I live in a small north GA town that has dwindled in small town appeal as far as local family history where everyone knows each other. People from other areas have moved here, some for the good and some for the not so good. Atlanta influence and all its hoity-toity wordly mindsets have infiltrated and us locals don't go to town like we used to, especially at night because what we call the weirdo outsiders seem to have taken over and we don't want to be around it. Other than that, things seem to be normal up here. Our police blotters used to be the size of a playing card up until the early 2000's. Now they take up a whole page. If that's the case where I live, then the whole country isn't what it once was.

I have made it my goal for my wife and I to come to the RM Brooks store this spring. I can’t wait to try everything on the menu…haha. We are from VA and love history and old places like this. Thank you for highlighting them…we need more of these type places. We grew up with country stores all around us. Now they are all gone and replaced by Sheetz, Wawa and 7-Elevens…They are not the same….Thank you!

Thread cases, as you call 'em, we're used in the ole time general stores as women in those days sewed just about all their clothes. It was a rarity to find a woman who didn't sew. There were quilting parties in those days too. Bear in mind everybody worked & took care of themselves.

Had a neighbor, " gonna" have some frog legs. Went and caught some frogs. Prepped the legs, heated up the oil. Dropped the legs in and they startef kicking and hot oil was going every where. He learned later to cut the tendons before frying.

Frog legs are best cooked on a flat top with some butter and garlic. Sauté not fried.

The Gulf sign was given to RM Brooks in 1926 by Gulf and has been ever since so its not for sale but the stove might be, you can call the store at [phone] and ask Tiffany. This is John
