A little odd that the ID.4 didn't make your list, given that you've helped three people close to you into them. While it clearly has software issues, you've pointed out repeatedly that it's good value and basically sound. I bought one 3 months ago, based largely on your reviews and recommendations, and am quite happy with it. On the other hand, I urged my son to get the Model Y instead, because he lives in Maine and should be better served by the Tesla infrastructure.

VW ID4 is a dog. Horrific software. My next door neighbor was an early adopter but got rid of it. Poor man had problems on weekly basis and VW and the VW dealer couldn’t help him. It is incomprehensible to me how Porsche an Audi have decent software in their EV cars, Volkswagen doesn’t.

@@drnick40 yikes is this a bad take. Your neighbor either got one of few lemons, has an awful dealership, or has no idea how to operate an EV. Most ID4s have had a great experience, unless you're obsessed with your software being really fast everytime. Anyone switching from an ICEmobile will be totally fine with software that's not the greatest(hint: apple carplay and Android are great with this car). I know multiple Tesla owners that have switched to ID4 as well as ICE owners like me, and love it.

We just today bought a '23 Ioniq 5. Local dealer's pending sale fell through, so we jumped on the availability. (a good way to find one; keep in touch with your local dealers) MSRP, no money grab as some are doing, including one in your area, Kyle. We're in our early 70's, so the learning curve is a bit intimidating but we'll get through it. If the ride home from the dealer is any indication, we're going to love it. Thanks for all your great information.

Electric cars have been a huge gash gob that did nothing to really preserve our planet haha. Our attention has just been directed to things that don´t matter. No one is doing anything to the real sources of pollution. Cars are not it and the electric car is no better than petrol/diesel ones in the 20-year life span they average. Hydrogen is the real future.

Great list. I’ve had my Bolt 2LT for a year now. I chose it because I never planned on going on road trips with it. It’s doing an amazing job as a commuter and city/town/countryside runabout car. Not fast but it moves quicker than most typical vehicles on the road. I do a trip to family, about 340miles away. I charge once at the halfway point for about 40 minutes to an hour, while having lunch. No real complaints. No route planning, but I never need to use it going to town or to work.

GM just needs to do a refresh on the DCFC capabilities and thermal management and the Bolt is fine the way it is. If you ever need to road trip you will appreciate the faster charging times. Your described use seems tolerable, but it would be great for GM to just fix this. That said I live out in an EV desert off of the beaten path and even if you can find a place to charge it is likely capped at 50kw. So it isn't the Bolt that is going to be the reason for the long charging times once you are away from the main transportation corridors. The infrastructure needs a pretty significant lift to make this a better experience all around.

Love the two screens, the 3 stalks, just enough buttons, and the huge screen. Lots of space. 0-60 mph in 3.7 sec. And the range of 402 miles with the Supercharger network is incomparable. Your comments about Electrify America charging experience was spot on: during my Thanksgiving trip from Seattle to the San Francisco Bay Area and back, I had 3 EA complete failures and many super slow “350 kW” chargers barely making it to 100 kW despite 10% remaining battery charge, pre-heating of the battery, etc. Just took another trip from WA to OR and had no EA issues at all. Charged one time at 180 kW and one time at 160 kW without any trouble and plug and charge working flawlessly.

Just bought an EV6 GT a week ago and I am stunned by what Kia has done. The tech is amazing, the quality is top-notch and the acceleration in GT mode is almost frightening. I was worried about the stated 206 mile range, but I am already getting 220+ in 40 degree weather so that should improve in summer. So far in my limited driving I’m getting over 3 miles per kilowatt hour (I got 4.9 on one short drive!) and considering the performance, I can live with that. I drive mostly in Normal mode, which is more than adequate (400+ hp), with fairly frequent short bursts in GT mode. I have owned performance cars all my life, but this thing is something else. Comfort, practically, futuristic good looks, great value for the money, fast charging and blazing acceleration. I love it.

Took a long look at a Model Y last November. Coming from 4 Lexus GX460's over the last 15 years, I couldn't get past the poor ride quality. Ended up with a used Model X from Tesla with air suspension. Tesla includes FSD with most of their used MX's which makes buying from them a better value, too (along with another year warranty). Really glad I did. Much more useable space behind the second row and love the power doors up front and second display.

@@toddwright662 I don't have exact numbers. Just saying if a tesla charging station is full, then even with a Tesla you are going to have to wait longer than you expected. @@kendavis385 "Road trips in an electric still aren't as good as gas. If road trips over the 200 mile range are your #1 priority, a hybrid is probably the best choice." Agreed. The problem as I see it though is for those that road trips are NOT a #1 priority, the depth of the benefits of home charging are often overlooked or at least frequently not given the weight they deserve (assuming home charging is feasible). I know I give up time on a road trip vs. an ICE/hybrid car, but based on taking only one or two significant road trips per year (1200 to 2500 miles round trip for me), I get all (or at least most) of that time back home charging over the course of the rest of the year.

We've had our 2022 Bolt EUV since late September and have almost 9k miles on it. It was new on the lot and had the battery replacement in process, so we just had to wait a few days for that before taking delivery and then did the free NEMA 14-50 port install at home that Chevrolet scheduled with a local electrician and made it really easy. It's been a great daily commuter, which is what we bought it primarily to be used for so nearly always home charging. We've done a trip to Vegas (from Phoenix), one charge up to 80% in Kingman on the way and no issues and that's about the longest trip we plan to make in it. We had free Level 2 charging at our hotel so the trip cost us about $20 roundtrip in charge fees.

I remember a dealer in the Midwest mentioning to me once that I'd essentially have to special order it because Hyundai/Kia had extremely limited quantities of the Ioniq EV and Niro EV. Combined with dealers increasingly adding $5-15k markups to all cars, but especially EV's, it's not surprising that these ones didn't make the list here.

I owned a Lucid Air for 3 weeks and don’t think its software is ready yet. I shared this report with Kyle’s dad, Dave. Lucid has only has one volume level for GPS instructions and the entertainment system. They must be independent. Lucid has no automatic easy entry/exit like most cars. This feature is critical because Lucid has a very low, long sloping A-pillar that hits your head whether short or tall. Although there are two phone charging slots, only the driver’s slot works. Pressing the charging port to open is flaky so they recommend pressing a dashboard button. Despite founder Mr Rawlinson coming from Tesla, it’s shocking the vehicle requires a start/stop button and I don’t think it offers automatic walk-away locking. I want to see this company successful, but with these and other deficiencies, it is over priced. Buyers spending this amount of money have no patience for such flaws.

Totally agree Model Y is clear choice today. I bought a Mach e in December at MSRP and just got my $7,500 back on my taxes so mine was a great deal in 22’. In Dec a Y would have been 17,000 more than my MME. Today those same choices would have the Y about $7,000 cheaper than the MME. There are several things I like better on the MME (Ext/Int styling, driver screen, local dealer support) but you just can’t beat the overall Y pkg for the new price. I’m thrilled with my purchase, tons of compliments on the MME. I’ll happily drive this car for a while (please open up superchargers and it will be so much easier) but if you shopping today, go get a Y.

In regards to the Ioniq 5, they are becoming widely available (in states that they are sold in) extremely quickly. The only trim somewhat hard to find is the Limited. I believe sales are slowing due to several market conditions but especially due to the lack of tax credit qualification. Kyle, thanks for this. Down here in Australia we are still hardly getting allocated any EVs other than the Teslas. Tesla sold 11,000 3s last year and 9,000 Ys. In comparison the other makes hardly make an appearance. Thank you Tesla for doing your best to supply our market! That being said the only EV I have driven have been a couple of Polestar 2s that I rented from Hertz. I have to say I was extremely impressed with them, even though they were only single motor 2wd cars. They were very nice to look at both inside and out, really liked the Scandinavian minimal design, and I loved the stereo. They were a good size, very comfortable, quite luxurious in fact, solidly built, handled well, had nicely compliant suspension, and they went like stink :-) as we like to say in this country. The only downside was the charging, which was pretty slow. I found a couple of what claimed to be 350kw per hour chargers, but the cars never did anything better than about 65kw per hour. I reckon that it just too slow. They are meant to be able to do 150kw per hour, so perhaps it is just our infrastructure :-(.

I'm glad you didn't mention Polestar 2. It's inefficient, cramped and the infotainment isn't prioritized by Google. I've had mine for almost 2.5 years, and they've made minimal changes to the infortainment. I'm getting a Model Y as a company car in April/May, and I can't wait. Keep it up, Kyle!

I rented Polestars at Enterprise and Hertz and while they were fine as a rental, I didn’t like the wasted space consumed by giant console between driver and passenger. Once driving a Tesla, it’s difficult adjusting to a Polestar (and other EVs) where you press a start/stop button getting in & out. That button is totally unnecessary. Also irritating is it has no auto-lock when you walk away from the vehicle.

@@kradius2169 hahahaha had a few close calls, only bricked one ev, was 10 feet from a level two pedestal on an incline. Was a transit connect/azure...the Bolt, had two really close calls, but just got really soft on the power and nursed to a charger...going to Colorado is the hardest from Washington state, cause you got hills, temp, speed, and, well it's a GM car. TL/DR yea had a few , 3 total 🦖

Ioniq 5 maxed out pricing isn’t low 50s as stated in this video. Even if you can find one at MSRP, mid to high 50s is what you can expect for a Limited Trim.

Yup. Every I5 AWD is over $50k and the Limited is about $58k in the cheapest colors to $58-60k for an extra cost color with lots of accessories.

you can find them at MSRP - you just have to have a timeframe that you are willing to wait for it. And the limited is certainly up there pricewise...
