There's often very bad results when a time traveler runs into themselves. From the "flash space" comment, I believe they were basically always in contact with any ships in flash warp.

No you can't not in the original time line , what was will be this can't be changed but a separate time line would branch off

The person going back in time will come back to a different “line/version” of future. The people he knew (from the timeline he lwft) will remain in that timeline. This is the paradox. A time traveler cannot change the past of a current timeline. He can only create another timeline.
