I'm really happy they put the chainsaw idea into charging the axe form in iceborne, I loved charge blade in world but you are right it just isn't as fun in mhgu

I learned CB in MHGen and while I understand that the weapon doesn't feel as smooth as MH4U or MHW, I really love using the Axe attacks, much more than spamming SAED. Looking forward to MHGU Charge Blade tbh!

Tbh, I'm right there with you, and would say that the weapon is more fun when you get the axe involved too. Like using the phial combo or switching to axe to knock a rathalos out of the sky.

You can use the Axe atacks in world If you want. I find It boring to Just Ultra and love the Axe atacks. But you can't charge your sword or guardpoint into super in gen. World at least has options. If they nerfed the Ultra in World it'd be Just a much more complete version of gen's CB. Half the weapon in Gen or GenU is just missing.

Guess what? Capcom probably grew tired of people spamming SAED in World. They decided in Iceborne, you're gonna be able to "charge" your axe and continuously dis out phial damage. Without having to end it with a SAED.

The charge blade is my main to go weapon, i tried different weapons but have returned to CB everytime but there has been a change the Great Sword is also one of my favs now. @@sazakrom106 Adept SnS with Round Force 2/3 is pretty good, you can use items out of your Rhody Run which gives it a ton of utility alone especially against flying wyverns if you can angle a Flash Bomb right. It's not the highest DPS weapon in the game, but it gives you so many options of how to get into an advantage state against the monster.

When I first picked up Charge Blade, one of the first things that I noticed was how fluid everything felt, something that I felt the Switch Axe lacked. The GPs just added to that with the repositioning potential and the counter attack capabilities of the weapon. Going into Gen with a GP heavy playstyle, even with the heads up prior from the demo and countless videos, it was a little hard to adjust at first. I will say that the Shield Thrust -> Ultra/Super wasn't really missed by me too much at all, same for the Ultra nerf (it went from being to the equivalent of a nuke to a firecracker. Using it is more of a punishment for not cancelling it), seeing as I actively avoided using the Ultra in most cases as the Double Swing -> Upswing combo was better unless I was waking something up. The GP changes were the hardest to get used to, seeing as it meant you weren't able to counter attack with a Super/Ultra anymore. The changes only really affected that aspect because I usually spent around half the hunt in Axe mode dishing out as much phial damage as possible. Bushido Style hels with as it sorta gives you the GP functionality and the evades make Axe mode so much safer. I like CB in Gen; as Herny said it's less forgiving in a lot of cases but when you go an entire hunt being untouchable using the new styles and using the new GPs correctly, it's great. To anyone going to GenU from World, I'd say stick with it. It'll be hard at first (especially if you're coming from World with an Ultra spam playstyle) but take it from someone who went from 4U -> Gen -> World. It's still fun as hell to use, just don't write it off too soon.

Thanks dude. I started in World and I actually avoid using Ultra in it cause it grew old and repetitive, apart from honestly sad cause you're making half of the moveset (Axe Mode) pointless. I use the Axe combos and usually went for Super in big punishes. Best Fun I've had in MH. Favorite weapon... ...but no sword charge? Dealing with the whole axe animation in GP? No slides for fluid repositioning? It just sounds like it's half the weapon. I'm going to follow your advice, but I can't see myself thinking of GenU CB any different than "it's half the weapon"... Even with all these Hunter arts and different styles. It's just not CB as I know It. Not the CB that I chose to main...

Ravemaster620 if you feel swaxe is not fluid you are playing it wrong. In gen I love playing swaxe and CB they feel like two halves of the same whole.

Ravemaster620 in guild style you can morph directly after the roundhouse swing using the axe and if you press R after a swipe to the right you will morph back into axe. They don’t tell you this in the game manuals. Just fiddle around with pressing R at different parts of combos. However I don’t see the CB being so smooth I always have to stop my combo and switch except in axe mode. Swaxe is super smooth and versatile but CB hits harder but is more clunky.

@@comradecameron3726 I know how the morphing works with SA, I've used it throughout 3U, 4U, Gen and World. Compare Gen SA to World and you'll notice the difference in fluidity. The point that I was getting at was I can morph between mode whenever I want to with CB, seeing as just about every single move can be morphed out of. SA doesn't allow you to do that, instead you have to use specific moves in order to morph between the two modes. Morphing with CB is simply R+X (Sword mode) or just R (Axe mode). If you have to stop your combos all the time to switch, you're doing something wrong.

Generally, I don't unload an ultra on the monster unless it's down, and I have sword mode charged to red energy (so that I can quickly re-charge the shield). Also, though you cannot get red shield charge from sword mode, you CAN use it to recharge a red shield (i.e. this doesn't downgrade it to yellow).

When I first started MHGU after MH4U, CB was definitely a learning curve. But once I got the understanding of Adept Guard, it actually is my favorite way to play, favoring heavy counters and reactive moves moreso than other versions. Valor CB is tons of fun for monsters you can be super aggressive and spam hits with, as well. It's not as smooth as 4U but I am having a great time with it.

U forgot to mention that in MHGU, u can equip "Load up" skill, that will allow u to charge red shield from 1 movement. U also can get earrings with that skill by completing all arenas on rank A.

I've put in 1200+ into World with 600 CB runs minimum. With World being my first game in the franchise, and me loving it so much, I bought a Switch specifically to play GU. I knew the old style was less forgiving, but I wasn't expecting how clunky CB felt to me comparitively. I know I should play around with it and get used to the style of GU, but I got lazy and just mained Brave GS, because it feels the most familiar to me, and that sheathing charge slash feels so damn good to land.

i'm a CB main on MHGU, i genuinely like how the new guard points work, i dig the fluidity of the "hyper armour" they provide. ^-^ What i'm not happy about is the lack of AED shortcut from shield thrust, it would have been very useful to leverage some shorter windows, and it wouldn't have been detrimental to axe mode. Keeping the shortcut would have been better than giving us that stupid yellow shield which is inarguably U-S-E-L-E-S-S

so when i'm playing charge blade in gen and genU, i found that the guard points were buffed. now blocking normally will ad the KO/element effect to the shield, or you can do the x+r guard point to morph into axe mode and punish a charging monsterwith a strong axe attack. back in 4u you had to use the risky guard points, in generations you just need a red shield to do what you did in 4 and more.

I know im late, but I just want to point something out... Alchemy CB has a different move than Striker, the sword charge attack doesnt need to be charged, which lets you not worry about timing it to get files. Just a little thing I noticed that made me prefer Alchemy over Striker.

The horrendous nerfs to CB in Generations was why I dropped that game after beating Nakarkos and a couple of Deviants. I'm pretty sure I spent like 800 hours playing MH4U, most of which were spent playing the Charge Blade. But the feel of the weapon in Generations was so terrible that I dropped the game very quickly (if I remember correctly, I only spent like 150 hours on it). I will never understand the director of MH Generations for his wahy of making the CB clunkier in order to nerf it. Thankfully, the addition of Valor in Generations Ultimate was a giant boon, not just for the Charge Blade, but for a lot of other weapons. I feel like Valor CB is the one that suits my love for MH4U and MHW's aggressive and mobile CB playstyle.

Beyond not being able to do the slide attack, having to switch to axe mode to charge shield, and GP not being like World's, the only thing that irks me about GenU's CB is that SAED or Ultra burst isn't evenly remotely viable as an option. I shouldn't have to feel bummed or punished that I couldn't get the input in correctly and use a move that isn't even worth it. I'm not favoring SAED spam, but it would've been nice if it was still alright to pull off once in a while. It's a move that requires decent timing and I'd like to use it satisfyingly as a reward from a stun or whatnot. I also miss Savage Axe mode from Iceborne, but the saw blade art does just nicely. I'll still prefer MHW/IB CB for what it brought, but GenU CB has been fun so far.

I came to World from XX, and found myself canceling the ultra, and know when to cancel it a lot easier than World CB mains. And it's really essential to know when to super or ultra with this weapon. While I do think SAED spam is strong and shit, but I keep seeing people spam it mindlessly and either kill the monster with the broken af damage or keep whiffing and get killed. Most of the G rank monster are aggressive as fuck, you probably won't have the time to do a single ultra anyways.

I have been maining charge blade ever since 4U -- been playing since Freedom Unite. I love how satisfying the rotation is on the weapon and playing Adept has made it even more so. I just started World (I know, I'm an oldhead) so its nice to know that it is really powerful in World. Before I would play with lance and SnS but now I can't leave the charge blade. It just feels like home.

They completely neutered the charge blade in MHGU. The pretty little explosion of the SAED OS just that pretty.... pretty useless. I also hat the permanent red shield. It gives the charge blade the ability til be more overpowered than it needs to be.

The CB in workd is way too easy to use. Irs really overpowerded. Combos into the ultraburst from shield mode, an overpowered burst, no loss if the shield charge after an ultra etc its jzst charge up let go repeat. You dobt need ro think about what you are doing, read the monster ir just evaluate when to do what. You charge follow up with the a x combo and thars it. The CB in gen requires way more thinking

Every CB main complains about CB being weak in XX, but XX is the only game so far where CB is properly balanced. Its like comparing Melee Fox to Smash 4 Fox. Also, XX requires the use of axe mode instead of just staying in sword mode at all times, which fits the concept of the CB much better.

Complaints about it being weaker aren't really something I see. The main complaint I see is towards the Guard Point changes and over fluidity of the weapon. They honestly could have balanced it better

You can make it weak all you want. Make the numbers Miserable. All the way down to horrible. But taking part of the weapon's smooth, fluid and aesthetic moveset away is not balancing in my book. There's no explanation for not adding Sword charge in GenU. No explanation to not being able to Guardpoint into Super, no explanation for calling "making the weapon lack half of it's moveset" be "good balancing".

I'm a charge blade main in 4u, then I played generations and changed to adept long sword cuz of obvious nerfs. Then I played xx on switch and played brave long sword cuz it's amazing. Then I played World and went straight back to chargeblade:) so in a way they made up for nerfing the charge blade with the long sword but I'm still sad I can't play it in gen and xx it's just not the same. Gen and gen ultimate was NOT made by the ryozo team but the secondary team so maybe that's why it got nerfed. Just my opinion. Good videos.
