Thank you for this long term BEV review! The Mach-E has a recall on its battery pack contactors fusing closed. On a traditional golf cart BEV the physical contactors taking the form of relays are an emergency disconnect in series with FET technology transistors that can fail fully on causing the vehicle to go full throttle with no shutoff. A lot of Mach-E owners have complained of software driven aspects of the car becoming troublesome after six months. Touch screen malfunctions . . . What has happened to kill new Mach-E sales is the Tesla model Y has come down in price so much that for a little more sacrifice a month than a Mach-E people can have Tesla Model Y that does everything better with a long prospect of some retained value. They are both compact crossover SUVs with the Model Y being signifiantly better handling. The rough ride of the Model Y has an aftermarket retrofit from suspension performance firm. The retrofit has much better ride with better handling and less body roll. The trade off is likely less payload weight capacity. An SUV is a bit of a truck. The Mach-E with every upgrade kit and a super low used car price with a known DIY service ability might make for a reliable 3rd car. BEVs don't make for universal primary-use used cars because those buyers likely don't have at home charging, living in apartments and houses with on street parking. Even as a 3rd car a BEV has a charging issue because it is likely parking at the curb rather the prized spots in the garage or driveway where the homeowner can have charging hookups. That makes BEVs have much more of a fall in value than an ICE car when trying to be resold as a primary-use used car. Another issue is current BEVs have poor cold weather battery chemistry that benefits greatly from being stored in a garage typical of upper level luxury cars. Teslas appear to have an industrial life span in that they will never likely fall or rust apart with the ability to be fixed with difficulty and expense. That being said the main Tesla models are compacts models Y and 3 without the refined driving characteristics of a BMW i5 or or the roomy interior for four large adults with high comfort, fantastic ride and good drive of the Ford Lighting long range pickup. BEVs are not good economical buys at this point of early adoption. For the car enthusiast the Tesla Model S Plaid track package for a daily driver and occasional track day is very attractive and actually looks like a buy at about $100,000 as high as that is. At this time CATL has announced its new condensed BEV battery with 500 Wh/kg energy/mass density almost twice the current commercial BEV battery energy/mass density. Stating it should be in production for automotive use by the end of 2024. Its primary target market is aviation propulsion which would allow a price per kWh of storage many times what is commercially viable for the automotive market.

But it is a full sized truck to drive around. Good for minor towing. Plenty of power and fun to drive for the cost. I don't want to spend $80k on a vehicle. Just don't know if it'd last without issues for long. It's not like either of her Kias were without issues, she's never had a bug free car, I think she's cursed; BUT she could take those Kias and Neons and other to any mechanic to get them at least running if not fixed.

I own a ford Mach e and a Tesla y and I did have to change the shocks to teins to get that comfortable ride. Cost me 600 bucks and have it set to ten clicks in the front and 12 in the rear. Rides like a dream now Surprised you didn’t mention the mustang Mach e ride which is, imo, as bad or worse than the Tesla Y with the factory shocks. I feel like I’m really screwed with the ford because there isn’t a “budget solution” to fix the ride like there is with the Tesla.

Stop it, the Mach is just fine. We have 2
@joetz16 ай бұрын
@@19coyote5oh9 what do you mean by fine? Do you live in a part of the country where the road is as smooth as a pool table? The suspension is underdamped and is extremely bouncy, especially if the timing of the bumps is such that you induce an oscillating motion. The rear is much worse than the front The only solution I’m aware of is KWs coilovers but they are pricy at more than 3 grand. There isn’t much else that can be done at a reasonable price

@joetz1 I live in Montreal, probably one of the worse city's in North America for road quality! We go through -30 to +30 every year, so our roads are extra amazing...... So stop with the under dampped/over damped crap. There is nothing wrong with the suspension setup. If you wanted even better damping, you should have got the magna ride option princess.
@joetz16 ай бұрын
@@19coyote5oh9 you are the first owner I have ever met who thinks there is nothing wrong with the suspension. The Mach e has the worst suspension tuning of any modern car I have ever driven. I am curious about what else you have driven if you think the damping is acceptable

Owner of a 2021 Tesla Model Y and I agree about the ride quality. Let’s just say that I own a 2001 BMW Z3 that I have set up to be used on a track and that thing rides better over bumps, no lie. The Model Y’s suspension tuning is absolutely head scratching bad. Like what the actual f**k Tesla. That thing needs to be 40-50% SOFTER easily. Big fail and if I wasn’t so close to paying it off, I’d trade it in for literally anything else. Even if it’s just a newer Model Y

Fake news! You ABSOLUTELY DID NOT buy a Rivian R1T quad-motor Launch Edition for LESS than the cost of a Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat (not unless you got some sort of fantastic discount on your Rivian that wasn’t made available to anyone else). Remember … Rivian RAISED THE PRICE … even on pre-orders … and then back-pedaled due to all the flack they got for it (they still raised the price … but they eventually honored the price for those who had a pre-order in before the price increase). These are two trucks I watched CLOSELY. I _really_ liked the Rivian IF you could set aside the price tag. But the price tag WAS the problem. It was not available as a dual-motor initially … only quad-motors for the Launch Edition (or … at any edition at time of launch). The problem was that its base price for ANY Rivian with a quad-motor was near the top of what you could pay for a fully-spec’s F-150 lightning. Meanwhile… the F-150 Lightning started at around $40k and I think the Platinum edition was just a little over $90k. The least you could pay for a Rivian R1T (base model) started at around $80k. So if you’re thinking your Lightning Lariat cost more than a Rivian R1T Launch Edition … then your memory isn’t working.

I'm just getting this video for some reason but I don't know what price the f-150 you mentioned was. We got our 2022 r1t quad with off road pkg and powered tonneau for $78,500 @ pre-order price. I believe I remember them getting the pre order price as well.

Model y performance suspension is bad but man the lrawd is incredible for the price and really rides way quieter and smoother than previous years. I have a 22 model y performance and a 24 model y lrawd and it's night and day in ride quality. It's not the wheel and tires but the coilovers so you can fix it if you're willing to swap coilovers

I appreciate your reviews of BEV's, I also like them but they are not for me. 300 mile range BEV's only make 200 miles on the freeway - there are not enough high speed chargers in rural areas due to such limited range. They work great for local driving/commuting, but if you are off the beaten path, you will likely either end up being towed or spending the night at level 2 charging.

The looks thing does have some merit, as Ford did not design a unique body for this truck so it doesn’t really stand out from the crowd. From the side it looks like any other F150. Assuming they worked out the bugs, it looks like an excellent EV for those that need a real work truck.

8:15 - just saw a couple 2 hours ago at my local EVGO station with a new Blazer EV (still had temp tags) they seem to be happy with it so it didn't even cross my mind to ask of they had experienced any problems yet (i just assumed everything had been sorted with the infamous Edmunds Car). with everybody out enjoying the first day of Summer the station was completely full once i pulled in: so it was the aforementioned Blazer, an BMW I5 E40, two Chevy Bolts, one Bolt EUV, an Audi E-tron SUV, and a Nissan Ariya. then 20 minutes in a Kia EV6, a Platinum F150 Lightning, and a Toyota BZ4X joined the party.

The Blazer EV looks like a Bolt EUV, but wider and longer; then has a _gigantic_ pointless console to waste all the extra space. And of course its literally twice the price. But it does charge 3x as fast. Which is still slow by today's standards, why didnt they make it competitive? And who needs a motor (that can break) to s-l-o-w-l-y open the charge door instead of just popping it open in 1/2 second with your hand?

How about the Silverado EV which is leaps and bounds above the Ford truck? Your bias is a good reason to ignore Edmunds reviews.

Weird hearing a comparison between the R1T and lightning being looks (subjective) and price (misleading). Market value of the launch edition was well over 100k when those were out. Rivian even tried to raise the price at the start. And looks? The rivian look is polarizing as well. I like how both look. You say the good thing about the lightning is that it is just a truck but then looks boring. The bmw looks boring as do the Teslas. Prices for the Rivian now are comparable or higher than a lightning. 80s for a dual motor large pack.

Like the "early build" Lucid Air, the Blazer is an early build. They have updates (over the air I believe) that fixed many issues. I'm not saying it is a great SUV. I like the styling and it has potential. I would NEVER buy a first year out auto. GM really needs to do better.

Disappointed with the limited coverage of electric vehicles. Of the 10 best selling EV vehicles in Canada you only touched on 3. With the exception of the Tesla you missed all the best sellers, such as the Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, VW and Audi. For future testing why not check the top seller EV list and purchase those models. Not that it is worth anything when comparing vehicles other than I know two people that bought the Ford Lightening and both have got rid of them with nothing but complaints. One has a Rivian and so far very happy with the vehicle. Other waiting for the Chev electric pickup.

I have a Model 3P ('22) and would absolutely buy it again, but I'll go for a Model S LR or Plaid next time because I am now sold on the brand, and I want the additional space. I'm happy with the speed of the M3P but more is always welcome haha. I've spent plenty of seat time in a rented Y LR and I didn't encounter any of the issues you talked about, but this one had the 20" wheels and I thought the ride was decent. However, being used to the driving dynamics of my M3P, I could not help but notice the Y felt clumsy and awkward in comparison. I came away from my 3 day stint with it realizing I would never want to own one. My bro in law had a Mach E dual motor for a year and it bricked...Ford ended up buying it back. FWIW and YMMV.

I prefer buttons and knobs, and I think the screen should be for navigation only. I don't hear reviews on the voice commands for navigation, I think there needs to be improvement on voice recognition. I've driven several cars with this ability and all have been lacking, and more pain than its worth. Also, too many cars come out with all black interiors, which is awful. Where is the beige, tan, shades of grey, blue, and white.
