Every major Democrat run city has a less desirable section of town that the blacks were pushed into and sold drugs too. Mixing was a crime that would go uninvestigated for instance if a black was murdered in the white section of town. To make it worse, government funded the low income housing to make sure it stayed that way. Then chicken in every pot LBJ created a welfare program to make sure those plantation slaves would stay unsuccessful for 100 years.

This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”

My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that. What I do about slavery and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save thise Union.

Here’s a quote from the CREATOR of the confederate flag. “As a people, we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race…” from the Savannah Morning News, April 23, 1863. If you google this paper and look at page 527, you can also see that the flag was nicknamed “The White Man’s Flag.” I understand that it is a symbol of American history. I understand that is representative of some peoples’ ancestors. However, it is not patriotic. It is not a symbol of America or unity - it literally symbolizes Americans fighting our own fellow Americans. Regardless of the *many* things the civil war was about, slavery IS one of those things. It IS part of the story. You can’t pick and choose what it does or does not symbolize. It encompasses ALL of its history, INCLUDING racism, no matter how you twist the story. If you’d like to show your patriotism, why not fly the American flag? If you’d like to honor your ancestors, why not honor any of the ones who DIDNT fight to oppress another group of people? Why not honor the ones who DIDNT participate in a war against their own country? By flying the confederate flag, you are choosing a side. You are choosing the LOOSING side. The MORALLY CORRUPT side. The one that was MEANT to lose. If I’m wrong, then why doesn’t ANYONE fly the flag from the Northern side of the civil war? It’s the same as the American flag, only it has 20 stars instead of 50. Nobody flies that flag because the North won, and that flag was adapted into the current national flag. Because that one represented true EQUALITY and UNTIY amongst Americans. To this day, the confederate flag only stands to divide the American people. It is sparking yet another divide in our citizens. Maybe they do not realize it, but the people who still flaunt the confederate flag are celebrating the racism that ruled our country since day one, even if they choose to mask it as patriotism. You are able to appreciate a corrupt history without glorifying it. They simply choose to glorify it, as that is easier than admitting our ancestors were wrong. The people who fought in that war knew what they were defending. The people who sided with the south knew it was dubbed the White Mans Flag. They lived when it was conceived, when all the racism was alive and prominent. They knew what it meant to defend slavery, even if that was not their main concern. There’s no reason to respect that part of our history. It is very important to remember and acknowledge it, but to glorify it? Inexcusable. Once something is responsible for the death of innocent lives, it is no longer harmless. It is a symbol of death and prejudice and hate.

The lady saying Black soldiers fought for the Confederacy. . . ummm, no, they didn't because by the Confederacy's own laws, it was illegal for a Black man to serve as much as it was for a Black man to vote. They DID, however, contribute to the Confederate war effort in the form of cooks, manual laborers, stable hands etc, and any image presented of Black men in Confederate uniforms is doctored for the purposes of the rewritten agenda. There is zero difference between the Confederate Battle flag and the National Socialist flag. Yes, you absolutely have the freedom of expression to display both to your hearts content. Just pahleez don't go cryin' to Jesus when someone takes exception to said display and wraps you up in it with a one way ticket to meet him.

After it was over he didn't want to hold a grudge. Lee was only there for his "State" unlike when he was in the US army where he fought for the whole country. Many in the confederacy were fighting for their state. No General Lee statue should have been anyplace but Virginia. He didn't give a shit about the other 5 states that had his statue up. Some people are ignorent about the Civil War. Texas would have become its own country. That's all they wanted. There are 3 different History books. As a 38year old white male i unfortunately grew up n an environment where one of my best friends older brother had a Confederate flag above his bed in his room. Often giving us lessons on how whites are being taken over by the blacks and how they are a thorn in the side of the white community and if we didn’t do anything about it they would destroy our fabric of life. I also remember dressing in bomber jackets, red and white chucks, doc marrtins as well thinking I was cool. But it wasn’t at all i was being brainwashed by friends because I wanted to be accepted and be part of something and that something was nothing but hate. For these people to say that the Confederate flag isn’t racist and doesn’t have anything to do with hate should read a history book. I’m honestly scared for our society in the next 10-15years.

Unfortunately it was about Slavery. The Southern political problem was in fact Slavery. The sad truth is they were pure American businessmen who needed their products on time and had a pretty good operation going on that they wanted to keep. The enslavement of my people was a giant business operation. In which border states had civil conflicts over even before the official civil war itself. The South felt threatened by a Republican President who was partially sympathetic to the growing abolitionists movement. He was obviously a little bit sympathetic due to the emancipation proclamation. However it is a known fact that he did say if they would rejoin the union with the slaves he'd be fine with it. But the Confederates were just using the poor white farmers as warm body shields to keep the money moving.

This comment will be a little lengthy so please bear with me. I'm a black man, born and raised in Corinth Mississippi. Love is all around that state from most everyone, but there's no doubt a tarnished history there. What most people fail to realize about that flag is that the Klan would brandish it whenever they did their dirty work back in the day, and even in the present, so of course there is some emotions whenever a person of color sees it. It brings back very painful memories of things that shouldn't have happened. Think of it as peeling a scab and recuting the wound. When they say it's apart of their heritage I understand, however it's technically apart of ours as well. A lot of hatred, death, and deceit surrounds that flag and it can't be taken away. My ancestors died senselessly for it as well, and were continually harassed after the war, even though the black code, Jim crow, and modern era. Let us not forget how the Freedom Riders we're welcomed by the state troopers in the 60's and this is just one of many displays of ignorance. At the end of the day I just hope we can move forward and rebuild our state and live together peacefully, because it's more important to focus on the future than the past, especially since our state is in the shape it is now. I love every Mississippian and want the world to see how much love there is from the people that live here, no matter the color.

That is the time my GGgranddaddy joined the 14th artillery out of Winston County, MS. He sent the family running for their lives deeper into the forest...where we remain today. Read the secession letters for each state and the Confederate constitution and tell me if your theory makes any sense. Slavery was the main issue and keeping Blacks held to the status of "property" was the main concern. It was so much of a concern that once the war ended and the south lost, most Southern states indoctrinated state constitutions to keep Blacks disenfranchised. Just research the Alabama Constitution Convention of 1901 which the idea behind the new constitution was to ensure no white males will lose their franchise (privilege) to Blacks. No matter what, the flag is offensive and treasonous.

The flag was about slavery and that doesn’t mean northerners were fighting to protect blacks or all southerners owned slaves, but the focal point for why the war became was 100% centered around slavery and it had been brewing below the surface since the Declaration of Independence was signed. The economics of both sides of the country: The north was industrialized and therefore did not have to rely on slavery for its workforce. The south was not industrialized and was agricultural and had to heavily rely on slavery to make the bulk of its profits. Northern states started to make laws that prohibited the trafficking of slavery which angered the southerner slave owners. The appointment of Lincoln as president who the south felt was an abolishist scared slave owners and felt he unlawfully became president because he did appear on any ballots in 13 southern states. The truth is Lincoln wanted to avoid war at all costs, that was gone when the south decided to skip diplomacy and fired on fort Sumter starting the civil war. Lincoln did not have to appear on those 13 ballots because he appeared on every ballot in all northern states which gave him 40% of the electoral voters which won the election for him legally. Yes, the majority of southern soldiers weren’t slave owners, so how could it be about slavery? Because the ones that ran the south and represented the south in government are the slave owners. They recruited those dumb farm boys to go off and fight for their wallet, so those soldiers were indirectly fighting because of slavery, those rich plantation owners had everything to lose and if farm boys had to die then so be it. The civil war was about slavery.

A P The Confederates used to be the leading producers of cotton. They would make their exports straight through the UK, but the Union wanted their exports to go through them and place heavy taxes on the confederates, so they blocked direct trade from England and forced their exports to be taxed by the Union, which was devastating for the southern economy. 5 of the Southern states wanted to retort against the Union’s taxes and make them put an end to it, but the Union didn’t listen. The 5 states then formed the Confederate States of America and warned the Union that these devastating taxes can be an act of war. (which had every right to be because an action that brings harm to a country or part of a country is by law, an act of war.) Many more Southern states began to follow in their footsteps, and seceded from the Union. The Confederates warned them one last time to repeal the tax act and there would be no bloodshed, and the Union responded by basically saying: “I’d like to see you try.” And so the American Civil War began. The war was PARTLY about slavery, but mostly it was against these taxes. The Confederates May have begun the war, but the Union could have prevented this, and they did nothing because they thought the Confederates were weak and pathetic. So many people from both sides died, all because of greed.

In short terms, we - São Paulo - lost the war, but we celebrate it because it reminds us of our combative spirit, of people who fought for something, whether it was right or not, an it still plays a huge role in our regional culture. Also, many rebellions in the past - both by commoners, slaves among others - were repealed by the State, both in Brazil as well as in the rest of the American continent, yet no one says that black people celebrate lost while engaging in rebellions. Weird, isn't it?

A couple of points to make... First, the "confederate flag" was not the flag of the confederate states of america but rather the battle flag of the army of northern virginia. Second, the "confederate flag" was not flown during the reconstruction era. It was resurrected as a symbol by, of all groups, the Klan when they began opposing the civil rights movement in the late 50s.

@caman171
@caman171 4 жыл бұрын
the significance is "the proper interpretation of the constitution...."state" means "nation"...the USA was the equivalent of the european union now. states had the right to leave at any time. our original constitution was called "articles of CONFEDERATION" every state even had its own currency. jefferson davis was never tried for treason because the fed govt was afraid the supreme court would rule in his favor...which would mean secession was constitutional.....so a southerner could actually be against slavery and still fight for the south. robert e lee was opposed to slavery while grant owned slaves. 96% of southerners were poor who never owned slaves. trust me. no poor white man would ever fight and die for the rights of a rich slave owner, who used poor whites almost as much as they did slaves. thats where the term 'redneck" actually comes from. its what the rich white men called the poor white men, cause they worked bent over in the fields, with their neck getting sunburned. so when u have troops breakin in ur house, raping ur wives and daughters and stealing ur livestock, trust me youd fight them too. ever read about the mass desertions in the union army when the emancipation proclamation came out? have u ever read the entire thing? it did NOT free slaves in any territory controlled by the north
