My guess is, Kennworth would be happy to upgrade the Steeringwheel. Once it get`s warmer better Loads should be available again, so there are better Times ahead. Hang in there.

Thanks Captain, great comparison of the T880 and the Mack. I like the T800W with the big hood and more importantly the very large radiator/cooling system. The T800 is a great driving truck. Never drove a T880 as I retired before KW started building them. Greatly appreciate your videos. Take care.

Love the sound of your car ! My first car was a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner that I purchased in 1974...it was well used by that time. LOL....., but still a great car. : ) 4 speed, 383, 4 barrel , posi rear end...I forgot the gear ratio though. The factory dual exhaust had the nicest sound to it. I still miss it to this day. We're waiting on rear fenders for our Heavy Haul Mack, with day cab, steerable lift axle, and Automatic.A few months ago I made a trip to Lake Whales to pick up the 55Ton Low Boy. She's a beaut that is 9 feet wide, a 25 foot deck, with covered rear wheels. We will be hauling an 40 Ton Excavator within close proximity, and with an occasional long haul to a neighboring State. Great commentary on statistics and what works with Heavy Hauling. As Always, Thanks and Happy Hauling!

Sergei, I appreciate your valuable input and opinion on how to spec a truck for heavy haul applications. However, I’m sad that you would want to go with an automatic truck. I’m biased, but I would never willingly spec a truck with an automatic transmission. Hell, even in my personal vehicles (like my Corolla, haha), I refuse to buy automatics and only buy manuals. I don’t do heavy haul, I do Flatbed and Step-Deck, so, like you mentioned in your video, I don’t have to shift as often when going up a hill and I’m heavy (not as heavy as you, though, lol). I probably only have to downshift once or twice, or three times max. I can only imagine how many times you shift when running hills and are heavy. But, still, I think you should stick with an 18-speed manual transmission. Briefly, I drove a 2016 Volvo 780 with a 12-speed automatic transmission and I hated that thing. It would shift when I didn’t want it to shift. Any slight hill, even if it’s for a couple of seconds, it would downshift. It had a manual mode, but I didn’t like it. Personally, I like to feel in control and feel more engaged when it’s a legitimate manual transmission. I then drove a 2016 Kenworth T680 with a 10-speed manual transmission and was much happier. But hey, that’s just my opinion, lol. At the end of the day, it’s what you prefer. Have you ever considered getting a Kenworth W900L or a Peterbilt 389? One day, if I’m still trucking then, I would like to buy a brand new Peterbilt 389 with all the bells and whistles, 18-speed manual transmission, 4-5 axles, doubled framed, 605hp 2050 torque engine, the works, lol.
@prisregil5 жыл бұрын
Should have been able to go in to manual on volvo's auto shifter. Have taken a volvo 4x8 with 15 tons of gravel on the bed and another 30+ tons with a trailer and tarmac roller up a 450-500m long, 10-15 degree sloped gravel road without the truck shifting down and holding 30kph. Once you get used to them the automatics are quite neat for jobs where you really need a hand free like in snow removal from roads. But to each their own and im not sure if could drive a truck with 18-speed anymore... Could when i took my truck driver test, and did some limited driving on some older trucks, But 9 years of almost only auto shifters and the occasional 8 speeders im not sure the gearbox would survive.

I have a mack dump truck with the Eaton ultrashift, I don't have as much experience with trucks as most of you but after driving it for a few months... I don't know how I can go back to my 10 speed manual anymore. Takes a while to get use to it but once you do it's alot more relaxing drive.

Question. How is the steerable lift axle working for you? I've been trying to figure if I should get a fixed axle or steerable. Any input will be appreciated.
@HHTV605 жыл бұрын
Self-steer pushers are the way to go, BUT my neighbor Quebec Canada wants to have 4 tires on the pusher, not 2. So, ideally try to get a steerable axel that can take 4 tires.

Automatic trucks always have problems in rain/ snow. However how u like ur 880? Compared to the T680 or pete 579?
@HHTV604 жыл бұрын
never drove a T680 or 579. can only compare vs Mack, Volvo, Freightliner Columbia, International 9400 -- these are the trucks I drove for long periods of time. The best feature of my T880 is the CAB and SLEEPER. I would never go back to the Mack's 56" flatroof!

Heavy Haul TV 9400? Thats what i have been driving. Problem free. Just feel its time to upgrade for a newer look truck. Working local in houston and thought i can get newer truck to take some of those loads going to north. I bet ya that 880 feels different than my 9400 climbing 68.

Sergei couldn't you change you existing manual to the 18 speed automatic if you choose to? I would imagine it could get expensive.
@ohiopower5 жыл бұрын
Trucks have to many electronics for a simple switch. The transmission might not even bolt up to the flywheel since everything is specifically made for a certain package. The ECU would also need flashed. And automatic transmission cooler would also have to be installed and all the associated piping and wiring that goes along with that.

many things on a new truck are very cheap when you spec it; but are super expensive to change once the truck rolls off the line and into your greedy hands ;) examples are: axle ratio, transmission, frame length, dual/single frame etc. etc. that's why 'home work' is super important when spec'ing a new truck. thx 4 watching'!

Сергей, а охлаждения АКПП грузовика хватает под грузом?
@HHTV605 жыл бұрын
Пока хватает. но Кенворт говорит что для грузов с общим весов больше 200 000 LB (gross weight) нужен больший радиатор. Я пока до этого уровня не дошел. Грузовика хватает. Если постоянно таскать gross weight of 200,000 LB and higher, то нужен Т800 с большим радиатором (KW T800W).

Привет дружище. Автомат конечно удобнее. Но итон 18й это плюс 20 000 US $ и при продаже лет через пять-шесть минус 20 000. И всё таки ручная коробка надёжнее. Особенно на больших нагрузках. Удачи 😀

@chandlermealey19624 жыл бұрын
Harman Singh with heavy hauling it really doesn’t matter. You’re low and slow. If you still “enjoy” shifting by all means get a manual but if you are worn out just go auto. A motor specced at 600 horsepower is going to shift just like a manual on an ultra shift.
