Hoping and looking forward to when Omega makes this Chronograph in the previous 41.5 dimension. Along with these new pivoting end links, would LOVE to see Omega pull off a thickness of under 15mm in a new smaller version (frankly, under 14mm and it would sell very strong). Not certain if they shot themselves in the foot with this new movement and we are all stuck with the daunting task of wearing this as a daily with the over 17mm thickness(not for me). I believe the previous 41.5 Chrono was 16.8mm thick. Again, that is simply too thick for 98% of us. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see. There's always the 3 hander with a much more reasonable size/proportion. With a new 41.5 version, I would like to see this silver dial color mated with a black ceramic bezel and black sunken chrono dials.

I had to show him that it existed, and how to use it. So your point about the general public only buying chronographs because of the look of the dial is fairly spot on. Many don't care about the functionality and engineering, and some don't even know that you can have a stopwatch that's not digital.
@nicerides9224 Жыл бұрын
I know what the chronograph is but I never used mine on watches that had it either. Same with the dive bezels on dive watches. Like pretty much everyone I bought it because it looks good. I got to thinking if I don't use the feature on a watch then I don't want it on the watch. I still like a watch to be waterproof to at least 100m but I don't need a dive bezel or a chronograph I'll never use. Just the standard 3 hands and maybe a date.

Then keep looking as the video moves on to the hand on the minute subdial, see the pitting and uneven paint? True, these are small flaws, but a Daytona is expensive at retail, and eye-wateringly expensive if you pay the massive premium over retail for a second hand piece, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a better level of finishing for your money. As an omega owner , and not at all a rolex fanboy, I have to say Yes, this Rolex IS BETTER than the omega. A watchmaker’s prowess lies in the ability to engineer all the components in as compact a package as possible. I’m not impressed with all of omega’s blows and whistles if it is fitted in hockey puck on the wrist. Omega loses big time here on that premise alone. Omega needs to get back to the drawing board and start engineering and designing compact movements in compact wearable cases, and they have the ability to do so.

Awesome review. Well spoken, clean clear and crisp. I came to the revelation almost a year ago before finding your videos, I started looking at Zenith and realizing the true value of a Zenith. Just 2 weeks ago I realized the Omegas provide exceptional value as they have started having in house movements. Anyway thanks for your well made views. And would you be kind to review the Aqua Terra Chronograph GMT 231.10.43.52.03.001 vs Daytona

If by "age", you mean patina, then the Omega won't get it. It uses a ceramic dial which prevents a patina from developing. So in 20 years time, it'll still look new.

Question: Is the Omega still water resistant when the chronograph is used underwater? I imagine the Omega has screw down buttons.

I have a speedy bought second hand. market. Best watch I see in the wild. Not crazy about the Daytona. The Newman was a flop until it wasn’t. The new Omegas went ceramic on the bezel. It’s cool with the wave dial but not worth 5k Hard to know where the industry is going against wearable tech. My speedy gets limited wrist time working from home.

I don't think any mechanical watch can complete with a G-shock for durability. Particularly a digital G-Shock. Lovely watch though. I wonder how rugged the co-axial movement is compared to a more traditional lever escapement.
@FoxThePainkiller4 жыл бұрын
The point is that everyone wants Rolex. That the reason for a high price. Omega is trying to rise making great watch, technically better than Rolex and maybe even better looking, and sell those better watch for a lower price. It is pure marketing, supply and demand. And please do not forget that for a Patek Philippe chrono you need to pay more than 70k euro and those are all wort. I own both Rolex (Submariner) and Omega (Planet Ocean 600) and thr Planet Ocean is my favourite watch I wear everyday wherever I may go, even at a beach. But when I wear a suit I prefer Rolex, just because it is like a piece of a uniform, something that is aspected to be seen at the wrist kf somone wearing a suit. That's all.

Don't think I'm going to take advice from someone wearing a divers watch with a suit.
@kronikinsomniak4 жыл бұрын
@@nomansland120 barely anyone who wears divers actually dive. That is an irrelevant point. Remember we are talking about mechanical luxury watches here, it's a hobby. Go buy a Casio or use your smart phone if you actually care about technical details.
@nomansland1204 жыл бұрын
@@kronikinsomniak That's not the point. My point is that if someone wears a "dive watch" with a "suit" he clearly isn't capable of making logical decisions, hence I wouldn't take his advice. It's the equivalent of wearing a dress-watch when you go diving. Sure you could, but you really shouldn't.

I own a seamaster and I do love it. For me, Omega would sell more if they changed the bracelet. When compared to the Oyster bracelet, the omega lacks elegance- IMO.
@escanor99202 жыл бұрын
Allow me to disagree my friend, the Seamaster bracelet is elegant, strongly built and very masculine ! It has also the fine adjustment setting inside the clasp, awesome bracelet for a tremendous watch ! On top of that the Omega is perhaps one of the only luxury watch designed to "handle real life" like a Casio G-shock, (also dwarfing the Daytona which looks like a child's watch), while remaining an exceptional art work piece. 😁
@rickyoo52332 жыл бұрын
idk....I love the bracelet. Especially how it gives you additional room to stretch out. I wanted to get the rubber straps but after seeing it and trying it at the boutique....You can't go wrong with that Omega bracelet. That was actually the only thing I was definite about, My only complaint about the watch would be weight. Quite heavy...but the watch is a looker, compliments all day!

I'm old enough to remember when Rolex was just a good tool watch and I am firmly in the belief that they are still a good tool watch and not the high horology brand that they are now trying to market themselves as. They talk about having in house movements but their movements are still manufactured by the same company that always supplied their movements i.e. Egler all Rolex did was buy the company rather than just putting the Rolex name on the Egler company building in their brochures and it's not the case that I am down on Rolex I own a few but I refuse to buy now for the simple reason that they are price gouging and the false scarcity that they use now as a marketing ploy I still remember the days that I could negotiate a good discount for a new Rolex and I even remember in the 1970's when I was trying to buy a gold datejust for my father and when I was hesitating the AD offered to sweeten the deal by throwing in a Daytona for free but that was in the days that nobody was buying, everyone that wanted a chronograph wanted an Omega. Back to the point their watches are no better built, except for the technology, than they always were. They are still just a good tool watch maker and nothing else.
