It's a gorgeous little pistol and shoots very well. I don't shoot it as much in this second video with it as I did in the first video with it, but it is a really sweet one to shoot.

In the Army Military Police for 6 years Colt .45 1911 was my duty weapon. This P238 is so we'll made and 1911 like. Got one for my wife this month. She can rack it and it fits her hand nice. Thank you Hickock 45 for informative reviews. You set the standard.

Of course. I have fired over 500 rounds through it, mostly on video. You'll get my impressions of it and how it shoots for me, some of it pretty soon. I just had it for two days, but we tried to wring it out and get a good notion of how it works and what I think of the gun and cartridge. With what I spent on ammo, I could have bought a new Glock. :-)

I'm in market for Sig 238 to replace my Kahr p380 due to recent real bad experience with it. This is a very good, perfect & useful video cause your comparison past and future gun for me. My last bad experience with Kahr, I'm not sure that I would ever trust the guns anymore. This is the second Kahr that went bad on me. Just for your info, the other Kahr was the .40SW. It just kept jamming in spite it has been sent to the factory for repair. Thank your very much. I'm 73 years old and I have been around many different pistols before and never I had this bad experience with a gun.

I'm new to the whole gun community. I really love your channel Hickok because you break down the guns in terms thats are easily understandable. Most people talk all these technical terms without explaining what it means or what it's for. It gets confusing for us beginners. Very informative videos and I love them. I also love the shooting parts too. Keep it up!!!

Man, Hickok's reviews are the absolute best available. Regarding the thumb safety, I actually prefer it to the other guns with the longer trigger to serve as the safety. My military experience has ingrained taking it off safety to fire to the point that now, when shooting guns without safeties, I feel like I'm forgetting something as I'm getting ready to shoot. It's so much easier and comforting for me to take the safety off as I'm raising it, almost as if the clicking sound of the safety coming off is the switch that says "game on, time to shoot". I don't even know I'm doing it, it takes no longer than unholstering the gun like normal. It's not even an extra step, it's just part of the "draw" process. If people are wanting this gun but are worried about the safety, just keep practicing raising it while also taking the safety off in the same motion. It's easy to get into the groove. My only thing about this gun is when it's at home, I prefer to have the hammer down so IF my daughter tried to get ahold of it, it couldn't go off unless she had the sense to pull the hammer back, take the safety off, then shoot it. That's more of a storage issue though. For carry, it's no problem to carry with the safety.
@bretmelton71166 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with all of that.

Same. Former military and I prefer a safety for constant fear of ND. A safety makes me feel comfortable having one in the chamber at all times. I've always been able to get the safety off as I raise it to shoot.

The 938 is small, accurate and easy to conceal. Plus it has a little more power than the 238. You can not go wrong with either. My daughter can easily handle the 938 so if you are thinking about one for your lady, do not be afraid of it. If my Sig 229 was easier to conceal I would carry it all the time, but it isn't. It is my fall winter carry. The 938 is my summer carry.

Just bought a P238 and am impressed with it. As demonstrated here, it's a short range weapon with a sight radius of only about 3-3/4 inches. Compare that to a full size M1911A1 that has a 6-1/4 inch sight radius (1-2/3X longer). More heft than a .32 ACP and not as much sharp kick as 9mm parabellum. I'd never fired a handgun this small in physical size or chambered round. It was an interesting first day with it on a range as its sight radius limitations became immediately evident. I need to put more rounds through it at 25 meters to improve aiming precision. All that said, it feels good in my hand with the 6-round mags as my little finger wraps up under the magazine very naturally. I'm accustomed to using a M1911A1 .45 ACP, so cocked and locked carry isn't a problem. I agree though that doing so requires a holster that covers the trigger guard and trigger completely. The safety is stiff enough on its detent that it should never accidentally get moved from safe to fire in normal use, and a half-way decent pocket or waistband holster.

I own a p238! Great little gun but with one very little minor problem. After 200 rounds the grip screws fell out. Got some new screws and applied a dab of clear nail polish to each screw per sigs recomendation to keep the screws in place. Blue loktite will work also. Hope this will help other people, from what i understand this is a common problem! Also, sig replaced the screws free a charge!

I purchased the first P238 for my wife as she loved the ease in racking this gun it also had a great laser, easy to use and keep concealed. She actually shoots without the laser quite often and is able to get groupings of 4 in spreads for someone who has never shot more than 500 rounds in her entire life, that speaks to the capability of this gun.

After I got a chance to put my 21A .25 ACP Beretta to the test, it surprised me. I shot into the pond at a leaf floating and hit very close. This was about a 50+ yard shot, deadly accurate for a pocket pistol. Two magazine loads at 18 rounds fired, all were on target. I prefer the external hammer and double action configuration. I carry chamber loaded with thumb safety on, hammer half cocked.

What's interesting about the Sig P238 is that there are at least six or seven variations. While most of them are identical except for colors, one of them has a steel frame instead of aluminum. It adds some five ounces to the gun, which should tame recoil a bit. As always, great video, Hickock45.

I like the .380. It depends on how I dress when I carry it. I use the Taurus PT 738. I happen to like the strikers fire. It's very accurate up to 25 yards. Can be accurate at 50 yards. That's time at that range. Most gun fights are much closer than 25 yards. I practice twice a month with all my pistols to stay good. I think that's the key, is to practice. Thanks for the good review and video. To quote you," life is good..."

I use the OEM holster with my P238. Conceals well under just a shirt during warm weather, disappears under light jacket (autumn). Stays secure yet draws easily. Few extra ounces help reduce recoil combined with Sig sights improves odds you'll hit intended target. Kahr P380 shows list over $700 so I would think the CW380 or CT380 be preferable if buyers want alternative to P238's $500-600. LCP must be in here just because Ruger sold a few tons of 'em. Light weight, long pull, poor sights, small grip area all bad attributes for accuracy. LCP II supposedly a big improvement. For cheap small carry the PT738 (TCP) was much better than LCP (better trigger, last round slide open) but that too has been replaced by the Spectrum. SOOOO........ go ahead and splurge get yourself a P238. You deserve it. Satisfaction lasts a lot longer than sting from acquisition cost. I prefer the rubber grips & 7 round magazine setup.

I own two of these guns on Hickock's table, the Kahr and the P238. Bought the Kahr 1st ran a lot of ammo thru it. It's a great gun, a little finicky on ammo brands. Decided I didn't like the trigger on it. Went back to my research and ended up with the P238 and I absolutely love love love everything about this gun. I did have to get used to seeing the hammer back on it. Only problem I had was rear night sights were dead, on it. Sig did a great job of getting it fixed right. I was only without the gun for about five days. I use a kydex pocket holster for both guns. I would highly recommend the P238.

The Sig is a great firearm but it does not have a back strap (or grip) safety like a 1911 so I would not suggest carrying it (or any single action single safety)in your back pocket, tight jeans or setting down can turn the safety off. I mention this for the new people (and the term pocket pistol) because I see a lot of people fishing with a pistol in their back pocket setting on rocks on the side of the river. Hickok did a great job covering this I just wanted to give an example. Great video.

alfred vozzella I had a karh p380. I had nothing but problems with it past the break in period. Failure to feed issues constantly. It did a little better with round tip lead rounds but still jammed up a lot. But most people want a defense round while carrying a 380. I got the pm9. This gun has run all sorts of ammo defense and regular rounds. Over 5000 rounds never one malfunction. What I have noticed is the 9mm round is pointy and sits higher up on the feeding ramp. The pm 9 came out first then the 380. It seams they took the 9mm model and made the 380 model without considering adjustment necessary to make the 380 reliable like the 9. The shape of the 380 is more round and makes it sit lower on the feeding ramp. They need to adjust the design so the round points slightly more vertically and sits higher up on the feeds ramp. It’s a shame because it has such a great potential to be a great fun.

While I also have 1911's and am familiar with their battery of arms, I don't know if I want one cocked and locked in my back pocket. I also fear that when I needed it most I'd pull the trigger to find the safety still on. The Kahr is a tight gun and can be a little testy for the first 500 rounds, but once broken in is 100%.

I own a P238 Nitron. It is THE smoothest shooting .380 I've ever handled, period. There are lighter .380s, but they don't shoot as well. Colt, Kimber, and even Wilson Combat are seriously jumping all over the P238's coattails right now. Because it is basically a miniature 1911 and because it has taken the pocket-gun market by storm, they're all releasing (or in Colt's case, rereleasing) pocket-sized 1911s in .380.

Hey, I have the sigp238, and I bought it after I shot the ruger lcp, ruger lc9, glock 26. Obviously for the glock 26 and lcp (9mm) the recoil is noticeable. Yet the pistols are significantly bulkier than the ruger lcp and sig p238. Amazingly, I got the sig p238 and shot the target, and wherever I put my eye, the bullet when straight through it,even single hand Plus, the single action trigger, makes shoting better IMO. I live in miami fl,and clothes are loose. I carry OWB, and it is unnoticeable.

If I were to buy a .380 auto gun I would buy the Sig P238! Only because with such a small gun I find the single action trigger to be a ton easier to shoot accurately! I personally am waiting for the Sig P239 the 9mm version of the P238 hopefully it's still very skinny because the 9mm cartridge is just as skinny as the .380 and just a bit longer and taller! It all depends on your holster. If you get a kydex holster it can cover your safety completely. Also you can carry it cocked with the safety on and the hammer down.

I have the P238 Equinox and it's one bad ass 380. The 380 with todays ammo can get 9mm ballistics after all it's the same bullet just in a shorter case.

Not sure what hickok uses, but I've found the hardiest stuff for painting sights is vehicle touch-up paint, I've got a little bottle of mopar white that I keep around for that reason, couple years on my pocket pistol and it's just as strong as the day I painted it

I dont appreciate Sig guns usually but the P238 is a beauty of a pocket gun.

The Sig finish is pretty awesome.

The cocked and locked position "appears" to be more susceptible to an accidental discharge, I guess because you see the hammer in position as opposed to other guns. Ive never had a 1911 style gun. Do you have a feeling either way from a purely mechanical standpoint? as I know that safety is ultimately up to the user. Thanks for all the great videos!
