People who want to pick on this truck always point out the 13-17MPG... that is just the best that a medium displacement, naturally aspirated V8 can do with massive torque & HP. Turbocharging smaller engines is just going to give a truck higher maintenance and repair cost over the long term... and the 2-3MPG that you Might gain is really a wash if your spending $.60 more per gallon for running premium fuel like you should if your driving a forced induction engine... This truck will be out Going Places while the more complex truck engines will be wasting your time & money in the shop. It’s a very modern advanced V8 with DOHC 32v VVT-i. This is just as good as a truck power train can be! And the Transmission pairing... ok maybe an 8-speed could help it buy another 1-2 MPG but this 6-Speed shifts butter smooth and responds to driver input with instant downshifts and intuitive upshifting. If you disagree or hate on the Tundra... Go drive one, then thank me. When it’s got 300k miles with nothing but regular maintenance, You’ll truly understand, and Thank Toyota.

ALL V8's from every maker is within acceptable mpg from each other. Compare V8 to V8 only. If that's the criteria I'll take a Tundra.

I’m enjoying my 2018 SR5 TSS Double Cab. My wife enjoys going on long trips in the truck because it rides so smooth. If you have got to have a lot of gadgets to play with while you are driving then this is not the truck for you. My 2016 Camry had all the gadgets, but I didn’t use a lot of those. Not while driving. I can’t complain about the lack of gadgets in my Tundra. Backseat space is good in the Double Cab. We had four adults in the cab on a 3 hour trips to Dallas. Everybody was comfortable and had plenty of leg room and head room.

Live near the California Coast so I need a truck to pull the camping trailer. Don’t have kids but have a lot of nieces and nephews so it seems it would do the trick. Hope you review more trucks! Pay 50 plus grand for 1794 edition Tundra...lacks remote start and must use key to lock tailgate. No way!
@ksamos
@ksamos 5 жыл бұрын
Having to lock the tailgate with a key is not an issue for me. For me, I do not like prox key entry or push button start. I dont open my tailgate when I'm in the cab, so I have my keys in my hand. All the tech in new vehicles these days leads to hacking. Check into prox key repeaters that theives are using to break into vehicles. They cam sniff your prox key in the house from your front door and use another device near the vehicle to open and start it. So, Tundra's low tech is a security plus.

@Sacapuntas69
@Sacapuntas69 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had a 2008 Limited Crewmax. I have no problem with the new way the seats fold up, it really gives more space, but there is no purpose of the raised floor. There is just foam under there. If it was flat like the F150 it would be much much more useful. And now you can't store anything but possibly a newspaper under the rear seats. And not a very thick one at that. The old style had storage under and behind the seats.

I must say, while not that great of a truck in and of itself, the "threat" of this truck has caused the domestic trucks to step up there game... My brother has this truck and compared to my sierra this doesn't really compete, but ironically every Ram, Ford, and GM driver should be thanking toyota for the empty threat. We all benefited from competition...
@spareparts7630
@spareparts7630 5 жыл бұрын
Please explain how the Tundra doesn't compete with a Sierra. I have a Sierra and I test drove a used Tundra and it felt better in every way. The 5.7 in the Tundra is strong and reliable. The 2014 and newer direct injected GM V8s are not as reliable as the old LS series engines. The 8 speed transmissions in the new GM trucks are notorious for torque converter problems and outright failures. I'm a GM guy but I am very leary about buying a new one. My brother-in-law has a 2002 Tundra and he drives that thing like he hates it. 327,000 hard miles and he hasn't managed to kill it yet. My Sierra has been great and pretty much trouble free but I take very good care of my vehicles. The Tundra I drove felt like an upgrade to me.

Hmmm, Ram offers more trims than Toyota. Having that said, the person doing the comparison contradicts himself. Most buyers will do their research and purchase a truck for what they need it for. Not take the highest Toyota trim and compare it with the lowest Ram trim. The highest Ram trim vs Toyota's highest trim, no comparison from a performance, technology, and luxury amenities. Ram crushes Toyota

Man I wanted a Tundra... bad. If I could wait for the 2020 or 2021 redesign I would. But after kicking the tires I just couldn't do it. Not having anything to tow had a huge impact on my decision because I think I would have picked this over the F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost, which is what I purchased. So after 1300 miles I am hand calculated averaging 21.5mpg. this thing can't get close to that and that is a ton of money per year saved. That golf bag fits under the rear seat of the F150 while a passenger is seated and ya can't do that in the Tundra. I have Android Auto and a modern appearance (SXT) and I paid 31k. The SR5 doesn't compare and good luck finding it under 38k. Toyota needs to bring it.

D.A. Arthur your gonna regret your decision close to the 100k mark if you make it there, that gas money you saved, which gas mileage should never be a decision maker when purchasing a truck, on the 2.7, my friends local shop is seeing alot and I mean 2-3 per week now, turbos on the 2.7 failing, that’s a 7k fix, and he’s seeing starters failing sooner, that’s a $800 fix, start/stop technology sucks, here is my question, how many Toyota Tundras do you see in your local shops around town?
@Acreyman
@Acreyman 6 жыл бұрын
@@FordF-Super I don't think so buddy. The Turbos are $500. And easy to get to. I did the research and didn't listen to the fear mongering most Toyota owners use to justify their purchase. I had a 2016 Tacoma and the thing was in the shop constantly, the Tundra is older and would probably have less issues, but Toyota wasn't the best when it came to customer service honestly. Look it up, the parts are cheap and it's a job that you can do in your garage. Plus I drive less than 10k a year so I am good for 5 years regardless due to the warranty.

I like trucks to perform. Tow my boat, my trailers filled with trees, stone, supplies. I get dirty. Should I pay extra $10,000 for a luxury interior...on my truck? Cover yourself In dirt and sweat for 10 hrs, jump In and start playing with your tech/interior... In 2 hours it will have dirt engrained, scratches, mud, etc. Then have the transmission pop out of park? And electrical problems. Or should I get a toyota? Don't get me wrong, I love rams, used 2500s and 3500s for work for years...beasts. however, moral of the story...different flavors, different people. It’ll probably be a hybrid, as Ford is planning that as well.

Nice truck if you can afford the fuel. Not a family vehicle. Buy a Sienna, it's awesome space, better fuel, in fact we call it our truck with everything we are able to haul. Just have your mulch delivered and you won't need a truck.

I love everything Toyota and for the past 27 years have only purchased Toyota (only 1 car at a time, I am not rich by no means). My dream garage would have a Tundra, Venza, Sienna, and a Prius (funny, being I am a single male). I will say this, my dream car a Toyota Venza Limited, completely blacked, out was totaled when a tree fell on it and myself three years ago. Unfortunately, the tree fell from The City and County, thus they were not responsible for any damages. I miss my Venza, but I do have a great Prius.

An equally equipped tundra will cost thousands less than an f150 or Chevy. Sure, it's not good in gas bit you can AFFORD that gas with the reduced price AND the reliability of a Toyota.

I've seen 40 year old Toyota Trucks in 3rd world countries so overloaded with cargo that it should have been loaded on a semi driving daily on unpaved roads and they aere still just as reliable as the day they were bought. Watch Top Gear's: To kill a Hilux episode to get an idea of how rugged those trucks are. Poor countries and militias will mount a 50 cal or AA guns to the back and literally take them into battle. Meanwhile 95% of F-150s never leave the well paved suburbs and highways and still don't last as long as a Toyota would. .

It's a sorry outdated , cant tow as much as a modern truck or go as far on less fuel. Now wonder in the 11 yrs they might of sold 1 million where ford , Chevy sale almost a million every yr. Because most poeple want a modern truck. The reviewer bought his dad a king ranch f150 if that Carrie's any weight. In not a outdated gas drinking unpowered truck
