HF Predator 670 8 hour Break in Oil Change

Wanted to Video my first 8 hour service on my Harbor Freight Predator 670/22HP engine.
We do a full upgraded filter service with synthetic Mobil1 oil

Engine runs fine for a while, then shuts down but will start back up.here lately on a 1.5 hr job it will stop 3-4 times. I'm not sure if it's oil level or ignition switch (some times key won't make and I can tap ignition box to get it going.. any ideas. Getting old

First what are you running for an ignition? I run the Vegas car technician system just because it’s easy plug and play and very simple because at the time I did not have the workspace to make my own wiring harness plus there’s is great. I would absolutely check your oil level, very strong possibility that your low oil switch is going off because of the oil splashing around in the engine which is not touching the switch which will result in the engine shutting down. With my Vegas cards ignition wiring harness I have constant issues with the female spade connector on the starter constantly coming loose, I have a pair of needle nose pliers that I carry with meJust in case the spade connectors comes loose so I can pinch it and stick it back on the starter.

I just did my 8 hour break in oil change. Mine heals maybe 1.5/1.75 quarts and it was at the tip top of the dip stick. On level floor too. Did you put a full 2 quarts in?

I almost did, i filled mine up and let the Filter get full and then i check it again

I took back cover off ,main fuse for ignition was loose arcing and losing conection..I cleaned fuse terminal and plugged in tight. Hasn't stopped since

I love it, however there is a lot of small crap you may or may not have to change if you go this route. For example I had to change my gear ratio to 6:1 to get a lower RPM . The OEM carb is not the best, pain in the butt to maintain and even get right depending on your driving style, non matter how much you tune it, it only really likes to run 2000+ RPMS. My only other main complaint it how loud this engine is compared to my factory 9 hp Robin engine was, for cruising purposes in like a neighbor hood you will need a 6:1 gear to keep your rpms & engine noise down, I am looking at a making a custom header using a Walker tractor muffler to make it quite and stealth. (I'll make a video before and after when I do) So all of those are my major complaints about running this engine, I am running it in a 98 Ezgo ST Sport , my cart runs 39 mph on 22" wheels and has a crap load of torque as well. I do plan on doing some internal engine work like heavier springs, lifters & push rods so I don't have to worry about running over 4500 rpms . I only paid like $679 + warranty for mine, I know there over 30% now days but you could get one on sale if you wait. let me know if your looking for something more specific

@@keithellett4283 hey, thanks for the detailed info Keith! I did purchase a 670 motor, couple months ago. It was on sale.. I had a coupon ,Plus I opened a credit card grand total was around 650.oo. This is going in my max2 6-wheeler.. which won't be getting done anytime soon. Just finished making a frame for the motor. Self-contained cart, battery box, gas tank so I can start it up every month. It seems to run good.. however, the rubber cone shaped grommet that holds the dipstick in pulled itself away from the dip. Did you have any issues with the dipstick? Would love to see more videos on other changes that you're going to make, thanks again!

@@billmers3219 YES i have been trying to find a aftermarket replacement, so far nothing. I may try and fab up something with a better grommet . ill post a video if I can find one or make one.

Hey where did y’all see to change at 8 hours? My manual says to run it without a load for 3 hours to break it in then change the oil at 20 hours. Did I miss something?

My general rule of thumb is 8 hour then 25, 50,100, 150, 200, 300, 400 etc. I wouldn't follow the predator manual unless you need to know the spark plug gap or stuff like that. When I chnaged my oil at 25 hours its was very heavy with metal in the oil from the break in. Oil & filters are cheap, changing a motor isn't ideal

STP. S4069. EXTENDED LIFE is a good oil filter for the Predator 670cc. 22 HP. Engine.
