Matt Barnard , the new owner sees it and we all see it. I also didn’t like his huge square hole for a 1/4 wide wire. Put a quick box on it and face plate. That’s an easy place for bugs to come in and out of. Between the missing tile, the offset tile by 2” and the hole, it doesn’t leave much for a mirror change.

Love that tile and the finished look. Burning question was whether you had enough tile to have filled in the entire space?? Also my tidbit is that if your ceiling is textured, it may not be painted so do NOT get grout on the ceiling or the texture will wipe right off when you try to clean it up! Ask me how I know.

Hey Jeff, I'm loving this channel. I found it a few months ago, coincidentally right before I moved to a house that needed a fair bit of renos. I learned so much from your videos and was able to do lots of drywall work, painting, and some moderate plumbing and electrical work myself. If I had a suggestion for a video, it would be how to install a fiberglass tub and surround. There really isn't much on KZbin about that. The videos I found are either too short and gloss over everything, they're poor quality, or it's just a guy talking while holding the camera and not showing any actual work. Nothing out there gave me the confidence to do the job myself. I know fiberglass surrounds aren't as sexy as tile surrounds, but they're still a practical option for many home owners. Your videos are full of details and tips that matter when DIY folks encounter problems taking on new projects. Thanks again!

You might want to apply your grout a little dryer. You end up with small voids caused by air pockets due to your grout being to wet. As you spread your grout, you're pushing the moisture out of it, making it spread easier. The wetter the grout, the more air pockets you'll have.

Thank you for this video! You’re great at explaining things and I feel encouraged to do my own herringbone kitchen backsplash! Only question I have is about the grout. I like those herringbone backsplashes that look like there is no grout and the textured tile is stacked on top of each other and edges are uneven. Have you seen those? Is there spacers thinner than 1/16? Or do they really use no grout?
@fakenews4381
@fakenews4381 4 жыл бұрын
Use wedge spacers, the less you push them in, the tighter the joint, don't just but the tiles against each other though as the grout will have no gap to purchase into!

I always set out on the floor first..doing all my cuts ...then transfer that to the wall. Works everytime and you don't have adhesive skinning up whilst you're faffing about with the smaller cuts. I also stopped using synthetic materials as they fail to hold some tiles...Porcelain, Travertine, etc.

This video is great, but I was wondering, if you have to use subway tiles in a herringbone pattern for a backsplash and wall, do you have to care about the first pattern row to be levelled horizontally in any way? In other words, do you have to care about the countertop not being levelled? I’d like to do this in L shaped kitchen and there is almost 1/4 inch difference between both ends. You have a very good video on how to start a brick pattern with subway tiles from a countertop, but what about a Herringbone pattern. Thanks!
