Kudos on your dissertation work. Proofread carefully and ask friends and family members in your network to proofread each chapter. I had 10 proofreaders! Keep working on other chapters while they are proofreading. This method is one of the reasons why I received the "Dissertation of the Year Award" from my university in 1998. My Dissertation Committee said that my dissertation was one of the most polished ones that they'd ever read. My network of proofreaders caught errors that I may have overlooked otherwise! Best wishes. Gail L. Thompson, Ph.D.

Hey sis I ordered those loc’ing tools off amazon. The 0.5 one , two and three prongs. I was so excited to redo my locs with the tools. I used the 2 prong to loc the hair in and the one prong to bunt the ends. Took me 4 1/2 hours to do but it was cool because I was relaxing at home and watching tv with my fur babies.😃. I used a setting spray at my roots and placed the clips at my roots. Once I was done at 12:45am I sprayed my hair with a loc’ing and tightening spray. Covered my head of course with my silk scarf and silk bonnet. For the first time I was able to sleep in my clips without them hurting my skull lol. I took the clips out at 8:45am. I really like the end results. Thank you for mentioning to try the loc’ing tools. They are life. My hair is really growing since I have been natural for over a year and with research using hair growth oils and taking a biotin supplement and of course being PATIENT my hair is not just growing but it’s getting thick. Loc’s are perfect for me and my lifestyle. I can’t wait till I’m a year loc’ed. I have watched a lot of utube videos and have learned so much. Thanks again for being the beautiful soul that you are. Now I’m starting to enjoy my loc journey since I understand the different stages and what to expect. 🌹🌹

Hi Alexis I have really missed you. I knew that you must have been busy. You have the most beautiful set of locs girlie. I will be 2 years locked on the 27th. For this year I have been washing my hair once per month and maintaining the roots every other month. I go between interlocking and retwisting. Some of my hair grows outside of the loc and I will probably use the interlocking tool when I retwist in Feb 22. I love your locs and color. Continue to enjoy your journey. Agape

LOL so when I started last year December I swore I wasn't going to interlock and out of nowhere I had hair popping up in places that I didn't even know was bald, and so I found myself gathering up hair to instant lock it and interlock the roots. So now I'm at a point of Never Saying Never. It's crazy, when I started off I thought my hair type was like your mother's, and now my hair is thickening up so much I don't think it is. I just think that my hair has been so damaged, had tension alopecia, hair loss in the crown that has been making it look extremely thinner than what it is. I am 3 months in and I can't wait to see what a year is going to bring at this point, because with the way my hair is filling out and my edges are just filling out so much I am positive I am going to surprise myself with a completely thick head of hair that I would have never expected that would come from out of my scalp. I'm enjoying this actual natural journey and the fact that I am making my own products to not only shampoo my hair but to help it grow and it's actually growing after 38 years of weave wearing 24/7.

Thanks beautiful 😍😍😍 Honestly, I just said “I don’t want them too big or too small” and it all worked out lol it’s like Gloria read my mind or something!

That would be a hard no for me. Who wants to cheat or rush the process of achieving organic and beautiful locs because of vanity, anxiousness and restlessness? Also, why would someone take the risk of disturbing the integrity of their budding or mature locs? I wouldn’t advise or suggest to anyone on their loc journey to alter the process.

@AlexisHarris2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jayden! Thanks for being here and congratulations on your new journey. I actually have tons of videos on locs and I hope you check them out. Here’s a video of how your locs will likely be retwisted if you’re using the palm roll method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2i3hoimdpt7Y6s
@rh59382 жыл бұрын
Nice video💕I've thought about doing this with the tool but I'm concerned about having a thin portion on top of the thicker portions. Do you think that will even out to make uniform locs (in width and texture)?
@AlexisHarris2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for being here and leaving some love! 😊💕 you can use the tool to make uniform locs! I’ll have Gloria show an example the next time she uses it on my locs

Question for the comments, I’m 2 months in my loc journey and my locs are about 3-4 inches. My girlfriend has been retwisting my hair. It’s a learning experience for both of us. I live in an area with less than 2% African American population so I have little options. Question is, should she be retwisting just my roots or should I have her twist the whole loc??
@bettyeames68122 жыл бұрын
Some people retwist the root and palm roll the rest of the loc. Some do not palm roll the loc but I think most do.

So what happens when your hair grows? Will there just be a random super thin spot?
@AlexisHarris2 жыл бұрын
Great question! As your hair grows, the new growth eventually gets “packed” into the rest of the loc. The instant loc tool basically puts loose hair into the loc strand making it one consistent size if done neatly. I hope that makes sense lol
@antonemontgomery69612 жыл бұрын
this is likely what will happen, it may take months to realize it though. Same thing happens when folks randomly decide to interloc instead of palm rolling. It's best to just find what works for you, and stay consistent.

All good! Have you found a good loctician to help? A few things to remember are: 1) keep them hydrated, 2) try rose water and oil, 3) don’t manipulate them too much with styles, and 4) cover them with a silk or satin cap at night 💖
