DWI/DUI are of the highest causes of death and injuries including children but yet the states are still giving the equivalent of slaps on the wrists for such actions that put innocent lives at such serious threats. My first cousin was killed by a drunk driver. Hit him so fast on a county road that was only marked for 35mph and threw my cousin's body approximately 40 feet from where his shoes were still at the point of impact. It was the driver's 3rd DWI. Or it's interesting what people will do when they don't want to get in trouble. After thinking about it, he went back because leaving the accident would've gotten him into more trouble because his car was there, as well as witnesses. Had the cops been there before he could dip, he still would've been in flight mode and likely would've acted a little dumb about his personal info. It's just a reaction to save oneself from harm. It's what people do after the initial reaction settles down, and they can use rational thought that really shows character. Flight, fight, freeze, etc., can give an idea, but it's not always the truth(like freezing up doesn't automatically make someone a coward). The dude came back because he's smart. He made sure the cops acknowledged that he did not cause that accident. Regardless, he wasn't concerned for others as much as he was concerned for himself. That's not saying he didn't care, but it's a stretch to look at his choices and come to the conclusion that he is somehow the exact opposite of the drunk driver, having all the empathy in the situation for some reason.

This makes me so angry. Those charges should not have been dropped! Especially when a child has been hurt! I’m surprised that he didn’t jump bail again! I know prosecutors are busy and that’s the reason they drop these “lesser” charges so they can focus on their more violent crimes but I still see rapists and domestic violence offenders getting certain charges dropped as part of a plea agreement. It bothers me.

Speaking as a recovering alcoholic who has done a few heinous things himself (or rather things that could have potentially gone this badly or worse), I’m insisting readers understand that not punishing this man did him a disservice to his getting better and laying off the sauce for good. Here's the kicker, he can get a liver transplant the doctor says, the only condition is he stop drinking. My uncle would rather die than stop. Let me be clear I have no sympathy for my uncle, my heart breaks for my mother and grandmother at the pain they will endure when my uncle dies. People need to realize that, with their govt. officials conducting their "war on drugs" with 10-year sentences for possession (while hurting no one), then releasing these dangerous, multiple-offense drunk drivers to remain on the road, the govt. officials want people dead and injured while not bearing any responsibility for their actions (other than possibly having their Big Guys at the top getting voted out after many years of causing damage to the people).
