Cap wielding and using Mjolnir was one of the best scenes in the MCU! It was sooo cool to watch it! Now it's odd that Thor with Mjolnir and Stormbreaker seems to have so much difficulty fighting Thanos without Gauntlet, the only possible reason I can think of is the current Thor, while still have his powers, isn't as physically or mentally strong as the previous Thor.

That's a little iffy. Odin had plenty of secrets. So keeping secrets from his family wouldn't make him unworthy if he was put to a similar test. No, the true test is being your own person and doing what you think is right, instead of "just following orders." There could be other people with superpowers who are pure of heart, but perhaps follow wicked men, not realizing obedience is not in itself a virtue. Neither El Cid of Spain nor Jeanne d'Arc of France chose to step up and be the ruler of their country, despite being victorious in battle, but instead followed those who were unworthy to lead.
