I love my 2008 Acura Mdx, it's still driving great with over 270,000 miles!! Edit: Today marks the day where my lovely girl passed on to the greater beyond with 302,000 miles! She did me well and I will miss her greatly. I'm not sure what happened exactly other than I started her up this morning and transmission fluid leaked everywhere and with that being said the transmission stopped working, of course. How? Not necessarily true. The 6 speed transmission in the 10-13 is prone to torque converter shudder. Honda combated this by offering a transmission software update available through your dealer. Fortunately, my 11 has had the trans already updated. 101,000 miles and no major problems yet!

I agree the 01-06 models are known for trash transmissions. Especially the 03’s from what I read. I have an 04 no idea about the previous owner, but I’ve put about 26,000 miles on mine in one year. At 188,000 right now. I have to top off the power steering fluid every oil change, but other then minor suspension work (that was literally a week ago) and brakes and tires that’s it. Edit: Trans is great it misses a shift here and there and shifts hard once in a while, but nothing major.

James Bondarchuk Look for a 2012-2013 as these are the last of this generation and most of the problems have been weeded out. I would also check for proof of maintenance and get it inspected by a reputable mechanic before you buy it! The mdx is the best bang for the buck, I work with all types of vehicles and these ones are the least problematic, much better than bmw or Mercedes SUVs or even a Porsche suv! My friend bought a 2005 Porsche suv paid over 130k for it (new) and after five years the trade in value was 30k, where as an MdX would hold its value MUCH better than the Porsche or any other German SUV. Hope this helps.

True, I am a BMW owner and I disliked the video because as an open minded person, I was waiting to learn how this car is better than mine, but nothing was taught other than one persons opinion about a car they don’t even own!! Lol. It’s their friends car! R u serious? Somewhere out there is someone who says their Kia is way better than an Acura for the money. Opinions are like...well u know. Everyone has one. There are plenty of other comparisons for why one car is better than another even ones that dislike my car or brand that I would gladly thumbs up because they’re done in a meaningful fashion. 300hp in an MDX is not the same as in an X5 or X3, and I’m not just taking about power to weight ratio. I’m talking about the entire reason, people buy these, some of which to race. When’s the last time you heard, without researching, anyone buying an MDX to race? You didn’t, so stop searching 😂. Any car can be turned into a race car including an MDX but it’s not built for that the way an X5 or even X3 is. The engine and tranny are mated to each other for smooth shifting and obscenely fast acceleration unlike the MDX. Why do you think there are track events for X5’s and not for MDX’s? Lol. If an MDX could hold its own, they’d have their own track events and or show up at other track meets. If ur looking for the best bang for ur buck, YES, buy an MDX, better yet, do like Scotty and buy a Toyota! Lol But obviously anyone who buys a BMW or any other luxury car is opting for something a little more. Yeah, sometimes that more is more money spent fixing it, but it’s OUR choice, OUR money that we’re grateful to have. I’m not a brand loyalist, you show me a car that handles corners, accelerates to top speed and shifts as smooth as my X3 or an X5, has an interior I’d like and costs less to maintain, I’ll switch right now! Hey, I still regret basically giving away my 1987 Buick Regal T-Top Ltd, and I might buy and fix another one later on, but until my car has had its day, I’m keeping it and I’m still racing it!

Again , I gotta agree with Scotty, being a dealer who regularly sells both MDX and X5 and comparable SUV I gotta tell you that the MDX is THE best overall SUV in the market and X5 is a hit and miss type. X5 handling is great no doubt but it can surprise you with costly breakdowns. If you wanna play safe and still have fun and good looks, go with the MDX. And yes if you dont need a big engine/ 7 seater then the smaller sibling the RDX will do the job.

I have a 2009 with the Navigation system. I have almost 190,000 on it right now. I do the maintenance when it is scheduled. Never had a problem with it except the little decorative tabs on the air vents fell off and the cup holder in the arm rest of the middle seats is jammed closed. I have towed a almost 5000 pound Lund Tyee behind it and the drive train had no problems. The front brakes, however, will not like that. I drove that rig halfway across the country with no issues. I had a bunch of deer walk into the road on I-5 in Washington state and at 75 mph my avoidance maneuver did not put me over the cliff and we stayed upright. Love the darn thing.

I have a 2008 Acura RDX(non-tech) and I love it. The only thing I'm working on replacing is the stereo. Very basic. Speakers are great, but only SiriusXM, AUX, and 6 Disc CD Changer. Not too shabby, but the screen is pretty useless compared to newer stereos. I'm going to clean the oxidation off the headlights, and put an Android Stereo in that can use the steering wheel controls.

Remember to change your automatic transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, and rear differential fluids (3 different kinds) with honda brand at maintenance times. Dirty fluid can lead to problems. This also suffers from the power steering pump leak. It may just need the 2 Oem O rings replaced and a fluid flush not always a full pump change.

Ninja Master I disagree. I have a 2011 MDX and I just replaced all my fluids to higher performance oils and it runs amazing! Mobil1 in the engine, redline D6 in the transmission, Amsoil severe gear in the transfer case, and ATE Typ 200 DOT 4 brake fluid. I also changed the transmission inline filter and the transmission pressure switches. The thing runs like a dream and so smooth. I decided to go with a high performance brake fluid because the heavy duty Honda DOT3 burnt up on me in a year just city driving the family around, no towing. Just from switching to the DOT4 high performance brake fluid the pedal is noticeably firmer and extremely responsive and I need to change all my brakes within the year, so I can only assume the results will be amplified. Don’t be afraid to use non OEM fluid.

the amazing 3.7l v6 engine also burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles lol. ask me how i know. make sure you change your oil if you want it to continue to last. After 5500 miles (15% maintenance minder), only 1 quart comes out for me out of the 4.5 quarts! there's a recall on this engine for excessive oil consumption and rebuilding the entire engine is the fix!

Also both have 5 star crash ratings, and SH-AWD with a computerized suspension system!! Both can also be had for $7,000-$12,000!! Depending on the milage. I love my 2004 MDX Technology. 184,000 miles, and drives like it is brand new! It drives like my dad's 2011 Range Rover Supercharged! And the sound system is phenomenal with Bose Surround sound!! Plus it has a 5 star crash rating, weighs 6300 pounds! Gets 28-30MPG on the tollway, and has VTEC, and 284 HP! I named him Maximus. I had bought Maximus when I was 15 myself. I had mowed over a hundred lawns, trimmed countless trees, and worked my butt off! It was well worth it to own such a phenomenal vehicle! Now I had just turned 21, and Maximus is doing fantastically, and still drives like new! Even at 191,000 miles! That's my Acura story.

Jet black custom 2013 Acura MDX Advanced. Identical to the ones in Captain America! But even more epic! I named him ONYX 11 years, and half my life of dreaming, it is even better that I could ever imagine! Doing some epic modifications and custom work in the coming years! I’ve done a few awesome ones 6 months in. Completely restored the interior and exterior, including the rust! And put around 300 hours of hard work into the truck! I did the best that I could with my tools and a low college student budget. I don’t own many tools, because I have nowhere to store them. I had mechanically refurbished the engine, transmission, catalytic converter, power steering, and more to list. I baby the truck! I will insure will last it until I am 30. But life happens, and nothing is guaranteed. I learned that with my beloved old 2004 MDX Tech. (Maximus). A computer virus from a 2006 navigation system(Trojan horse) very very unfortunately killed all of the computing units! It killed Maximus. I cried privately for weeks! 7 years (age 14-21), 220,000 miles, many fun and sad experience later, road trips, and memories. Over 500 hours of repairs work and hot rodding! That truck was my life! I loved Maximus more than any (romantic) relationship that I’ve been in through my youth. People can be shallow. Maximus was not only my vehicle, but my passion. Still sitting in my driveway for 6 months. R.I.P old flame. 🔥

The original Denso Radiator has a design flaw and causes the transmission fluid to mix with the coolant and contaminates both systems. It can be fixed by flushing the coolant with water and the transmission with transmission fluid to eliminate the coolant. Changing the radiator early is good preventive maintenance.
