I used to watch this every Monday after getting home from band practice, still remember watching the entire first season when it premiered. And then the writers’ strike happened... My friends and I were extremely disappointed, but we knew that the reason season two was cut short and rushed was because of that. It didn’t make us any less upset. I wish they’d bring back Heroes, even if it’s in a video game.

Plus they probably called out for her, she probably thought it was the killer trying to trick her so didn't say anything. And with the dead bodies and no answer figured she was either dead or taken so didn't want to disturb the crime scene looking to see if she was hiding. Just a show but could have had dogs on the way to look for her just didn't get there yet.

As Brain said, the Writer’s strike. It killed any coherence and caused several points of retcon. Was a shame. Heck Sylar was somewhat sympathetic as a villain cause he did what he did due to his power basically forcing a need to understand things, other people’s powers included, and not for some cruddy ‘rule the world’ reason. Matt here suddenly gaining a power that would make his job incredibly easy, but it’s not so easy to control. And at first it was a case he tried to still be a good person. He even prevented a crime before it happened by talking the person down.

I blame the fans for the fall in quality. Heroes started out as a ensemble drama about ordinary people with extraordinary abilities but fans kept criticizing character arcs and storylines because they thought they wanted a generic superhero show; and when the writers delivered then they tuned out.
