Here's Why The Saturn L200 Is A Great Budget Car Buy

SUBSCRIBE TODAY!!! Showing you why my 2003 Saturn L200 is a great budget car buy. starting from the outside, the paint has held up well except some weathering on the bumper and side panel. On the inside, it has all the standard options of most cars including 60/40 split folding rear seats creating lots of extra space. The trunk has lots of space for most anything you want to put back there. Under the hood, the car is a straight forward 2.2ltr 4 cylinder engine that is fairly simple to work on. There are lots of readily available parts for this car and they are cheap. The gas mileage is good as well between 26-30mpg. Insurance is cheap on the car, gas mileage is good, cost of maintenance is cheap and the car runs and drives great. For a car that you can purchase for under $1,000, it is a great buy and is the perfect commuter car that will get you from a to b reliably. Make sure to like this video and subscribe to my channel!

My mom bought a 2001 L300 in 2004, and that sucker is loaded. I think the only option it doesn't have is the premium sound. The 3.0 V6 is a powerful SOB. She passed away in 2007, but we still have the Saturn. It has 138,000 miles and has been very reliable. In fact I'm using it now while my car is in the shop.

Just purchased my stepdads lawn ornament-2002 Saturn L 200 wagon. I say lawn ornament because it sat in his driveway, non-operational for two years. Turns out all it needed was fresh oil, a battery and rear brake lines. I did all the work myself and out the door it was about $300 in parts , fluids and hardware. I can back up the statement you made about small seats. I’m a big dude at 6’4” and even though I’m quite thin, In order to sit comfortably my long legs have to be set farther apart (tall guys know what I mean-we have to sprawl). So yeah, in this seat I feel kind of big. But for the price (other than the aforementioned parts, FREE), I can say that this has been one of my smarter endeavors, for sure.

I too am a happy L200 owner. After getting her (and before getting her street legal) I heard sooo many negative things about the model, but as I drove her I soon came to the conclusion that they didn't know what they were talking about and was amazed at how great of a car she is. I actually bought mine from a guy at a metal recycling center (for $250, $50 more than the recycling center was going to pay him.); I changed the thermostat, put in a new battery, added coolant, and it has been a GREAT car for 3yrs now. Unfortunately I think she now has a cracked head (More than likely had a hair-line crack when I got her, because the guy had been driving her without coolant or any maintenance at all. :'( ), but I originally bought her for an electric car conversion project which I'm now getting around to so she has been WELL MORE THAN WORTH MY INVESTMENT. :') I actually came across your video while researching the wiring system for her. Even though she was (as is) a good road-trip vehicle, she will (as an electric car) be an even better road-trip vehicle for us.

Former 2003 L200 owner here. I had a love-hate relationship with my L200. It used to break down every year and at that point I decided to stop investing money into repairs for it. The past few years however, after I stopped putting money into repairs for it, it started acting reliable. Really reliable, in fact. Unfortunately, rust ate up the frame and it wouldn't drive straight anymore. I guess this is normal for a car in the Midwest where we get a lot of snow and salt. I had to junk the car last December. I really feel bad junking it, I wish I could buy the car back. It served me well since I bought it in 2007. Lots and lots of miles on it.

I have a 2004 Saturn L300. Same 2.2 Liter engine the same as yours. I bought it back in 2007 with 34,000 miles at the Saturn Dealership- certified pre-owned. It had only one owner. I currently still own the vehicle with 169,000 miles. Major repairs I've had to do are the head gaskets which I changed when the car had 153 k and the radiator. The car has been been absolutely great. Maintenance is low cost and parts as well. If you maintain it well it will last you easily up to 300 K and more. And this is from previous owners I've personally known and that's why I got this car, for reliability purposes.Enjoy and take care of it as it will take care of you.

@ExtraFungus 4 жыл бұрын
Less weight can mean better economy but a few plastic panels don't really cut the weight much, especially on the l200 and l300. The front fenders, bumpers and outer door skins are plastic, that's it. The rest of the panels are steel and the chassis is based off the Saab 9-3. The real advantage to the plastic on this car is it greatly reduced damage from door dings and other minor impacts.

This is opinion so I didn't put it in the corrections. Plastic panels are the way to go, as corrected that faded rear quarter panel isn't plastic, it's steel. The plastic panels are the bumpers, door skins and front fenders. You knock it but where are the door dents? I've owned just one Saturn but many "plastic cars" and they are just better, I've had panels survive things without a dent that steel panels just couldn't hold up to. It cuts down of repairs and looks better longer.

My daily driver is a 2003 LW200, same color as this, and is the 1st car I have taken to over 200K miles. It still runs well, and I don't abuse it. The hood and roof on mine have faded, but it looks decent for a while after it is polished. One part that was NOT available when I needed it was the short cables that go into the rear brake drums, for the parking brake. In 2003, I think I have read that GM reduced some of the content for the 4 cylinder models (the 200's), such as changing from rear disc brakes to rear drum brakes. So the short parking brake cables to the wheels are specific to the drum brake models. I ended up finding cables on the German eBay site, looking up cables for a 1996-2000 Opel Vectra B with rear drum brakes. Since this car is related to the Opel & Vauxhall Vectra B, some of the parts are interchangeable. I also was able to replace the pleather boot around the handbrake handle with one for an Opel Vectra B - it was a perfect fit. And I think there are some suspension pieces that are interchangeable with the Saab 9-5, which was also based on the GM2900 platform.

I've have never seen such parts from a Saab in a SATURN interior before, look at pictures of both interiors side by side. The 9-5 competes in the e-segment executive cars like the s type, a6, e-class and 5 series, the L-series can't even compete against a Toyota Camry lmfao. That era of Gm was still bad in terms of build quality. My MAIN point from the beginning is that the Saturn was just a Vectra B wanna-Be. Just because it was on a European platform doesn't make it any better.
