Im 20 years old, and all of a sudden recently I began thinking about dying and stuff, I don't want to die, I have been paranoid about it for the last 3 days.. We've all been there. Certainly since early childhood for me. My very first fear of OLD AGE anxiety attack FIRST occurred on my 13th birthday, because I then suddenly realized - I am now a teenager for the very first time! Fear-of-aging (which is separate from but certainly can overlap with fear of death) anxiety attacks never happened on my birthday, but on random times in my life: when I turned about 30.5, and I got desperate for a girlfriend in 1994, and again about 41.5, in November 2005. A SEVERE depression about the passage of time & nostalgia. That said, my mind has mostly (most of the time) refocussed on an INTENSE curiousity to scientifically explore & study death, much like that cool 1990 movie "Flatliners", whose basic plot I pondered to myself long before 1990.

Wonder Boy yea that's crazy I been recently thinking bout it too and I just turned 39 and never thought about it before. Do some searches for out of body experiences or NDE's. there's soooooooo many people who can describe in great detail what they saw and some things they couldn't have seen or known otherwise. I feel these millions of testimonies is at the very least, evidence for an afterlife of some sort. I've heard good theories like our brains are like a radio receiver and the "YOU" yer personality etc is the signal that only your brain is tuned to receive. Yea sounds nuts I know but do some research on astral projection. The shit is real but not fully explained by science yet. Anyway, you'll eventually get habituated to that fear and it won't bother you as much anymore

We will never know the real answer till we die. But I will tell you a story that will make you think hard tonight... We had a aunt in Mexico die in the 80's and we couldn't go to the funeral because in Mexico they do funerals quick. So we missed it and had no knowledge of it. Few years later My uncle was rushed to the hospital because of his appendix. Just before the operation his appendix exploded, and he died on the operation table. He said he saw a white light of a women in a beautiful white wedding dress. As she got closer he saw it was his aunt that died! She looked like a bride. She reached out for his hand and before he could hold it, she backed out and said"oh... I just found out it isn't your time." And disappeared. He then woke up in the hospital room healing. He called his family in Mexico about the vision he had, and when my uncle described that she was wearing a wedding dress, there was silence. They said, "how did you know she was buried in her wedding dress when you weren't even here?" No one ever told him. My family including myself have had spiritual events happen to us. And yes I believe in God and always will. He is what fills me and gets rid of fear. After what has happen to us with unexplainable events, how can we not believe?

My grandma is almost immortal she got hit by a bus and should've died but she lived, before that when she was a kid she pretty much died but she lived, then she got stabbed in the back by a cabinet and while she was half alive and half dead she saw the land in the middle of heaven and hell and she described it as a beach. I hope everything is fine with you now...I have the exact fear and I have thenataphobia...But let me tell you...dying wont hurt that much as the fear of dying would hurt you. Acceptance is the key. Convince yourself that there is nothing bad in being impermanent. By panicking or being in denial we are just wasting our beautiful time with our precious ones. If you think about death all the time it is consuming you even before you die. Spend time with your loved ones, click pictures, and record their voices. You have lots of time now. And believe me, as we grow up we learn to let go and the fear of death goes away. Thats why old people are not much scared of death. Best wishes for you

Same here I used to get so scared I would cry myself to sleep but recently I have been telling myself that I will be born again in another body and have all my memories form my current life erased and that this has happened to me countless times before aswell. if you're feeling freaked out about death just look at it this way. You didn't exist for billions of years before you were born. This didn't trouble you one bit because you were not conscious of the fact you didn't exist. Now when you die, you will have no way of perceiving time, a bit like when you're asleep. So when you die billions if not trillions of years will go by in an instant. If you agree that the universe is finite and will one day end, then you can say when you die so does the universe.

Hey y’all. I searched this here on KZbin and I’m actually happy that I’m not the only one thinking about death. Especially recently with the world going crazy and all this COVID-19 going around. Kind of paranoid about it. It’s been so bad for me I drove myself to recent anxiety attacks now taking Ativan the minute it gets dark. Smh. Hopefully one day the fear will go away. But I always say to myself, “if Jesus went through all of that pain and died, then who am I to not want to go through pain and die?” My fear is that I don’t be right with God and that I’ll burn in Hell forever. So everyday I try to do good and the minute I make a mistake I ask for forgiveness. I’m so paranoid about life and death recently. I hope that myself and everyone on this thread gets over this horrible fear. ❤️

I’m afraid to die, yeah I’m only 15 I’ve got my whole life ahead of me but it doesn’t matter what I do, I’ll be like everyone else and get buried in some hole and covered in dirt, I sound greedy but I want to live forever because I want to be alive when humans colonize other plants and travel the cosmos, out of our solar system. It sucks ive been born in a time period like this. But then when I think about it, I am grateful, I have a chance to prove myself and possibly help future generations achieve the goal I wholeheartedly want to witness and that I can say is good enough. Doc, im a young kid. ive never had to worry about money issues or anything truly because i grew up in a really rich family, i was always care free and the nicest person you could choose out of my entire 7th grade class to hang out with and make you laugh. A Week or two ago my family rented an rv for vacation and a long story short, we had to return due to my dads lung conditions. i have older parents than most my friends and never though was worried about them since they seemed ok. but the night in the rv my dad said he was having trouble breathing it was hard for me to think straight and there was only a specific set of words that i couldnt stop hearing that night. ``this is the day your dad leaves you.`` he made it out fine but i didnt sleep for 3 days until i forced myself to take a couple more sleeping pills than intended. since then i could only worry about the 3, losing my parents, losing my friends, and them losing me. every day felt like a week and every week felt like a year and so on. this book helped me alot and i know when i grow old and move out to find a job and such i wont fear much because your book helped me. you have a heart of sapphire, brain of gold and bones of tungsten and dont let anybody say otherwise

Almost every night I stop and think about death and how it can be so terrible. I'm scared because I think that when I die I'm basically asleep forever which just makes me feel awful inside. But I also think about how it happens so often and only a few seem to care or take a moment to think about it. One more thing that gets me is how I will die, if love to be with my family and die peacefully. It's sad to think that as we get older life gets harder.

Ok listen. Most of you in the comment still are kids. Im young too im 20 and I already see this from another perspective. Death isnt something dark. Death is what make life matter. It makes you strong thinking that you live once do what you want no regrets it up to you. If time wasnt a thing nothing would matter. Imagine being on summer vacation for 3 years...most the time would be sleep and straight up boredness. But now that its 3 months you go for trips you organize stuff with friends to have fun. If that makes you feel any better I can guarantee to you that you ll get over it in a few years. Its only natural dont worry. You think a lot about the after death stuff. Dont . First of all time doesnt exist. That forever forever you say doesnt exist. Its like you sleep for hours but you dont know it when you wake up. But if you dont wake up you never know. Ok, it's truth time. You shouldn't fear death any more than you fear sleep, because death is probably sleep. You will go back to where you were before you were born, was that bad? Ok, so you don't know what it was like before you were born, neither do I. Before you were born you knew nothing, and after you die you will go back to knowing nothing. Don't fear sleep, because sleep is not bad. No hunger, no fear, no crying etc. And don't forget, we ALL go back to sleep, so when I get the news that I'm dying, I instantly know that everyone is dying, I'm just dying a little sooner than some people, and a little later than others. Plus, what are you going to miss that you've not already seen?

I always think of this when my mind is rushing at like 12am in bed. Like what if there is no after life and it's just eternal darkness that goes on forever ever ... or i'm reborn again in a different body endlessly until the sun explodes? then what . I've been very ill and doctors don't know what's wrong with me. Ive been rapidly losing weight no matter how much I eat, I have complications with my digestive system and immune system, and even though I have not been told it's fatal, it still could be since they haven't yet identified what's wrong. I used to be suicidal and not scared of death...but now, as a woman about to be married and who has finally found happiness and purpose in life, I'm terrified of dying. I have panic attacks about it. Just a sore throats or headache makes me wig out and want to go to the ER. This illness thingy I've got has made me a complete hypochondriac. No matter how much I try to take my mind off it, there's still a great fear of death. I believe that once you die, that's it. Lights out, like an eternal dreamless sleep. I don't see a scientific explanation to how anything else could be proven possible: I so wish an afterlife existed, I don't think I am anywhere near ready to die.

When a person dies (this is all according to Bible) they will be judged on what they've done by God. You have two options- try and face the judge yourself, or let Jesus take all the blame for you. If you trust Jesus to save you (he will) then you will allowed into Heaven because he already took your punishment. If not, then you have to serve the punishment yourself forever in that terrible place. It's easy to be saved, your choice now

I believe in god. I’m catholic. But I’m the back of my mind I always think to myself. If their is nothing and it’s just pitch black and I can’t feel anything. It terrifies me. And another thing that scares me is when you die you don’t have a physical form. Meaning that when the soul leaves the body it’s just kinetic energy. So when you go into heaven how are you suppose to see the people you love or even speak to them. I’m almost 15 now but I have a girlfriend that I have been together for a very long time now and I do want to spend the rest of my life with her. That’s how committed I am. But if we both have no physical form that means I won’t be able to hear, see, touch, or feel her ever again. And that makes me so sad and terrified. If heaven means that I’m alone and I can’t see any of the people I love the most that is like a hell to me. And I love my girlfriend so much. She is the only thing that makes me happy anymore. Losing her and being alone in heaven will be misery. Also when you vow “till death do us part” that mean that when you die. You and the person you have been married to will separate for eternity. Which also terrifies me. I wouldn’t be able to see her every again. Or hear her voice. That keeps me up at night. I’m scared

But this year got really bad I started watching shows about not wasting life and characters that just can't die. and I keep hearing people say enjoy life to the fullest and don't let it slip by and that isn't helping every day I think about how EVERYONE is going to die and I start crying, I really want to know what's after death so that I'll feel better I really hope it's a paradise with everyone who has ever died where you can have what ever you wanted in life but never got. I started thinking about death and what was after when I was 8. I understood a lot more than what I should’ve when I was eight. I would always cry in the shower thinking about losing my parents and my brother. When I was nine, I started to stop thinking about it and coming up with reasons to not fear death. When I was ten, I had slight depression and I would cry almost every night. But one day, I thought ‘why am I spending my life thinking about what is after life? I need to spend my life with everything I had, I only got one chance after all.’ So I did just that. What is even worse if your family dying before you. That’s why I want to die before all of them do. I’m eleven and I’m not saying that I want to die, I don’t. But I don’t want to go through the pain of watching my family die. Live your life to the fullest, you never know when your going to pass away. Always forgive a family member after an arguement. You never know when they are going to pass away.

Hi Significant, I was 13 when my grandfather died.That was my first experience with the death of someone close. I was scared to die up until I was 28. I tell the story in my book. There is existence after death. No one ceases to exist. But they do leave their body. That's because you (the real you) are a soul. We've all been there. Certainly since early childhood for me. My very first fear of OLD AGE anxiety attack FIRST occurred on my 13th birthday, because I then suddenly realized - I am now a teenager for the very first time! Fear-of-aging (which is separate from but certainly can overlap with fear of death) anxiety attacks never happened on my birthday, but on random times in my life: when I turned about 30.5, and I got desperate for a girlfriend in 1994, and again about 41.5, in November 2005. A SEVERE depression about the passage of time & nostalgia. That said, my mind has mostly (most of the time) refocussed on an INTENSE curiousity to scientifically explore & study death, much like that cool 1990 movie "Flatliners", whose basic plot I pondered to myself long before 1990. My mathematics, my math research & math modeling research, with a particular interest in mathematically modeling the world from atoms up, and exactly solving nonlinear differential equations, makes me wonder about the hard problem in consciousness quite a bit. Why can't ANY random collection of atoms, sufficiently "complex", become conscious?? That nagging thought makes me question & doubt the notion that minds can exist only inside physical bodies. Why can't my mind exist 5 cm outside my head?

As an atheïst, I believe there is nothing after death; it is the only logical thing to believe. Anything supernatural we experience after death is simply our brain activity surging when we die. After that, we won't know we're dead; we can't, because we won't have consciousness. So in a way, we'll have eternal life; we will lose all perception of time, so we'll never actually stop perceiving life in our minds, even though in reality, we will. So dying does not scare me. Not being alive, however, is something that scares me more than anything. I believe it is the only thing we should all be afraid of. Why? It's not like it was terrifying not to be alive before we were born. True! And the scary part is returning to not existing after having had a conscientious mind. And this is also the reason why a fear of not living is essential to enjoying life. That is why no one should say "don't fear death"; it's a by-product of having this amazing existence that we fear its end. Yet everything that has a beginning, must have an end. So enjoy the gift of life, that was created against all odds to somehow create your mind as it is now, and be grateful you got to have it.
