I make this 🥧 pie. I use half regular milk and half evaporated milk. It makes the pie come together much better. Also, you can make coconut pie, just eliminate the chocolate. Delicious either way.

Same recipe my grandmother used, only the amounts are a little different. Her's uses 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of milk, half stick of butter. The rest is the same amounts. Baked pie crust 2 cups of sugar 3 heaping tablespoons of flour 3 heaping tablespoons of cocoa dash of salt 3 egg yolks 1/2 stick of butter 1 tsp Vanilla extract This fills a deep dish crust. I use 5 egg whites for thicker meringue

I have the same problem, Sun Dancer. I do have a healthy appetite. But I try not to make a large dessert unless I can share it with someone. If I can't, I try to eat only one slice daily or two thin slices. If it's something that can be frozen, that works out better. Part can be frozen for another time. It's the same with anything I cook. If I make a full meal, I have to eat it every day for a week if part can't be frozen. It's a juggling act when you no longer have family around full time to enjoy cooking for.

@@PreservingSweetness If your heart can stand it, I drink a 16 oz glass of water before each meal (helps with constipation); before each slice, ask yourself to drink 1 or 2 glasses of water (16 oz glass) before each. Helps to slow you down. I would love to make this chocolate pie since my mother made this. I'll have to get the mixer to be able to do the egg whites. I also have a problem with caffeine. Need to watch that. Well, bless you for the great recipes! I'll have to check more out.

Thanks, DJ! I do have a new kitchen! I've just bought my "retirement" home, I just don't have my furniture and stuff in it yet. Covid and illness in the family have delayed my plans for almost 2 years. But, for the time being, I'll be spending part of my time in South Louisiana and part in Southern Virginia. That's why I often say I don't have this or that with me, because the things I need are usually either in storage or a different kitchen. Merry Christmas!
