My old weed eater finally was replaced after many years. After replacing the spool the first time as soon as I press the button the line will retract back into the spool. I take it apart and feed line out and don't even get it back to the ground and its retracted. Not even a second of line and never touched anything. Could it be that its wound backwards? Never had this issue with previous weed eater

I would say that it doesn't hurt to try to wrap in the other direction. The direction of wrapping should be indicated on the spool. Also, consider leaving more line on the outside of the spool at the onset. If you only have 1-2cm sticking out, maybe it's inclined to retract back into the spool.

Im leaving enough that its getting hit by the cutter so I can't leave any more out. I used a black sharpie to mark how much was out and its definitely retracting and not breaking off. I miss my old weed eater with the two lines sticking out

Will this prevent the line from going back inside the trimmer head while using? I have a Ryobi electric trimmer and the line constantly does this. I have to stop every couple minutes to re-feed to string through that little eyelet hole.

I know the frustration! I think it could be 2 possibilities. First, perhaps the line is old and brittle and breaking easily, thus breaking farther back than normal. You can soak the old line in water to increase its flexibility. Second, maybe you’re getting too close to rocks or stumps. I try to start far away from a hard object I’m cutting around and then slowly move in toward it, thus I only cut ‘ever so close’ to the hard object and I try to not directly hit it. If you hit a rock close up, it could snap the line close to the edge of the trimmer. I hope this helps.

I do it like that but the line comes out as soon as I hit something hard

Why does my spool/string keeps getting short ?
@heyitsjosh Жыл бұрын
The string extends every stop/start, so if you're stopping and starting a lot, the string will get short quicker. If you just keep the unit running, the string should last longer.
