Welcome everyone to Hermitcraft Season 9 with Cub. Today we continue exploring Decked Out including finding one of the last Easter Eggs on Level 3, Grian's Easter Egg (a.k.a. Gregg). Then we finish up Phase 6, see the Phase results, and then attempt to reach the mythical 4th layer of Decked Out, the Deepfrost for the first time.

Concerning the amount of stumbles: Tango has changed how the stumbles work again so it's more fair now (there are more now at the start but not a huge amount like in this first run). This should be seen in future episodes and runs!

I love how creepy and alien the Burning Dark is! It’s like your in the very heart of the dungeon that is alive. The birthplace and origin of all of the sculk. Easily one of my favorite builds I’ve ever seen! I’m gonna use it as inspiration for my nether hub…

Everyone? Pearl, Cub, Etho, and Gem were handling LVL3 just fine with the 3 wardens. Cub's deaths last phase came mostly on LVL2. Of the people who were regularly doing deadly only Hypno was struggling and it's because he kept eating close to wardens and hitting pressure plates.

It’s hilarious how overwhelmed Cub gets when he encounters anything new in Decked Out. The minute he doesn’t know where to go or hears or sees something he wasn’t expecting he’s like THAT’S IT. No kidding. Watched Tangos vod first, and you don't get the sounds as the player hears because he's remote watching from a bit too far away. Those lava trap clicks are both satisfying and super terrifying!

It's from The Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye DLC, and both the game and dlc are absolutely amazing. The name of the specific track is called Matrix World in the OST.

Honestly idk why everyone thought it was useless in the first place In roguelites I always go for the “get more options” upgrade early on to build out my gear/character better for the future

Etho will definitely want it now that his goal is to max out all cards so he can build out a new deck every run for a different strategy (e.g. ember heavy if he needs a specific card, treasure heavy if he needs more crowns for shards, or simply to adjust to changes Tango makes between phases).

@@jjwang7597I think the logic was that extra shop option only matter if you make it out and the card actively hurts your chances of a successful run. How accurate that trade-off was is debatable, but now that it has no downside, it's a no-brainer.

Watching Tango's stream I was wondering how you missed the ravager for the first deepfrost run, but seeing your perspective the only time it was visible was for like 2 frames at 14:12. And that was only part of its leg. Truly unfortunate. The next run definitely made up for it. Looking forward to more deepfrost runs!

The way you fall into the Burning Dark and it reveals it all was such a cool and dramatic way to enter the final level of DO. Tango did an amazing job with it, it has such an eerie vibe and the narrow corridors really adds to that too. You did so well going in blind!

If anyone's every played the DLC for the spacefairing indie game Outer Wilds you'll recognise the sound design and aesthetics of level 4. I doubt it's an intentional reference from Tango - just a coincidence that they happened to use the same stock sound effects - but that's quite cool to see as an admirer of both Outer Wilds and Hermitcraft.

I can't remember if it was you or hypno who just stopped and listened to the level noises and wondered how level 4's would sound, but oh my god the low pitched mechanical noises you hear when selecting it makes it sound like a massive machine being set up to lower you deep underground. Level 4 looks so hauntingly beautiful, and you can tell every inch of it was detailed to perfection by tango

Exploratory runs are gonna be costly though, and both Cub and Etho are starting out at a big disadvantage with only getting 8 shards each.

I think the exit is at the edge of that sculk tentacle where you fell before you died. I'm trying to imagine the layout of the black mines in relation to the burning dark and I could swear that the exit bubble column at level 3 should be around the place where that sculk tentacle leads. It's just my theory though.

One small suggestion for the book of lessons. The next time you drop down into level 4, if there's no warden where you land, you should take advantage of the no darkness and height to look for a possible path up. I know it's easier to sit here while paused, vs in the moment, but at 27:25, there's potentially 3 paths in the frame that might lead out, including one near where you land along the wall.

It MIGHT end up being tuned down but I don't think it needs to be. Players just need to adjust since this is how it was always meant to be, where Stumble gradually builds up clank rather than having almost no clank and 15+ clank block stockpiled until after you get your artifact then rapidly snowballing due to backloaded Stumbles.

The stumble playing instead of a beneficial card doubly hurts. I believe if it didn’t skip a card draw it would be a bit more balanced.

I don't think there's a way to go LVL4 and back without hitting max clank right now. A lot of cards got really nerfed with this change as well.@@liamengram6326

If you watch Tangos recent stream it's really not that bad... the biggest issue is the speed at which stumbles are added imo. If it were tamed down a touch it would be great.. Jevin made it down to level 4 with very little clank built up and his deck is trash compared to the top 5 players. At the end of the day stumbles being added in as they queue up instead of going to the back of the deck is 100% how Tango intended it to be all along... the Hermits will figure things out just fine and Tango will most likely retune stumbles speed of play.

@@SnyperMK2000JclL It's a similar issue to the Suit Up controversy. Suit Up's extra clank only procs when you hit shriekers...so don't hit shriekers. Same thing goes for the new Stumble change. If you want to mitigate the effects don't just run jump all willy nilly through the dungeon and set off a bunch of shriekers then wonder why your clank is so high and you haven't been able to build up any clank block. The number of times you see people hit the same shrieker 3+ times even when they aren't evading any danger is silly.

suit up is not 25%, it's actually 33% more clank (on average) as it could trigger itself. it's a 1/4 chance of only 1 extra clank, but a 1/1024 chance of 5 extra clank and a 1/1048576 chance of 10 extra clank.

Cube there is second entrance into level 4 that is the out to level 3. I am sure I saw in one of your later videos. In one of the rooms on middle level. You said there is the drop off for deep dark. You find that and it your way out.
