I just want to say that "high" cholesterol does NOT cause heart disease. It's when cholesterol becomes oxidized that problems can result. How does this happen? Well, for one thing excessive carbs, which create free radicals, which then attack lipid cells, oxidize and kill them and they then crash into arterial walls causing damage. Every single cell in your body is made partially of cholesterol. If you were not able to produce cholesterol, you would die. Cholesterol is not the culprit here. The cholesterol scam is huge money for big pharma. Cholesterol lowering drugs such as statins lower cholesterol by poisoning your cells and preventing them from replicating. Less cells that produce, among other things, cholesterol, the less cholesterol in your blood stream. Statins kill you one cell at a time and big pharma knew this way before in was approved by their friends, the FDA. Take a statin and you'll increase your chances of getting type 2 diabetes, memory loss and brain malfunction, kidney disease, muscle issues, cataracts, and the list goes on. Don't take my word for it, do your own research.

I’ll let my local lab take my blood tests, no thank you. For everyone skeptical about the Keto Diet and your cholesterol: I was diagnosed about 14 months ago with a Severe Fatty Liver & Hemochromatosis. I have since lost 115lbs. My total Cholesterol has come down from the 200’s to 159. My triglycerides are now 85 - was 140, my HDL is now 53 - was 32, my LDL was 120 - now 85, my VLDL is 17 (well within range). My Fatty Liver is gone. I’ve lost over 20” on my waist. I now weigh 206lbs. My Ferritin - indicator of Hemochromatosis - has gone from 4580 to below 800 now - I get tested in December again. About 14 months ago I was looking down the road at a Liver Transplant. I’m back to work now, and feeling way better, sleeping less, more active than ever, and fit in clothes I haven’t fit in since High School. So - PLEASE - do not go the Gastric Bypass, or the “Stomach Sleeve” route - this diet is totally doable and enjoyable. Oh - and my blood pressure used to be about 145/90 - it’s now 110/60 and my resting heart rate is about 51.

I was researching cholesterol tests because I am reading Dr. Esselstyn’s book “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease”. I am new to all of this but his book says that meat, dairy, and oil is the cause of high cholesterol and that a whole food plant-based diet has brought his patients cholesterol levels (who were in the 200s and 300s) to less than 150 mg/dL. Is the meat and dairy in the Keto diet the possible cause of Keith’s high cholesterol levels?

I have been keto since May of 2018 (lost 50 lbs) and have had high triglycerides>400 on every lipid test since I started on the diet. I am a big coffee drinker (French press, espresso, turkish) and have recently eliminated cream from these to see if it has an effect in improving my lipid test. I have also come across articles on Google stating that the unfiltered coffee methods that I use allow for oil soluble diterpines cafestol and kaehwol in my coffees which are proven to increase LDL and triglycerides in people. Apparently brew methods that use paper filters are exempt because the paper traps most of these diterpines and keeps them out of the extraction. I hate to also give up my preferred brews. Maybe I will order one of these machines and do some trials on my own to see if my coffee is having a significant impact on my numbers.

I have been on a strict Keto diet 13 months, lost 50 lbs in first 8 months, maintaining weight around 135 lbs. for the last 5 months. I have always had high cholesterol 350+. According to my brother (Phd in nutrition) and worked at a drug research company and worked in cholesterol research. Our family has a genetic make-up that develops a diet and drug resistant type of hyper-Cholesterol later in life. My blood pressure is around 107/65 and resting heart rate at 47-56 ( exercised most of my life and have taught karate for a number of yrs). In the last month I have changed from the regular keto diet to a "healthy" that has keto 7-10 cups of greens per day. We will see in 6 months what that does. Thirty years ago my mom was on for 6 months per vegetarian diet and her cholesterol moved 2 points, that puzzled the doctors back than.
@Constans994 жыл бұрын
Keith & Becky.... seeing as how most of your markers are healthy, there's probably no concern about the high total cholesterol. From what I've learned, total cholesterol is a weak risk factor for CVD, and really meaningless, other than it usually indicates a lower than average all-cause mortality rate due to the vital role of cholesterol in immune functionality and other body functions. You're smart to keep an eye on it and get the NMR test to make sure your LDL is Pattern A. Thanks again for an interesting video.

Cool meter there. High total cholesterol don't mean anything if TG is 40, BMI below 21 and Fasting glucose in normal range. I stopped worrying about that 8 months ago. As of this morning, TC 409 TG62, HDL65, LDL 289, and fasting glucose at 75. I used my Curo L7 to measure all of that. I feel better than ever so it is what it is. It's not a function of being unlucky. Everyone on a ketogenic diet will see an increase in their LDL when they have reached their appropriate/healthy body fat percentage. At that point, you will have low insulin, low triglycerides, elevated ketones, LDL pattern A, normalized blood pressure, and high HDL.

THANK YOU for calling it an ANALYZER. (Not a "machine"...my Med Tech pet peeve). Cholesterol testing precision at that level is not great with the lab analyzers either...not an absolute, exact value. This is why people have to be careful interpreting whether there is a significant change in values.

I think people mainly use to see the different sizes of LDL (99% of doctors believe is bad, but it is not if no inflation is present)?
