I need to point out a few things... In this video I'm not referring to my Super Snake, I'm referring to the 2013-2014 GT500. These are 6 reasons why I believe the last generation GT500 was better.

@@terpynews5458 Yeah, they made a huge mistake by not offering a manual option. I get the idea that they wanna be more competitive with the Europeans and make a more capable track car as opposed to drag queen like the previous gen. That and broaden the market for the car. At the end of the day purists dont care about track times so we'll see if it back fires on Ford or not.

Noah Ontiveros May be due to warranty reasons. I want to say the latest tremec is rated at 700ft lbs. Some of this rating will change based on vehicle weight of course. Notice dodge has a manual trans in their 717hp car but not their 797 car. Plus it gets harder and harder to make a clutch that both holds and allows enough slip for easy drivability. It may be as simple for the reasons I outlined. Though if I were a betting man I would predict the tq on the new GT500 to be less than 700ft lb of tq. It also may be as simple as the manual didn’t like shifting at 7500+ this engine in theory should be maxing at.

I own a 14 GT500. I'm also 67 years old. I'm impressed so far by the 2020 and I hope it does well. But I'll stick with the 14 because of the retro styling, live axle, and stick. From what I've read, 13-14s are only a few mods away from 700 RWHP and they are handicapped by the 3.31 axle. I'll never mod it but it's fun to think about. Plus I got the car new in the showroom and discounted to $53k. It had been sitting in the Ford showroom for 6 months. Anyway, due to price, the 2020 is going to be compared to the new C8. Good luck with that.

I can see your reasons but definitely opinion based. I would counter that the 2020 is better. #1 Is the independent rear suspension which makes it better on public roads and surfaces that are not in stellar condition. #2 is Magnetic Ride suspension, as you get a smooth and amazingly handling ride that only the top performance cars can outdo. #3 is the DCT, sure the manual may have the same 0-60, but what about the 0-100, or 0-150? DCT is the fastest shifting transmission design in the market, so performance wise it’s no slouch and will run more consistently. #4 It has more horsepower out of the factory. The 2013-14 had 662 this 2020 has 720 or more. The 2013-14 is definitely more overall value, but the New one has a setup id much rather have in a Mustang. This is my opinion of course.

@gtmike916
@gtmike916 5 жыл бұрын
Nick Roselle ?? Where did you get the 700 lbs?? At most the leaked spreadsheets would indicate 4228. That’s only 350-380 more, but the car also has a DCT and Magnetic Ride along with an independent rear suspension. The only reason the 13-14 matches the 0-60 is a long ass 1st gear. The 0-100 and 0-150 will definitely be in the 2020 GT500’s favor. 0-60 isn’t a good measure of performance.
@johnandrus3901
@johnandrus3901 5 жыл бұрын
The 662 hp was the top dog back in 13-14. I'm sure that Ford could have gotten another 60-70 hp out of it had they needed to, especially if Dodge or Chevy had upped the ante. Dump the crappy Eaton and go with a KB or Whipple and tweak the tune. I'm sure that the DCT will make the new car accelerate pretty quickly, but once you are at a certain speed, you are in your top gear, so I doubt that the DCT will out accelerate the manual after 100 mph +. It certainly won't make a difference for your top speed. At a certain point, power, weight and aero will take over. I do agree with you about the independent suspension. My Cobras handle and ride better than my '12 on bumpy roads. A performance car needs the independent rear end. Ford did a really good job sorting out the stick axle, though and it isn't too bad.

John Andrus I do agree about the numbers in 13-14 although the hellcat did come out with 707 the year afterwards in 15. Still aftermarket wise the GT500 is better as of now. I just like DCTs better for the overall response though.

@@gtmike916 Very true. The manual Hellcat, if you can find one, isn't as quick or fast as the Shelby, a factor of the 650 or so pounds of extra bulk. The DCT will be great for the track, I'm sure. I just wish that Ford would offer the choice of a manual or the 10 speed auto in the base car.

There will be allot of opinions both ways. For me; it's ok to love them both for different reasons. Your points are reasonable. I own a previous generation myself. They could tweak the 2020 offering to a manual and dropping some weight; which would appeal to more buyers like me. I think they will end up doing that, but who knows when. True; they will have no trouble selling the new ones. I personally prefer staying true to the roots of Carrol Shelby's tradition. I guess it's like chocolate and vanilla ice cream; which one do you like best. I do prefer the larger block, manual tranny, and top speed. I do like the wider body and hood ventilation (heat extraction) on the 2020. Magna ride suspension is new technology and is a huge improvement for handling and safety. I would like to see a focus the GT350R as a track beast and the GT500 as a street beast. I had suspected to see two versions of the GT500 as they have the GT350. There is things I like about the new one and the old one's. Just more Shelby to LOVE! I would like to see what it would look like w/ Flat Plane Crank technology in the larger block engines. I gather blowers don't work well with FPC. These are my opinions; I know, everybody has one.

@@darkliquid6388 two of the Mustangs were V6's (a white base and a black premium) and the third was a black GT premium. All 3 were 6 Speeds. Here's the story, I bought the white V6 base brand new in Aug 2013, after a year, I traded up to the black GT premium in Aug 2014, because I saw what the S550 was going to look like and didn't like it. I kept that car for 2 1/2 years til my fiance made me trade down to a fucking Scion tC so I could get a lower car payment. Had the tC for a year and sold it, went without a car for a few months. When I needed a car again, I picked up a 2015 Civic Si in March 2018. Kept it until last November when the black V6 premium Mustang showed up for sale at my fiances dealership. It was a win win, technically traded down for it and got a lower payment to boot. Finally, came into some money recently and wanted a V8 again. There were no reliable 6 Speed S197 GT's available, so it was between a Camaro SS or ZL1 and the Challenger R/T Scat Pack for me (since the regular R/T is only as fast as a 3.7 Mustang). Anyone that has owned or owns a 13-14 knows its a real beast and last of the rear solid axle and white knuckle American muscle. The new cars are really great but this was the end of an era. 662 HP in 2013? was it perfect no, but it was as close to perfect for the period it was created in. 13-14 GT500 to me is my favorite.

Yeah about that dealer mark up.... Shelby America charges over 40k to do the super snake swap on the 13/14 GT500. Thats pretty expensive for a blower swap, cooling upgrade, mufflers, hood, wheels and brakes upgrades oh and new badges. Plus they want to keep your pull off parts. So that 65k 2013 GT500 becomes a 100k plus....if you go with the super snake. Also the the baseline GT500 makes 662hp not over a 1000hp....the super snake only makes 850hp....you have to pay even more for the Shelby 1000 which makes over 1000hp which is near useless being that the standard GT500 has a hard time putting the power down in first gear.

I have a 14 Gt 500. It kicks ass on a track with a Watts link and Carbotech pads. Unfortunately it's faster than most 350Rs' on a track. Yes, with turns. The Trinity engine bottom end is built by Mahle Germany. It stays together in the extreme conditions i put it through. One of my buddies with a 350 just had Ford replace his entire block due to excessive oil consumption. 4 quarts on track day alone. Will the 13/14 be better than a 2020. If the 2020 engine stays together on a track. Probably better. 2020 500 brakes are better for sure. DCT will be cool, but takes the driver further from participating in the good lap times. Rev match on an auto. Needed more in a standard trans. No?

Overall there is no way the 2014 is better than the 2020. However, I personally would take the 2014 based on the fact that it's a manual, and I love the feeling of cruising in a manual. I'm not out there to tear up the drag strip, or the road course. The latter being what the 2020 was built for. Instead I'd like to cruise and build it to hit a low 10/ high 9 in the 1/4 which wouldn't take much with the 2014 to accomplish.

As far as markup goes ,Honestly,if the consumer stopped paying these ridiculous markups ,it wouldnt happen,because every car marked up would be sitting at that dealership until it was reduced to a minimum of msrp.(and I've never even paid msrp) I dont care what it is,either I get it for a fair price ,or I wait and I will get it for a very good price...And yep,I wont have it first,but I when I get mine,the person who paid stupid money will owe right around what I just paid,if not much more

The GT500 makes over 700 horsepower with a 7 speed DCT we all know this but stop to consider the rear gear setup will be a 3.73 final drive ratio because of that it will be faster off the line without giving up that much top speed. For example say you two cars with the same 6 speed manual or automatic transmission the engine horsepower is 750 and torque is at 650 and the only difference is one is a 3.73 final drive ratio and the other is a 3.10 final drive ratio the one with the 3.73 will be off the line faster and maybe even beat the one with the 3.10.

A DCT transmission is a manual transmission only that the clutch is electronically controlled and not done by a foot petal and shifting is done the same way electronically shifted and not done with a shifter nob connected to the transmission when driving in manual mode and it has a automated mode which the cars computer does all the work for you witch is grate for in town and city and even on the highways especially in rush hour traffic and when in gridlock traffic when hardly nobody moving. So basically it’s a automated manual transmission. Honda has used DCT transmissions for a number of years now on about a third of their motorcycle lineup rumor has it that all of their motorcycle’s over 225cc might have it as a optional transmission within the next decade or so.

Same car. The GT500 is taken to Shelby American and transformed into the Super Snake. I believe that he was just mentioning the hp numbers that Shelby gets from the Trinity motor. Otherwise, his comparisons were between the stock GT500 and what has been revealed so far about the new GT500. Some are subjective, like looks and interior. We'll see how the objective numbers come out and how the new one actually performs in the hopefully not too distant future.

Ok......so, let's get one fact out in the open. the 2020 GT500 is a complete evolution of the nameplate; meaning it's built using the most up-to-date performance hardware. I love 6MT's as much as the next person but the new GT500 is built to perform on the world stage. Most high end performance cars are using dual-clutch transmission for the performance gains they bring to the table....it's not a true automatic like people think it is. Think DSG for Audi or PDK for Porsche......both are lightning quick when shifting up or down and provide a level of consistency you can't get from a manual. Most GT500 purist are stuck in the mindset that it should be just a straight-line performer....that's no longer a viable trend for selling a car like this. Look at what Chevy did with the ZL-1, they created the 1LE packages for that car just to basically embarrass German and Italian sports cars-Ford wasn't even on their radar with that car. Same thing with the GT350 and GT350R....those were built to kill BMW M3/M4's, Cadillac ATS-V's, Audi RS5's, C63 AMG's and other two-door GT coupes. And BTW.....that 5.2L Voodoo engine probably has just as much tuning potential as the Trinity 5.8L.....maybe more.......

I find it funny people are all negative over a car they haven't driven yet. The new GT500 will kick the 13/14 GT500's ass (not talking about the SuperSnake) just going by the numbers shown so far. I love the 13/14 GT500 but everything about the new one is better and when somebody drives one they'll prove this. I also think they kept the "base" GT500 up in the container is because its possible there is a stick in it, who knows? Nobody does so assuming everything does nothing and saying the S197 platform is better is pure ignorance of the current platform. I've owned both and there is no comparison between the two. I love the S197 and the GT500's from 2007 through 2014, lets see how the new GT500 fares before making assumptions, except where it's obvious of course and by the numbers, the previous gen is simply out gunned in every way

Agree with you 100% and my opinion is an auto in an American "hot rod" is blasphemy. Your car is absolutely awesome !!! I am a retired senior and always dreamed after retirement, attaining a car like yours. But, as my life progressed, I realize now it will never happen due to financial restraints. My first hot rod in high school was a 1968 Ford- Torino GT. It was just like your 500 and was black on black. The cool thing was it did not have the long fastback rear end and was more standard looking like a Fairlane. Ever since then, I have always been a loyal Ford customer. So, after you make your first millions as succesful KZbinr, and move on to better vehicles, I would gladly take your Shelby as it's new caretaker. Wow!!!, my old timer dreams would come true and life would be complete, and be like an enthusiastic teen again. Keep up the great work and informative videos.
