anytime he wants to, he just needs to decide for himself when that time is. I'm guessing he will go down to 1 video a week within a few months of his child being born.

@@robertshea4652 well there goes my theory, lol. He never mentions it specifically in his videos, and I don't follow him anywhere else, so I didn't know, but I had a feeling that it might have already quirked it's way into the world by now. I still think he's going to have to reduce his flow of content at least a bit. If he doesn't, I feel like the stress of managing his time will just keep building up until he hits his breaking point. I hope that doesn't happen, but if your schedule is already difficult enough to cause you to feel a bit overworked, then adding the responsibility of raising a newly born child into the mix likely won't be feasible for long without making some changes.

The reason he doesn't want to do anymore older cars are Americans. He knows very well that there are good American cars out there: Like the Ford Taurus, the Mustang fastback, Chrysler 300, any 1980 AMCs, Dodge Caravan, Lincoln Mark Series, Saturn cars, Pontiac Grand Am, and any muscles cars. Most of the older models are German cars he still drools. And his favorites are failed American cars, which is not fair.

I wish other Religious Branches of any Faith who do Missionary Work here would be that way. The way Doug focuses on quirks and features is why he's so relatable. As a kid, I remember spending literally HOURS in my dad's or uncle's car, trying to figure out what these buttons did or why certain things were put together in such way. Even without having an ability to drive, each of these cars was a small universe of its own to this little kid with their own personalities and idiosyncrasies. Watching Doug still reminds me of those days and how my love for cars have started. The concept seems simple enough but no one else does it the way he does. Hope to see him for many many more years.

Well I'm sure this will entertain anybody they'll probably mock back at me for doing it. But the reason this dog I want to say clown that's rude individual bugs me so much with his quirks and features. Is it most of those so-called quirky features are not that quirky and his energy level is just irritating all the respect to him most people don't get that excited about so little. I mean it's a car yes. But it's nothing special most of the stuff that he reviews I mean it's not like reviewing a unusual foreign car versus when you anytime they can hear you can get their hands on.

A consummate professional and trailblazer on KZbin, Doug has set a very high standard of content and clearly works hard to achieve it.

Doug, I respect you very much for having so much persist filming these videos and run your business at the same time. I’ve never seen anyone like you who would sacrifice everything you have for us viewers. You would rather fly to different cities and countries just to film videos for us instead of spending time with your family. You are always trustworthy and you say what you mean, you said you were going to film 3 videos every week and you kept that promise for years even until now. You are that type of person that would start doing something and finish it no matter what. For example, you filmed a video about the 2022 Subaru WRX and you were still filming when rain was pouring down. When your camera wasn’t working, you would even drive 30 minutes there and back in heavy rain and buy a brand new camera to finish off the video. In your videos you tell us almost everything about the vehicle and you would find some very quirky features that some car owners might not even know about. Sometimes it’s very rare that in your videos you would maybe say something wrong or maybe just state something that’s not true but everyone makes mistakes and that’s normal. I just don’t get why are there so many hates because of such small mistake. Also you are a very humble person. Right now I’m assuming that you are making a large amount of money but you are still filming videos with a T shirt and shorts on. You do not like to show what luxury items you have and you are still being like this which no KZbinr has done before. You should have much more subscribers than you have now to support you! I know there are a ton of trolls out there who are always happy to displace their angst onto someone they disagree with or for the smallest of errors, but it's not worth giving up the heart and soul of one of the main things that has made your channel so great. I really hope you reconsider, even if it means a dedicated channel for older cars with no comments enabled. I and I'm sure so many others would be dedicated viewers.

I am an E36 fanatic and when I watched Doug's video on the M3 I was actually really impressed at how well Doug nailed the informationing, knowing how hard it is to get that kind of stuff accurate. So I've always wondered how he does it so efficiently for so many cars. Loll it's crazy to think that a car enthusiast would call him out for getting some obscure fact about some specific 90s car wrong when he's not researching, owning, working and driving that car every day xD

Hi Doug. If you ever do another one of these, would you consider sharing more about how you prepare for your shoot? How much do you have prepared ahead of time, vs. how much is off the cuff? The quirks that you point out are at times extraordinarily detailed and things that most would never notice. I'd love to hear more about your methodology. Also, let me just say that I'm a big fan of the older car reviews. While I'm with you on that the sad reality is that nowadays most people who watch a video aren't subscribed to the channel they watch. They watch videos that were recommended by the almighty algorithm. And the almighty algorithm doesn't like you taking a break. When you continue after a break your videos don't get recommended any more so you rely on your subs only. And nowadays usually even your subs don't watch all of your videos. And even if you continue being consistent again after taking a break it takes forever for your numbers to get back to normal. The algorithm rewards steadiness. It punishes you for breaking your pattern. So taking a break means preparing however many videos you'd miss in advance and schedule them or have someone manage your account in your absence. That temporarily increases your workload a lot to prepare all the videos.

I am a two Porsche owner and have been an exotic/supercar fan all my life. When I was in Grammar School I would ride my bike to the Porsche dealer about 2 miles from my house a couple of times a week and just sit in them. If a Porsche drives by me or alongside me today I still think, "I want a Porsche so bad!", and I have never not owned at least one for 30+ years! Anyway, I have enormous respect for your industry, enthusiasm, intelligence, diligence, relatability, wit, and the quality of your information and performance reviews. Anybody who has ever created something from nothing knows how hard it is, and how much harder it is to keep it afloat. I genuinely could not be more happy for the success, income, and international acknowledgement your hard work is providing you and your family. What a tremendous example of a real achievement of the American Dream in the Age of New Media. I'm happy I watched this, as a viewer for several years I seem to have never really processed how consistent and plentiful Doug's upload schedule is. It's truly incredible- it adds so much more appreciation to his work for me, and simple upmost respect from me. Work is always quality, typically always bone-stock examples, pristine examples even, and pretty much 100% factual aspects. I feel that people who aren't car enthusiasts can even appreciate such work, everything is explained so effectively and entertainingly so. It's rough to hit all the marks about older cars- especially those that have cult followings like Civics and whatnot. I hope that Doug knows that it's just a loud minority, I doubt people like myself care if information given on a vehicle isn't spot-on. Regardless, the stated facts are always from a logical standpoint. All in all I was pretty stoked to see some behind the scenes. keep doing what you do best.

It's amazing that he is doing so well, and that is the reason he has to upload continuously. He doe not do videos of X vs Y that are super popular either. The other thing he doe snot seems to handle the haters as well as others, or maybe he is not as cynical because haters are gold, and many KZbinrs exploit them like going after Apple or Land Rover or Tesla etc. Just. steer the pot. I don't like the promotion of hatred, and the world has plenty of that, but we know is good business and good politics.

Hi Doug, I have been loosely following you since your Jalopnik days. Your well-deserved rise and passion for cars are truly inspiring. The first piece of yours I read was about your trip to the Nissan dealership in your Nissan R32 GTR. It was hilarious, and definitely one of my favorites. From there I slowly began following you and watched you become one of, if not the greatest of the car KZbinrs. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning I wake up excited to watch your new videos and when it is an older car I always know I am in for a special treat involving quirks, laughs, and automotive history. I have always loved your older car reviews Doug, especially the famous and/or quirky ones like the Yugo, the Volga Gaz, the Multipla, and the Sienna. I love your attention to detail and the quirks and features so much it is one of the reasons I love your channel Doug. I hope you never give up on reviewing older cars and also your wonderful quirks and features focused style of review. You're the only Car KZbinr I follow almost religiously, and it is for your, sense of humor, your reviews of older cars, your detailed quirks and features style, your integrity and objectivity, and the way I can feel your passion for nearly all cars(except the PT Cruiser and the convertible Murano) in your videos, even those unreliable quirky British ones ;) In short, you're my favorite car KZbinr Doug. I hope you never have to change your style or stop reviewing old cars, but even if you have to I'll still be here.

Dear Doug. Now I feel bad for giving you flack over your R34 GT-R review. I thought you were harder on the car than you needed to be. I can see that you did the best you could considering the situation and ability to research the car. I hope you keep making some older car reviews. I like that a lot about your channel and why I have been subscribed for so long. Keep up the good work.

Hi Doug. Just letting you know that you caring for our entertainment and those let's talk videos really do provide a family-like connection. Please know it is highly appreciated and do not allow the low popularity on those videos deter you from making them.

I agree with everyone saying they love the older car videos. I watch pretty much all of Doug's videos as soon as I get the notifications, but my absolute favorites are when the thumbnail is some super odd-looking Japanese or European car I've never heard of and probably can't pronounce. You see that and you know the video will contain many weird quirks and features. Isn't that why we're here? Also, I appreciate all the work Doug puts into filming, editing, traveling, etc. I remember when he announced his son had been born and I recall thinking at the time, "How far ahead does he film these? There wasn't even a gap this week." I guess all that to say, there are tons of people who appreciate what Doug does and the fact that his videos make our lives better, but we (I) don't usually take the time to say thank you, so "Thank you, Doug".
