Streamed 5th May 2024. Grey Herons nesting at Stocker’s Lake, Herts, UK. Three eggs all hatched between March 9th and 11th but one chick perished on March 17th. A second one died overnight on May 3rd/4th. Meanwhile the third chick is now fully fledged but still around the nest.
Today the stream starts at 6.31am. The surviving chick is on the nest. So too, still, is the carcass of the chick which died overnight on May 3rd/4th.
Between 7.52.36 and 7.53 and then again at 7.54.46 an adult beak appears in close proximity to the camera. The lack of reaction from our chick suggests that the beak does not belong to one of its parents!
The chick stays on around the nest all morning until 11.05 when he flies away and out of camera shot, in the same direction as he did for the first time yesterday afternoon. He returns at 11.38.
