TheRockgod23 And His HGV

Күн бұрын

Just giving an insight into a typical week working as an HGV Owner/Driver in The UK.
Lots and lots of talking just to give you an idea of what it's like doing what I do, whether that's working as a sub-contractor, for direct customers or finding loads on the online load board platforms.
Future videos will go into more detail regarding how to get started as an Owner/Driver.
Another channel to check out is:
‪@PetetheCourierDriver‬
Pete has a wealth of information regarding finding work online, his channel gives his advice and experience of sourcing work for his van and now his HGV as his business is growing.
If you check out his channel let him know I sent you.

Before any negative comments, I know this is a very long video (I made it), I know it's a boring video (I made it). It's just me talking, yes I repeat myself alot as it was filmed over a few days. It's not really a truck driving vlog, just me discussing how I work. If you don't want to get bored you can always switch off and go hate and troll people who will take the bait and get angry (I won't) or go and watch Die Hard. For everybody else, due to the length of the video feel free to dip in and out over the next few days at your leisure as watching it all in one go is a bit much ! Thankyou.

Excellent blog Rock god. Thoroughly enjoyed that insight into how you do things. As you say, everyone is different and what suits you may not suit others. Seems to be working for you and I am glad your first year has been better than expected. Although I am retired I look forward to further insights into your life in the world of transport. Good luck👍🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

That was fantastic. Really enjoyed watching that......It's so easy to forget what actually goes on in the background ie. my office give me lines and tell me to take a load from A to B but i don't have to worry about obtaining the job , pricing it etc, i don't worry about maintenance or fuel costs. Was really eye opening seeing the actual real aspects of haulage on a day to day basis. Thank you for posting this video.

Love this vlog boss just started following you and saw the vlog about your troubles in getting your own truck but this vlog is true to anyone who is self employed I am not a trucker but spent 20 years working for myself and although I was doing gardening etc the same principles apply and a similar channel to yours is actually an American chap whose channel is just trucking and his view is like yours which essentially is know your worth so he has a set amount per mile and bids accordingly so keep up the good work and please put out more of these vlogs if possible and good on ya for going on ya own although now I have gone the opposite and am now employed but next time u r in Blackpool let me know but keep it up boss and the company I work for is haven so they are defo worth looking at boss

Not sure if this helps, but. Class 1 earnings via a large UK post and parcel operation pays over £25.00/hr and 7.5 tonne pays over £15.00 with money in bank the week after work completed. Having been in business for over 30 years, business worries free and paid in 7 days makes it now the best work for stress free, happy home for family times.

Great watch rock god I'm doing my own maths to try an make this work for me and my potential customers to keep cost down. Question 1. Do you own your wagon or is it leased? Question 2 . Do you suggest rent/lease for starting out , an I guess cost on the jobs are done taking into account the overheads depending owning a wagon and leasing. I'm not expecting to know what you pay that's your business not mine cheers
@TheRockgod23
@TheRockgod23 2 жыл бұрын
The truck was bought through a finance company so when all the payments are made the truck will (legally) be mine and still worth a few quid. I did not want to rent/lease as I would never actually own anything and the payments last forever. Any costs are an investment in your business so keeping costs down is sometimes something of a false economy, eg buy a cheap truck , buy cheap tyres, buy cheap second hand tools etc may end up costing you more in the long run compared with spending a bit more on the vehicle and buying new equipment ? Alot of my customers put reliability, communication, trust and honesty top of the list, not how cheap the job is. I would never suggest/advise what you should do as we're all different and have different overheads. I can only give my opinion especially as I've not been doing it long enough.

It’s the undercutting in haulage what chops rates that’s how Stobarts expanded
@TheRockgod23
@TheRockgod23 2 жыл бұрын
I believe Stobarts (years ago) didn't make any profit with their trucks (broke even) but offered warehousing for customers which brought money in and in turn smaller hauliers with no warehousing just couldn't compete. I stand to be corrected but that is how they initially undercut other Transport companies ?

Hi - question for you please. If arguments sake your running costs are say £300 per day and you need say £250 wages how much on top or what percentage profit should you aim for as a reasonable amount? Thanks in advance
@TheRockgod23
@TheRockgod23 2 жыл бұрын
Everybody is different, some Owner/Drivers are happy once the running costs and wage are covered, others (like me) who look at it as a business aim for profits due to the extra work and hassle. As for what that is can vary every week depending on things like the cost of fuel. I don't have a particular target as profit can normally range between 'breaking even' to 30% ,it depends on how busy I am aswell. 'Swings and roundabouts'
@dublinreliefdriver807
@dublinreliefdriver807 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRockgod23 thanks for your detailed reply and perspective on it. Makes sense to me that you would make a profit otherwise what’s the point of the hassle as self managing.

Hi very interesting video was there a specific reason behind having rigid against artic
@TheRockgod23
@TheRockgod23 2 жыл бұрын
For the last 8 years as a freelance driver alot of my work was driving rigids, I was always busy doing all sorts of different work. As a result of working at these places (and getting contacts) I knew if these people needed extra vehicles they would need a rigid so before I made my decision to buy my truck I already had 4 customers lined up. It's not size that matters, it's how you use it !
