I’m only 1100-1200 at 10 mins games but i love playing ruy Lopez as whites because it is a sharp opening and at my level people respond with worst positions all the time (poorly played bird defense, old steinitz defense, modern steinitz defense, berlin defense, and that one that Goes with 3. Ne7. I obviously lose games too otherwise I wouldnt be stuck at my level for some time now, but these are great positions to practice offensive Chess and on how to punish early mistakes of your opponents.

@@mortalchess Yeah it's annoying, but it's atleast so solid White doesn't have an advantage. Do you really want to waste your 1 move tempo advantage? I'm down to play a position with black where I am equal at the very beginning of the game. Don't mind if I do! I usually play the D5 move against the alapin. Most people at the 1500-1600 level usually just play the bowdler attack though, which is trash for white. I hope people at 1900 level will go for the open sicilian more often when I get there. Anyway, happy holidays

not quite, you can't castle to get away from check while in check. cant castle if path to castle passes through check and lastly, cant castle if either king or rook has moved.so if u get checked and block check with piece, u can still castle.
