Awesome. I had a FWD RAV4 in college. Salvage title, smelled like death when the temp rose above 80 outside... but there was blood on the dash when I bought it sooooo... anyway, looking forward to following this project!

I just bought a 1997 Rav4 L on FB marketplace( guess that means luxury) for $750 with 202k on the odometer. I'm hoping I didn't get suckered its gonna need a new battery, transmission seems to shift ok but the back power windows roll down extremely slow. I like how it sits up higher but still drives like a car and I love the big windows

Please, please! I just purchased the same year (but manual and short) - how do I recognize the type of rear diff? I'm very suspicious mine has LSD too, because it crawls everything even without the center diff lock engaged. Thank you.
@positv3335 жыл бұрын
i got a mostly all original 96 rav4 with 214k miles for 1400 bucks been my first car ever since hvac doesn't work, blower motor died, damn thing smells like something is burning all the time radiator has gunk in it, might be old coolant but i'm sure the oil might be mixing mine leaks oil too i think it's a rear main seal i dump a bottle of blue devil rear main sealer in and it stops leaking so much my exhaust fell off the flex pipes burn off easily so i've been driving on just the manifold and a burnt piece of flex pipe that is stuck on the newer rav4s still have tires on the back, i have an original hard cover case w/ lock 236k miles and it's still running threw new tires, battery, starter, brakes, and a radiator cap on it and keeping a good filter and dumping oil in it constantly still runs well enough

@brokuly80846 жыл бұрын
How do you verify if a RAV4 has the LSD? Information online is sparse and most forums just go on and on about how it never existed until someone brings up how rare it is and shows that it was a listed option.
@misamisatv5 жыл бұрын
the easiest way to find out is with an icy patch of street. if both wheels spin when you floor it then you have lsd
@cameronnorton58984 жыл бұрын
Just floor it in gravel and if you get one tire track, it's an open diff; if theres two it's lsd

Please forgive my middle-aged perspective but why ruin it with modifications? Just hand it over to a famous KZbin mechanic and have it restored to its former glory with genuine Toyota parts. Fun Fact: this generation of RAV4 was about one foot shorter than the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe.
