I’ve owned 4 Jeeps and now I have a 2006 Xterra……..love it!

Well if you’re looking for a manual transmission option the 4Runner is out. And if you’re looking for great reliability, the Jeep’s probably not your best bet. This led me to a 2014 Xterra Pro-4x, 6 speed and I’m completely satisfied with it. After a rough12k mile drive drive around the states it’s sitting with 150k miles and runs great. Hoping to get another 150k out of her.

Just got an R51 - 2008 Nissan Pathfinder V8, 4x4. That 5.6 VK56 simply has no completion in the mid size segment. What an overbuilt beast!

People forget that reliability varies by make AND model, not just by make. Nissan vehicles might not be as dependable as Toyotas overall, but that Xterra is every bit as reliable as the 4Runner. Great engine and trans; those 2nd gen Xterras will go forever.

2012 Pathfinder/2015 Xterra with the VQ engines are THE best value in 4WD vehicles. Nissan's VQ series engines are peppier and more responsive than the 6 cylinder Toyotas. Pathfinder has equivalent storage area as the 4Runner. Engine & Transmissions of that vintage are 95% of Toyota's, at about 50% of the price. In my opinion, the only tangible advantage of Toyota over Nissan for the non-hardcore off-road afficionado, is aftermarket support. If you own a Nissan, there is not a lot of support/resources (relative to Jeep or Toyota), for things like rims, roof racks, steel bumpers, rock rails, etc. LOVE my 2012 Pathfinder.

Great choice. I'm on 5 years of owning 05 xterra 4x4 and still happy about my purchase. Few minor fixes but car solid. Torque is so fun

Was hell bent on gettin a newer 4runner until I stumbled upon an xterra and saw how much cheaper you can pick them up for. Gonna mostly be using it off road and the shorter wheelbase, narrower width and better approach and departure angles are helping sway me over to nissan

I always felt like 4Runner is more comparable with the Pathfinder, and Xterra with FJC.

3rd gen 4runner (1996-2002) had lots of fun little gimmicks as well as the iron block v6 notorious for reaching upwards of 300,000 miles with only basic services. They still hold their value, specifically ones with the 4wd paired with toyotas rear e-locker system.

Pros: I only got my 2001 Xterra because of my familiarity and appreciation for the engine it has (KA24DE). Well, that and it was $550 with only 154K. The most reliable daily I could ask for. Doesn't matter if it's 105F or -5F outside, still starts first time every time. It's an absolute unit in the snow and it's never left me stranded. Even when the manual transmission' countershaft bearings "grenaded" on me, I not only made it home; I made it to the salvage yard (

I would love to interview the person who spends $15,995 on the 2010 Toyota 4Runner. My question is, if your already at 195,000 miles exactly how many more miles do you need to drive to break even on $15,995?
@somethingfishy18023 жыл бұрын
I just bought a 2000 4wd limited 4runner with the e locker option 195,000 miles for 10.5k 😁

The inflated used Toyota prices sent me on a Xterra research binge and what I came to see was that the Nissan had everything I wanted and the prices were “reasonable “. My 2006 xterra with 4x4, auto S trim had 97,000 in excellent condition for $7500. Done. I also enjoy how few of these I see when I’m driving around, must be a big secret.

I’m a frontier owner so I’m gonna say xterra. It’s basic interior with a hidden jewel under the hood. Man those Toyota’s look good tho. Keep is known 2 thrive off road.

If you do more daily regular driving get a 4 runner. If you do more off road get the Xterra. If you have the funds dump both options and get a wrangler.

A year ago, a Pro4x Xterra could be picked up for around $8-11k. Now, I can't find one under $13k with most being $15k+. Its so ridiculous. The 4Runners are even more than that. All with 150k miles or more. What a joke. For that price, I'm getting a GX460 or 470. I'm holding out for a 2014 Xterra Pro4x but I doubt I'll even find one at a reasonable price. I hate this market right now.

I say the Jeep. I have done overlanding trips before and things do get broken form abuse no matter which one you use. Jeep parts are cheaper and more readily available no matter were you might be in the world.
