The one thing that stands out about Helene is who got out immediately with their chainsaws and 4X4's and cleared the roads. Who came in from all over the country to repair the roads and get the power back up. It was not the government and most were just regular people who saw a need.

Has there been a major natural disaster in history where the people didn't band together and work towards rebuilding? I lived through Hurricane Iniki in an airstream trailer. The community came together along with red cross and the national guard but by far the community had more heads and hands involved in the process. Every natural disaster I see reflects the same, in these type of hard times we forgo our differences and work together.

Folks from all over the country came to help. Hay and feed for the livestock from Ohio, workers from Texas, helicopters from Florida, supplies from across the United States and Canada. To everyone who donated funds thru Red Cross, churches, and Samaritans Purse, thank you. Financial support is still needed. Protect the people as temperatures drop and snow falls in the mountains. Write to your state and federal legislators to create a specific bill to get temporary housing and permanent infrastructure.... outside of FEMA...direct to the counties and towns, so the people have warm homes until they can rebuild.
