I’m currently visiting in Porto then onward to Elgarve then Lisbon. My wife and I are both flabbergasted with Porto and its people whom are extremely friendly and courteous. Coming from the US we’ve been in dire need of understanding the Portuguese language and culture and with their willingness and wonderful hospitality we’ve been able to make it work for us due to the people’s interest and willingness to share their experiences along with their language. We will return to the USA with some welcoming awareness in this part of the world. Sensational to say the least.

I grew up in southern monmouth county in New Jersey (60's 70's, 80's), very near the shore. 1/2 hour bike ride to the beach. growing up there, i didn't mind the influx of people in the summer season. as a local, i just needed to adjust the daily schedule of activities during the busy season. absolutely loved it during the shoulder seasons, spring, fall. something to say about a stroll during a sunny winter day on the boardwalk. i've retired to the virginia mountains and i must admit, sometimes i miss the long strolls along the ocean. i like portugal, spent some time there years ago. so many different types of terrain and the people are so helpful and friendly. thanks for sharing your thoughts on this particular area, always grateful!

Agree with your assessment of Ericeira. I spent a week there in August, clearly high season. I took a bus from Lisbon so did not bring a car. It's a really pretty beach town with some good cafes. I found some amenities lacking for me to consider long-term living- a good gym, shopping beyond groceries, livability without a car. But would 100% visit again.

We'll be back in Portugal for a month from mid October, splitting the time between Ericeira (which we love without being certain we could live there, and Porto, which we want to know better. We'll also be checking out Vigo. Thanks as ever for this helpful information.

Really nice overview (and great footage too). :) It seems that Ericeira got trendy, overbuilt, and overpriced for what it has to offer. So beautiful though.

So nice you are in my city... if i knew it, it was a pleasure to offer you a coffee. The majority of the people live a few km from the center of the village. In my opinnion, you will defenitively need a car to live here, so if you want to live outside of the city, have a house with a backyard, maybe a pool, own your piece of land, then this may be a place for you. I have lived here for 20 years, and i went to the beach 2 or 3 times... so i'm not so different than yourself. One thing i can tell you is that this is a great place to raise your kids. The city has a good and healthy vibe, and kids love it generally. International schools you don't have here only in Sintra, Cascais, and lisbon. cheers

Please make a video that shows where the recent fires were in Portugal and where you can live to make sure you don't run into that problem. Thanks guys 👏

Have you’s been to London at c’mas? That is on my list for when i move to Portugal. I want to visit the biggest cities of each European country that decks out for the season & get some fabulous cmas decor pieces from each one. I want to visit the high end stores, have traditional teas, meals, whatever they partake in, to my delight! I get wacky for Christmas. I would love to see the costs, mechanis & logistics involved in that. If you know of a clogger, blogger who does something like this i would so appreciate the reference to them. Merry Christmas young family!

Hi Robin, we have and we're doing it this year. :-) Merry Christmas to you too. Unfortunately, we don't know any Christmas bloggers. - Josh & Kalie

Been here almost two years, seen the prices for housing skyrocket and they just keep going up. We have loved it but run out of things to do, so ready to move on. Agree with your assessment except the price and availability of ready housing.

Hello, I am a fan of your channel. What is the approximate cost of an international school in Ericiera?
@bernardopiano71533 ай бұрын
There isn't any international school here. If that's what you are trying to find, then the closer ones are in Sintra, Cascais, lisbon, or in torres vedras. If you want to give a try , you have the public system that is prepared to receive forigner students, or there are local private schools as well ( prices between 400 to 500 eur a month)

Apparently the private school EITV has a shuttle to Ericeira.

how does Ericeira compare to Nazaré as a surfer destination?
@bernardopiano71533 ай бұрын
It's more or less the same thing... geographicaly, both places are on the West Coast, and have the same culture... one place is closer to the capital, just that...
@gringoviejo19353 ай бұрын
@@bernardopiano7153 went to Nazaré w/ my folks in the Fall 25 years ago. *MANY* surfers in the cold, cold water!
@bernardopiano71533 ай бұрын
@gringoviejo1935 i don't even imagine how nazare was 25 years ago. I hope you had a great time. Now it's certainly more touristy, but it still has a certain authentic portuguese look. Ericeira is a surf spot a bit south, closer to the capital, still having the same authentic portuguese fishing village look, but it has a big community of foreign people living here. The waves are way smaller than the ones in nazare:)

This would have been my first choice but I think it’s out of my price range.

Don't make assumptions. Come by, check the vibe of the place, how the life is here... and then you can decide if this place is for you or not. Please don't come and live here if you don't recognize yourself or if you don't understand the culture or the people. Please stay where you are if you don't recognize yourself with Ericeira...
