I remember my brother-in-law wanted to shoot my Model 29 44 Magnum. I was shooting one handed and was trying to teach him how to. But he couldn't hit the targets so he wanted to shoot two hands. I showed him how to take his right hand to hold the grip and push forward and use his left hand to hold and pull back and he tried it but still what getting on the bullseye. So the next thing I saw him doing was holding the gun with his right hand and take his left hand and wrapping it around the cylinder and I said no no no no! Keep your hand away from the end of the cylinder and so he held his hand back and shot a round or two but he still wasn't on target well needless to say I wasn't watching close enough I mean he was 25 years old, but he eventually wrapped his hand back around the cylinder with his thumb right where the cylinder meets the barrel and when he pulled the trigger he started screaming and crying like a baby. The blast between the cylinder and Barrel split his thumb halfway between the nail and all the way to the end. Needless to say he never shot my 44 magnum again!

My cousin was a tank commander back in the late 70s and 80s. He was in Germany and was part of one of the first crews to get the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. He was accustomed to being near tanks when they fired and at a tank demonstration after his discharge from active duty in 1990, he went to a tank demonstration in the UK. He knew many of the guys that did the restoration because they sometimes consulted him on questions. His wife was videotaping the demonstration of a newly restored Panzer IV with a muzzle brake on its 88 gun. He was standing a little bit forward of the turret on the right side of the tank about maybe 90 to 100 feet away and it just didn’t enter his mind that he might want to back up some. When the gun was fired, he got a blast of small rocks, hot air with maybe some still unburned powder, and a nice concussion. His wife asked if he was OK and he just walked back to her somewhat cussing with a pocked cheek, a ringing in his ear, a coating of dust, and his recently grown hair blown to the right side of his head. 😂 EDIT: Actually, maybe it wasn’t the 88 on that tank. I think maybe only the Tigers mounted an 88 except for tanks modified to become tank killers. I think the JagdPanther may have mounted an 88.

Yeah the IV has a nice 75mm. If it was a long-barrel, it was very high velocity, especially compared to other 75's of the time. Good story man!

Wow this is SICK dude NOBODY does stuff like this...that was fkn AMAZING knowledge/experience dropped, for free, which I'm sure has literally injured thousands of people in the past. You are the #1 firearms instructor on planet earth as far as I'm concerned. NOBODY teaches that, they all just focus on the target, whats beyond the target (not NEXT to the weapon itself!) or the weapon itself...never the fallout to your wife or kid who may be standing right next to you while you fire at an intruder or at the range... I wish I could upvote this vid a thousand times. THANK YOU @Hickok45 for all that you do for the firearms enthusiast community. I wrapped my finger around a 22 revolver. I was shooting the semi-auto all day, then we loaded my buddies revolver and I wrapped my fingers around and shot. It hurt and I had fragments buried in my fingers. I thought it was just burnt tissue until it didn't go away and I had to take a needle to dig out the shards. Glad it was just a .22, but I Wish I would have watched this first!

Been there, and done that (45 years ago.). The wounds healed decades ago but the memory still makes me wince. I had been shooting auto-loading pistols exclusively for a couple of years when I decided to bring my Ruger Speed Six .357, which had been my main carry gun, on a camping trip and neglected to alter my grip. After that, I adopted a grip that was suitable for revolvers and auto-loaders. There are certain mistakes that anyone might make once but only a fool would do more than once.
@rameylewis77304 жыл бұрын
i've always liked revolvers and my first duty weapon was a revolver with two speed loaders. I shot it for years and never had any problems. It was always considered one of the best guns for battle because a person couldn't screw things up by being nervous. You can press the revolver into someone and it will still shoot unlike semi autos that fail to cycle. Many of us used them as back up guns. Interesting video. Thanks

I'm not what I'd call knowledgeable on firearms other than having hunted moose and caribou with a bolt-action 30-06 or an 8mm Lebel around Lake Susitna, Alaska many decades ago. I was aware that revolvers could spit some quantity of stuff sideways, and to keep your body parts out of the way. But now that I've given away my hunting gear to younger folk, and my gun ownership is down to just a little 5-shot .38 Special revolver for personal protection, I very much appreciate this dramatic demonstration! Thank you, Sir! Oh, and to the guy who said, "I doubt ur 75 and on KZbin," I also am 75 and here I am, and I'm even able and willing to spell words out even at the grueling effort of making a few extra keystrokes , , ,

I opened a Roanoke Virginia phone book to the middle, and laid it over the top of my S&W .460 revolver like the roof on a barn. Pulled the trigger, and covered the front porch, yard, car, deck, myself, and my dog, in cheap confetti on the first round. the only thing that remained of the phone book was the 2" wide spine that was a ragged inch or so deep. The dog hated me, my girlfriend hated me, I spent two hours raking the yard and sweeping the deck, and I was glad to be wearing my safety glasses. Don't try this at home, and listen to Hickock45: The cylinder gap of ANY revolver is not a good place to have your soft parts when shooting.
