Thanks for the heads up with the M series run flats. I just go my 25 M50 and was considering changing them mainly because they were runflats and understood that they are more prone to blow out over potholes than traditional tires... Coming into rainy season I'm definitely going to swap them out.

My i4 comes with regular tires but no spare. Can you do a video on how people should handle fixing a flat? I believe my car came with an air pump kit, but if the tire is flat, what good does it do?

@@SoCalMike2 I think the mobility kit would just help you get out of a tricky situation. I personally wouldn’t rely on it too much and would rather get it checked out at a local tire shop to make sure everything is OK I can try to add it to the list to do a video on it. That is quite difficult to find a flat tire so I may just have to wait till I get one on mine knock on wood. :)

The run flat tires on my 2023 X3 MSport loose a little bit of air in about a month. Could it be the weather here in Texas ? By the way, my original tire pressure was set wrong on the tire pressure monitor.

Yes it's normal for the air to fluctuate given the different weather.

I’m counting the miles until I can replace the tires on my ‘24 X5 with non-run flats. If you drive anywhere remote it’s not a good situation. Getting a Modern Spare and some good tires from Discount Tire. Tire Rack is owned by Discount Tire now.

You don't need the star rating ones, those just mean that they are BMW certified but if you get them from aftermarket, they won't be coming with them. Yes you can put on the goodyear's as long as they are the correct size for the rims.

Do you have a video on the process for swapping to winter tire set? We have a 2025 X5 with the M Sport wheels and purchased a winter tire set from TireRack. Just not exactly sure on the process to pair the new TPMS sensors or what all has to be done in the car's system (if any).

When you go into the tire pressure settings there should be a function where you can change the type of tires you put on. Ie. Winter tires, summer tires, all seasons.

I'm waiting for my X5M competition to arrive and I'm a bit concerned about the stiffness of the vehicle. I'm coming form a Jeep SRT which is stiff in performance mode but I think the X5M will be a stiffer ride. Any recommendations to get a more soft ride besides putting the drive-train in comfort mode?

Rims would play a big roll on this, so if you kept the standard rims on that vehicle you should be fine. I honestly thing the X5M is not too stiff in terms of comfort, all M vehicle i've driven all have the perfect amount of stiffness it seems. Settings wise, yes comfort is the way to go, not much else you can do but you'll feel right at home.

I have read that the chassis of some vehicles are optimised for runflat. These runflat tires spring unevenness worse, the chassis then takes over that. Without a runflat, the car could feel softer.

Cost cutting, run-flats have only even saved me once in the many years of driving. So not much needed, plus there is BMW road side assistance.

I had nothing but problems with my run flat tires for my g30 bulges would appear out of nowhere and they would run hard got rid of them and put Michelin non run flat tires 🤙

The car recognises original wheels and displays 3 different air pressure suggestions. Depending on the load. I also have the feeling that the car recognises changes even while driving and suggests minimally deviating air pressures. For example, if you drive alone and then 2 people get on

Hello from Germany. Many of the tires with the star marking are also available with other identifiers for other car manufacturers. The tires with star are also available without manufacturer identification. An example would be the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s or Pirelli Sottozero 3. There are Pilot Sport für BMW, Mercedes and „normal“ Pilot Sport. The tires for bmw should be optimised differently, such as steering more precisely and rolling more quietly. However, the question of mileage would be.

Should be fine. You may just have a bit of a bumpy ride. Just be weary of potholes. They are more likely to get bent. I would get the wheel and tire package if you were on the fence for it.

I have a 2023 X1 with 10,300 miles the original Bridgestone tires will barley pass inspection. No help from dealer, BMW or Bridgestone. Turns out there is no warranty on these original equipment tires. I'm replacing all four next week. Third and last BMW.

Star rating tires just mean that they are from the parts store or from the factory and are up to BMW standards. Some say they are different from regular tires but I dont think that is the case. You can use other non-star tires and the vehicle will do fine.

Also love Tirerack! Yes it's becoming a thing where it may cut costs in the right areas. I think I've only ever gotten saved by a run-flat once in my many years of driving. Plus many new BMWs offer road side assistance if needed.

@@BeamerView I think you may be off on this one, I remember seeing "how it works" type videos on how the same model and size of a tire differs between the afterrmarket and car manufacturer approved versions. There are differences, whether they'll truly matter I do not know, but the statement on them being different seems to be holding true.

I read, (Tire Rack?) that Pirelli tires wear faster than others. You may get half the life. I also heard that the rear tires on BMW's, let us say X3's, wear faster than the fronts. Any truth to these ?

I can imagine why the rears would wear out faster since BMW focuses on sporty driving dynamics and they would put more power going into the rear of the vehicle rather than the front. Not sure about Pirelli's wearing faster. I have them on my car and they seem to do an okay job so far.

You did not mention anything about getting BMW Star marked tires. I have read that if you want optimal performance for your car, Star marked tires are the way to go.

Star marked tires just mean that they are from the BMW Parts store or the BMW Factory. They mean they are up to BMW standards but using non-star tires isn't going to make any difference.

@@BeamerView Here in Switzerland, if your BMW (xDrive models only) doesn't have star marked tires and you have any issue with the xDrive system or transfer case it won't be covered under warranty

@@BeamerViewI bought it used one year ago, with 7K miles on it, and when I brought it in after a few thousand miles, I wanted to use the wheel package to fix some scratches on wheel paint. So because it was used, they didn’t use BMW to fix the wheels, but an approved third party. The third party discovered that 3 of the 4 wheels had been repaired before and the work done was below standard, so that 3rd party company fixed and corrected all three wheels. BMW and the 3rd party worked it all out, and they look fantastic. What was concerning is I’m planning on racing it at auto crosses, etc, had I not known, well, obviously it was dangerously unsafe. Get the wheel package for sure if buying certified used.

Shouldn't recommended tyre pressures be the same for both front and back? My front recommended is significantly higher then the back.

No tire pressures as based on the forces by the tires by center off mass as well as how much grip and based on the size of the tires too if they are staggered. Normally more in the rear. Also suspension does play a role in tyre pressure.

@@Blazergl But all tires are of the same size for my mine and strangely, the system recommends my front tires to have significantly higher pressure than the back. Also, mine is a front-wheel drive.

As Blazergl mentioned, some tire PSI's are different depending on the vehicle, a lot of things go into play such as tire size, vehicle weight, etc. It's never usually all the same. AWD and Front Wheel drivetrains would also come into play.

They shouldn't be much of a concern, they just mean that they meet BMW standards. I strongly don't think you need the star tires. If they are saying you do, then try price matching the tire with what's on tirerack.com or discount tire.

Wheel and Tire package is a scam. You would have to take it to dealership at least 8-10 times before you break even. Better option is to go to your local tire shop or chain like Discount Tire and get a road hazard warranty/certificate. It will be 80-90% cheaper.

yeah my dealership offered 5 years coverage for $2500 with $50 deductible per claim for both tire and wheel. It’s definitely not worth it.

I paid $2k for a 5 year tire & wheel plan. In the first 2.5 years I have replaced 5 Michelin PSS BMW * tires under this plan because of nails and screws and my investment has definitely paid off. If you live in an area with terrible roads and plan to keep your car more than 2-3 years it may be a smart investment to make.

By the way, the roads in the Miami - Ft. Lauderdale area where I live are awful, there is construction everywhere and every time I pull into my dealer for service there is someone there with a flat tire.

I’d be really concerned to continue driving with a flat run-flat tire - you take a tremendous risk of damaging awd transfer case and/or M sport rear diff (if it’s a rear flat) in doing so.

I wouldn't go a long distance on it, if anything just use the run flat feature to get to a safe location then get the vehicle towed if you have to. Good thing BMW offers roadside assistance for this.

Not mentioned: if you get a nail in a run flat, depending on the tire OEM, you may not be allowed to patch it. Therefore, you may automatically have to get 1 or 2 tires if you get a flat. Also, of you have Parking Pro, it almost impossible to curb your tires. BMW is very good about stopping you car before you curb you wheels... almost impossible. I would say Conti's are the best all around tires. Michelin's are good, but they are somewhat soft and not get as much tire wear, but they are arguably better performing. If you get Bridgestone, I would consider swapping those out ASAP.

I have Pirellis and called them about this since I have run flats 225/40 R19 all 4 tires. They told me their run flats can be patched as many times as needed. I should also mention Pirellis already comes with 1 year road hazard warranty in case a replacement is needed. If dealership told you to not patch run flats, they are saying that to make money. Simple as that.

Run-flat tires i've heard you cannot patch them. But I imagine depending on where the hole is it may or may not be able to at least once. I'm afraid I honestly have to disagree with the curb scraps. The parking assistant feature ran over curbs many times in the past when I've tried doing it; it may work better for parallel spots, but anything perpendicular, I would be weary.
