Exact same thing happened to my F-150 in Aug of 2023. We had a bad hail storm here in Lindsay Ontario. Mine looked like yours. The damage was $11,000. Mostly labour. They do what they call paintless dent repair. Carstar fixed it and you’d never know it happened. I have good insurance. No deductible and a rental was covered. It took a week and a half to reapair. Never costed me a dime. This was on a 4 year old F-150.

Good to know. I have another insurance thru the Chrysler dealer that covers dents and window chips. Used them three times already, but don’t know if they can fix the hail storm damage.

Definitely a complete write off. The problem is the resale value is terrible. Those are fiat pandas with a silly trail rated badge glued on. They’ll cash you out, but be sitting down when they tell you what you’ll get. Maybe it’ll work out and you can get a check less the scrap value and keep the vehicle. In Canada I have no idea.

it looks awful, but from what I've learned so far it's an easy but labor intensive repair. the bill would be close to CAD$15K, but it should be covered by the insurance, except my deductible. I'm still waiting to hear from my claim adjuster. A friend at work said my insurance broker got 9,000 claims like mine after that hail storm. If they process 100 claims a day, they'll only do 3,000 a month ;) so they might get to mine eventually ;)

In the US, there’s hail damage repair specialist. When there’s a hailstorm, they tend to flock to the area and do their magic. They actually do a pretty good job. You just find out who your insurance company approves. When it happened to mine, it hit a big area in the state so the insurance companies set up drive through tents for writing up the claim. They fly employees in from all over so they can process thousands of claims. They actually wrote me a check on the spot and told me if repairs cost more, they write me another check. If your vehicle in financed, they usually write a check in your name and finance company name. In my case, mine was paid for. Good luck sir. It sucks. I hope you have car rental insurance so you have wheels while it’s in the shop.

I don't see a write off there because of the current value of the Jeep. PDR will fix most of it and maybe hood replacement. Will be down for awhile though so no Uber/Lyft rides.

Sorry for your damage, same thing happened (just the roof) of my 3 week old BMW minor to your vehicle, plastic will be replaced, doubt the hood will be replaced, bumps will be filed in, sanded and repainted. However your loss will be in the trade in or resale value 🥲

Next time don't risk your integrity to avoid the inevitable. Looking by the damage inflicted to the car it must have fallen with pretty high terminal velocity. If you live in an area with trees available then park under them as the branch minimize the chance of an hard hail impact a certain degree.

the metal is just like clothing on this thing. the car drives great. if they can get rid of the dents, I don't have a problem keeping the JEEP for a few more years. The hail damage makes for an interesting conversation wtih my Uber/Lyft passengers ;)

As long as you have a place to plug in at home, lease an electric. Your fuel costs will drop radically and with the lease you won’t have to worry about resale value which admittedly is about as good as Chrysler era Merc’s. 100km a day city driving for DoorDash and Uber eats in a used leaf cost me 22 bucks in angry pixie power for all of July.

well, this JEEP brand new cost CAD$52,000 in July of 2023. If they decide to get me a replacement car with a similar value, it'd probably cost them at least CAD$40,000. There's no way the damage would cost 40K to fix. I'm thinking, 10K to 15K max..... So, it'd make no sense for the insurance company to write off the car. It's way cheaper for them to fix it, than to replace it.

There is a lien on the vehicle. He won’t recieve a dime. Anyway, keeping the money to pay off debt makes zero sense. Don’t forget to deduct the 5 or 6 grand he lost just driving the vehicle off the lot. Numerous factors will dictate how this goes down. Repairing the vehicle makes the most sense. What sucks is the amount he will have to pay on the deductible. I think I heard him say he has a 5000 dollar deductible. Ouch, that’s not good! Sorry pal and good luck.

Somebody told me insurance companies look at the cost of repairs versus the market value of a replacement car. My JEEP new one year ago cost CAD$50K, so I doubt it’d cost close to that to repair it.. my estimate is 10k plus another 5k cause it’s thru insurance, minus my 5K deductible. Speaking of the next vehicle… I want to get into something like a Chevy Tahoe, or Chevy Suburban, or GMC Yukon, just because they come with a V8, and offer multiple streams of revenue they UBER.

And much higher price for a large late model V8 and lower mileage as well as higher insurance and interest. Even though higher Uber money... do the math and consider the payback time. You may want to stick to around what you paid for the jeep even with the lower Uber revenue or you may end up driving for a long time to make up the difference.

You pay taxes like a self-employed. You also have to track the sales tax you receive and forward it to the government.

Who asked you for your Social Insurance Number? All you need is to get a Business Number from CRA and HST/GST number to go with it. You only supply your SIN to an employer. Driving Uber or Lyft means self-employment.
