LET'S OPEN THIS WEDNESDAY WITH A TERRIFIC GUITAR LESSON. Hey Joe, which has become a rock standard and has been performed in many musical styles by hundreds of different artists, is one of my favorite Jimi Hendrix Experience tracks. His is a cover version. The earliest known commercial recording of the song is the late-1965 single by the Los Angeles garage band the Leaves; the band then re-recorded the track and released it in 1966 as a follow-up single which became a hit. James James, as usual, provides a terrific window to Jimi's wonderful playing.

A beautiful friend of mine called Tony Martin was responsible for Hey Joe reaching the Top Ten in the British charts. He used to hype records and persuade record shops to erm ‘exaggerate’ their chart returns. He knew Lambert, Stamp and Chas Chandler well and they took him to see Hendrix - whom he loved - and the rest is history. He used to drink in The Speakeasy & Scotch Of St James with various members of The Beatles & Stones - got on great with John Lennon - and was a very close friend from 94 to 98 when he suddenly died of a brain haemorrhage aged 64. He was an amazing guy and I loved him loads. I was shattered when he passed. Anyway - just thought I’d share that. In one of your previous channel vids you said the Hendrix Estate had blocked you from uploading his music - (which is pretty stupid when your vids are going to get more people into his music and thus make them more money 💰!!??) I take it you’re covering Hey Joe because he didn’t write it ? There’s lots of vids of ppl playing All Along The Watchtower - but rarely any other Hendrix music - for the same copyright reasons I guess ?? Cheers 🍻
