Differences with the UK: 1. Cops will chase stolen cars or cars with suspect documentation (Road Tax, Inspection certificate, Insurance, dodgy plates) or suspicious driver 2. The lead chase car gives a running commentary over the radio indicating the route, so other cars can get ahead to place traps or join in to perform a PIT manoeuvre 4. US cops have to be cautious approaching a stopped car, since the driver may be armed . In the Uk theres no such fear of the driver being armed, so the stopped car is piled on by multiple cops who will smash the windows and haul the driver out, and cuff him, sometimes rather enthusiastically....

Regarding #2, I believe U.S. cops do that as well, at least to some degree. You can see in this video there is definitely coordination going on with all of the different units as is evidenced by the strips that are put down on the road so the driver can run into them, as well as the intersection towards the end of the video that the cops had shut down.

Too much talking. Granted, the recruit may be in Phase 1 or Phase 2 of training, so ot MAY be understandable. But, if he is a Phase 3 or 4 recruit, the FTO needs to observe and evaluate, not side seat drive. He isn't doing that recruit any favors by spoon feeding conditions, tips, and instructions. If the rookie can't perform well on his own, he isn't a viable candidate. Again, if he is a brand new recruit, okay. But, if he is at the midpoint of FTO or beyond, then that FTO is doing too much.

Honestly I’m extremely impressed by the training officers instructions. Alerting the adrenaline fueled rookie to observe traffic hazards and to control hisself. Not letting the rookie act like a rapid dog in chase mode. Too often cops think that because they have lights and sirens running, that they are automatically entitled to the right of way. I’d only seen 1 video where the training officer corrected the recruits. He asked when can you ignore traffic laws? Most recruits said when running lights and sirens, some said if in a pursuit. The instructor said NO, only when it’s safe to do so. Lights and sirens does not mean you can blow thru intersections, you are still required to procede with caution. There’s a multitude of reasons that another driver may not have noticed the lights & sirens.

The FTO, remained calm and made his assistance, clear and concise. There is no substitute for an intensive period of OJT with a very experienced officer. In my 22 year career as a federal LEO, ive seen so many new agents return from the academy after achieving very high marks, but struggle with the post academy training. Your best officers often arent fond of training the newbie, they prefer to be out doing their case work, which is what makes them ideal FTOs. Sort of a circle. Im also a big proponent of having newbies spend time working with supervisors. They get a broader picture of everything that goes into successful law enforcement, not just the exciting stuff .

@yehboi6646 one thing to know about any law enforcement career, it's 95% paperwork and boredom, and 5% holy crap did that just happen.

Not surprised who the person was who ran from the cops! Natural for them.

Crazy low sentence. She could have killed people driving recklessly like that. This is akin to flailing a gun around and randomly shooting bullets in every direction and should be punished as such

The fact that, after endangering the lives of all the cops and everyone she passed, she expects consideration for her personal comfort (or any consideration at all) blows my mind. She should be grateful she's still breathing.

Nonsense. The two things have nothing to do with each other. It's not the job of the cops to punish people. They use the force necessary, nothing more.

Jails are pretty packed. What if 1 day and night in jail for a taste with a 12 month suspended sentence and 1000 hours of public community service wearing a shirt that clearly marks "offender." Public embarassment as a deterrent. They screw that up? 12 months gets deployed.

As a retired sergeant I have a suggestion for the rookie and for the FTO. Keep your siren in WAIL mode rather than YELP or any of the new aliens from space modes. We unconsciously tend to follow that ever present screaming siren with our breathing. We breathe slower while the siren is on wail. We breathe more erratically when in the other modes. We do it here on KZbin as well. You and I change our breathing patterns the same way the officer does when experiencing the sympathetic nervous system rush of the the siren(s), even when ours is a video, not reality.

You’re the perfect person to answer this question, if you don’t mind doing so. Just watching the video I found it so distracting hearing the FTO calling out every single move. I’m assuming that before a rookie gets behind the wheel in a real life chase that they’ve gone through all the necessary defensive driver training etc. So is it necessary for the FTO to call out every single stop sign, and every turn, and every bend in the road, and all the obvious maneuvers? Is that not super distracting for the driver?
